Tokura influence
« on: Jun 23, 2013, 09:33: PM »
After Tokura's victory in Italy, 2012, I have noticed that a lot of freestylers have started to include acrobatics into their daily routines. This became quite obvious when top freestylers in the F3WT competition (both London and Dubai) started pulling off backflips, handstands etc. during their battles. Do you think Tokura has made an influence on freestylers to start to include and practise acrobatics?

I definitely think Tokura had an impact on acrobatic freestyling, but maybe more just the backflip thing (which I btw think is a little overused.. personally I don't like it :) ) cuz I think acrobatics were becoming more popular even before Tokura's victory.

I think acrobatics were introduced into freestyle long before Tokura started doing them.  I think he was inspired by earlier freestylers such as Beto. Also, there have been many freestylers that have cross trained in other types of athletics and combined the skill sets. Acrobatics are just one of the types that work best.

I'd actually say Abbas may be the best at acrobatic freestyle at the moment. He's doing the highest level of acrobatics while freestyling in my opinion.

If you don't agree, watch this.
