Title: Poor Messi - Injured Again
Post by: Adi on Mar 06, 2008, 05:55: AM
What does everyone think about Messi's re-occurring injury? He has torn his thigh muscle once again. The same injury kept him out for 3 months last year. They say he'll be out for 6 weeks now.

Apparently, the medical staff got rushed by people wanting results from the team, so they ended up playing him even though they knew he wasn't 100%. He was supposed to be fully rested over the weekend but ended up being thrown in late when Barca was losing.

To be honest, I'm really worried for Messi. I hate seeing promising players so injury prone. I know Barcelona needs the results, and Messi plays a big part in that goal, but you have to consider the player's future at some point. He's only 20, so you have plenty of years left for him. If he continues getting the same injuries, he will soon lose his pace, quickness, and maybe his confidence.

Sebastian Deisler is a perfect example. I know most players don't retire like him, but his long stretching sequence of serious knee injuries and personal life dilemmas led to depression. He was finally fed up with injuries and everything that came with it, and retired at a young age.

I know knee injuries are more serious than Messi's injuries, but there are still comparisons. I hope Messi let's his thigh fully recover. When the kid is at 100%, hell even 75%, he's killing opponents by himself.

The only thing that can stop Messi from becoming a legend, or one of the best 3 players over the next 10 years, is if he continues to get out of rhythm because of serious injuries. Let's hope that's not the case.

I seen him crying as he walked into the tunnel during the Celtic game, I just laughed.

Too bad. Now Messis injury will prevent him from showing how much better than Drogba he is.

This exactly shows that he's their best and most valuable player. Without him, they are nowhere near as good. They have gone on streaks without every other player and nobody's absence has had as much of a negative impact on the team as Messi's. Even when Eto was out for a long time, they did just fine.

Damn!  What kind of pussy tears a muscle and then sheds a few tears as he walks on it?!?

I'm guessing there's a hint of sarcasm behind your comment.

At least I hope so. Otherwise, I don't understand why people don't see the love for the game that's inside of this kid. It's not the pain of the injury that's making him cry, it's the fact that it's another long-lay off from the game.

That was sarcasm Adi. I do not see anything wrong with crying. I remember when Gallas cried after the 2-2 draw with Birmingham. These are just passionate players. I do not think that anyone talking bad about them has ever seriously played or enjoyed playing soccer. I've cried before

Anyone got any news on the status of his recovery?

Barcelona could use him to finish off the season. Better not rush him again though.
