We just played FC Dallas, a professional MLS team, and lost 4-0. They actually brought out most of their first-team and we got to play in their stadium. Here's a video from Youtube. I wasn't in any of those highlights. Silly mistake by the keeper in the beginning.
-
Saw that it was Anthony Wallace and Dax McCarthy in the center with Toja coming on later. Must have been an experience.
-
McCarthy was running all over the place. Damn good player.
I played against Toja for about 10 minutes before our center back hurt his knee. I think he has a knee bruise.
-
there was quite a few 'pea-rollers' lol, where they scuffed it along the ground, the first goal was a silly mistake lol. s'cool you got to play them though!
-
goalie :cursing:

Awesome mate, that must have been cool. I think TFC lost by more. ;)

Did you play well?
-
Wow you get to paly MLS teams as a college, thats awsome cos im hoping to go over and play college football at Berkley after i've finished my A-levels here.
It looks like it was a great experience playing against actualy professionals  could you tell the difference in ability whilst you were playing, or was it not so obvious? or was there none?
-
Berkeley is a great school. The city is, well, different.
-
ELITE, I played for about 30 minutes. I did quite well after making a bad first pass to start things off when I came on.
VG, there is definitely a difference in ability. Some players handled the game better than others but overall the difference was easy to see. I suppose if one of us was to play on their team against our college team, they would fit in OK. But having all of us play against a professional side showed some of our weaknesses.
It's just like all other different levels of soccer. When you play high school or club and move up to college, the game is at another level of speed and strength. It's the same when moving from college to the pros.
-
cool. what an experience. if must feel good to lose to a pro side only 4-0. i would brag about it. jkz
you goal keeper is shit our school goal keeper never mad a mistake like that. but he must of have been nervous or something

Has anyone experienced it first hand? because I can't really make this judgement without experiencing it, but from what Ive seen on tv etc, American 'soccer' is a much poorer quality than English (ball control, passing, shooting technique), after all it is our game that almost everyone loves. footballs a game most americans take the piss out of from what Ive seen.
-
As a general rule, people who suck don't get paid to play.

We have had over 10 English guys come over here to play on our team. Most have played at some professional level over there, and they say that the level over here is much better than they anticipated. They think the players over here are pretty damn good.
Don't just look at the stereotypes. Yes, the Premiership is of higher quality than the MLS, but the level of the younger players here is almost as good as it is over there, if not better in some areas. It's just that there are not many places to play after you turn a certain age here. Just look at the youth teams that come over here from Europe. Madrid, Man U, and many others have come and lost to our local teams. Then you have Chelsea and other first team Premiership sides come here over the summer and tie or lose to MLS teams. I'm not trying to say we are better, but the quality is better than you think. It's just not as attractive to watch. I guess part of that would also depend on whether you know the players in MLS. When you know the players, it's much better.
-
Ok fair enough, but its the same here, the competition here is high, there are academies yeah, but getting scouted is really hard as all the premiership teams now go abroad to get players from south america and other places, so there are less and less scouts coming to watch youth games on saturdays and sundays now :(
And im sure you're right and there are a lot of very good players in America, but from what Ive seen, including those videos mr asjkjsk; posted, there is some really good stuff there, but they dont seem to have the flare ore technique as premiership and stuff, quite a few shots are scuffed and bounce/roll along the ground.
-
Yeah, you are right about the technique and flair... it isn't quite as great over here.

ADI GUESS WHAT?
My highschool team will face Toronto FC at BMO field. It's only for the first team though, and I'm in grade 9(lowest grade) so I have a very difficult chance of making the team since it's varsity, meaning it's the whole school. There's a reserve team, so I'm hoping I can atleast make that, and then next year I can go to the first team. ;)

The Academy team?
-
Meh, I wrote that a bit confusing. When I say "first team" and "reserve team" that applies to my school teams.
And yes, we're facing the academy team.
-
I knew that.
Nevermind...
Are they paying for their players to play?
-
Not sure man, we didn't really get into a lot of detail.. I wish we did though.
-
http://web.mlsnet.com/t280/youth/academy/
apparently it's fully funded
-
It could be that, or it could be the first team, or even the reserves, who knows?
And yes, we're facing the academy team.
I was mistaken.
-
That's pretty cool Borg. I'm sure their academy team will be pretty damn good.
-
very kool playing against the mls team, but your goal keeper is horrible man,you guys should do some medicine ball training with him so he isnt scared to dive right in......he looked very scared and timid even when he could see the ball clearly...and he got faked out from way outside of the box...jeez that was bad...the shot floated in thats how slow it was going, maybe he was having a very nervous day,but thats just uncalled for as a goalie...he must have been kicking himself aftwards... Other than that very kool highlight video and very nice opportunity to play with an mls team.
-
I had my second tryout today and I was way better, I got the ball a lot more and made some better through-balls. The coach asked for my last name, and he asked a lot of the better players, so that could be something? I'm hoping anyway. They're making cuts on Tuesday for the last and final tryout.
-
Guess what boys? I made the reserve team! That's pretty good for me considering the team is a varsity team. Meaning I'm playing with 18 and 19 year olds.
I'm so happy!
-
congratulations borg
-
Thanks bud.
-
Well done... work on your confidence now. It's the main difference between a good and poor player in high school. If you have the confidence, you'll do well.
-
reserves for your school team?
-
Thanks Adi.
I am allowed to watch the match at BMO field, but can't play.
I have to go to all practices, and all home games, but not away. Doesn't matter cause we only have 3 away games anyway..
Normando, yes, I have made my school reserve team. It consists of like 9 kids. We are the "future team" because we are grade 9 and grade 10. They want to train us so we'll be ready and have confidence when we're older.
-
thats great borg! keep it up ,dedicate yourself and always be persistant...never give up,have a good time :D
-
Thanks for the kind words.
I can't wait.. in 2 years, life will be good.. hopefully.

borg play rep. You dont get scouted much at high school games in canada. Try to make Brampton East or something
-
Nah, too much politics. I'd prefer to try and get a scholarship through school.

I hate the politics too, but you're not gonna get far playing school soccer in Canada. I just suck up the politics and play.

I dont know about canada, but you are most likely right...sometimes politics is where you can be "seen".... just let your football skills/play do the talking...and put aside the politics...anywhere that you can get recognized more for the future will be good..but then again if you are content with playing school football and what not...that is great also...it just comes down to what you want to do :D
