Title: Warming up before freestyle....
Post by: Onas on Feb 28, 2009, 02:39: AM
Ummmm, well. After freestyle, my legs hurts, maybe I should warm up, but it takes quite long time and it's annoying. Btw, when you take a (for example) 5 min break, should I warm up again?

Is the pain muscle related?

It's important to warm up. If you don't, the risk of getting a damage is much bigger. The warm up doesn't have to be complicated either. You can do some atw's or something to get warm. Don't try hard things for you. Don't try to hard on the things either, no matter when. I've getting hurt in my legs of some tricks.

Yeah, it is, my calves hurt, it's not something unbearable, but it's quite annoying.

My calves hurt, it's not something very painful, but it hurts quite long time, for a 1-2 days, I'm not sure.

I do about 20 kickups and then, if I'm not ready to do tatw, matw, amatw yet, I just do atw combos. But "Don't try hard things for you. Don't try to hard on the things either, no matter when" does it mean I shouldn't try too hard to do latw? I did the trick few times already, but I can't do it when you ask me to.

first of all, dont triple post, u can type multiple messages in 1 post.
2nd, 20 juggles doesnt warm u up enuf, try doing 100 atleast befor u start doing tricks.
make sure u stretch a bit so u dont pull any muscles.

edit: typo

Can you do shin kick ups? Thats a good way to get you warmed up, maybe do what LIS said and do around 100 kickups.

For me it sounds like latw is a trick you have to try hard to do. Then it's not a good warm up trick. If you try Latw at the warm-up you'll stretch your muscles unnecesarely. If it's easy for you, then you can do it fine. It was the same for me with tatw: In the summer and early automn, tatw was a trick i often got pain of. I tried it really hard before I had warmed up and i could barely walk for 1 week. Now i can do tatw as warm up without problems.

And 20 kickups is not enough. I have to do about 500 to get really warm, but I don't do kick-ups as a warm-up. I try some short atw-htw combos for like 5-10 minutes and then i move on to harder stuff.

I can only repeat it.. Warming up is necessary for better freestyle "performances". If you don't warm up, your muscles can't perform on their maximum, and you can get injured easily.

My warm up is more realistic now
stretch first for like less than 5 min, it's important, you don't want to pull your leg muscles
then I do like 5 min of juggling, some crossovers, and a few atws
I gradually get more hardcore throughout my practice

is your pain something to do with the shin muscles? like it feels out of place, feels really stiff and sore, and makes it hard to do moves that require jumps?
coz it almost always happens to me like 3 months ago
it'll pass. It usually happens if you don't warm up.
your muscles will get used to it and somehow correct it
read about shin splints on wikipedia
I found on the net some ways to cure it
when the pain is at it's peak apply some ice on it, rest for a while, or stretch the part that is painful

 Um, well. I don't really remember, I'm almost sure that calves was the hurting part of leg, but shin muscles maybe too, I'm not really sure, because I returned to freestyle today after 2-3 weeks - I was ill. THe pain was after htw-atw combos too, but it was mainly because I was training the latw thingy for whole 1-2 hours.  Lol, I love this forum!

A good warm up is actually very important. Freestyle requires some crazy movements at times. Besides that, it can be pretty intensive. You could easily strain a muscle (hamstring).

I usually jog for 500 meter or something like that. Then I do some muscle stretching. For stretching I recommend reaching for your toes while standing straight. Don't overstretch this though. If you can't reach your toes, just go as far as you can and hold that position for a few seconds.

Hehe, thanks, but when I do latw thingy, my hip joint hurts, so shall I still continue? Usually when I start latw training, the pain comes immediately, but sometimes by the time it disappears. And sometimes I have pain in back, may it be because of freestyle?
