1440 x 1080 or 1920 x 1080
« on: Apr 25, 2011, 07:58: AM »
Ok I'm a complete noob when it comes to cameras but i have this camera: Sony HDR-XR200VE

I have always recorded my videos with the standard setting of 1440 x 1080
Now i found out that this isnt Full HD and i have the option to switch the settings to 1920 x 1080.

My question is: will i achieve better quality in my videos with these settings?

Theoretically it should be better, if you render it also 1920x1080. :)

I think it has something to do with the pixel aspect ratio. Not sure about this, but I think when you record at 1080x1440 the pixel aspect ratio is 1,3 and when you record in 1080x1920 the pixel aspect ratio is 1,0. I dont think there is a difference in terms of video quality.
Just make sure you render your videos from you video editing software in the same resolution and pixel aspect ratio you recorded at.
Hope that helped :D

par doesn't affect quality at all, it tells you the shape of the pixel, 1,3 ratio means 1pxl is with 1pxl height and 1,3pxl width. 1,3 ratio is widescreen.
