Google Glasses
« on: Apr 06, 2012, 07:29: PM »
Have you seen or heard anything about these Google Glasses project yet? These glasses could enhance/invade/evolve our culture.  :wtf:

I could imagine looking at my fridge at home and then when I'm at the grocery store and looking at an item the glasses would show me how much of that item I have at home. Or when you're walking through the store discounts & ads would show up and arrows would lead you to the item. If it was laid out like that the marketers could bait customers to make impulse buys like never before.

The effect of this on sports could change the way we play and move as well. If a player was wearing these during a game they could measure the speed, distance, acceleration, odds - all in real time - and the player would have a slew of information to potentially draw from and make for faster and more advanced games.

The possibilities are crazy to think about, lots of pros & lots of cons. Unfortunately I feel the amount of privacy you would give away by virtually offering a live POV of what you are doing at all times to any hacker/government agency would prevent a lot of people from getting this.

Although I think if I was able to see/hear relevant information and then recall it flawlessly and assemble it through the use of these glasses it would allow my mind to focus on creating & connecting life's puzzling pieces and forming cohesive ideas on a much larger and focused scale.

What do you think? What would you like to see them used for? Other than porn. How else could it evolve our society? Would it be useful in sports? Could the glasses be used on other animals to teach them to perform tasks?

Project Glass: One day...

Hello Stas.  Nice to see you again man.  How's life?

I was reading about this today.  Apple could really suffer if this becomes a hit since this would make everything the iPad and iPhone do cooler and easier.  Except you'd be doing a lot of talking to yourself.  Now imaging if it could read your mind somehow so you don't have to speak into it.

As far as sports are concerned, I don't think anyone should mess with the current system.  It's about talent.  Reading the game is part of the ability and this would interfere with it.  However, I do think new sports could be created because of this.  It's about time a new major sport came about.

in my opinion, products preventing humans from thinking by themselves do not help our society. But since you can make a lot of money out of the lazyness and dumbness of people, i think products like this are very likely to be realised.

Now imaging if it could read your mind somehow so you don't have to speak into it.

it will take many years already to get this product working like it's supposed to according to this video.

Apart from that, i imagine poping up information all the time would be very distracing in sports, and in football you have to make important decisions very quickly, there is no time to read or listen to information. It might be useful for the referee tough, to make offside decisions etc.

When you say prevent humans from thinking, are you talking about reminders, calenders, etc?

I don't think that's a big deal.  That's kinda like people not knowing anyone's phone number anymore.  We used to know the phone numbers of people close to us, but since cell phones came around we no longer need to.  Just click on you contact name.  It doesn't make us more stupid, it's just more convenient.  Same thing with math... no need to memorize all kinds of crap... just type it in.

I think we can use our knowledge and memory for more elaborate thinking, not time wasting crap.  Just my $0.02.

I don't think they would allow them in sports. I know in professional golf you aren't allowed to carry around a map of the course. It would make it plain unfair and it would take some of the skill away from it.

Yeah, I agree with that but I was talking about creating a new sport.  It's about time we create something new that incorporates new technology.
