For all questions or thoughts regarding bodybuilding lets use this thread. I don't know how many interested people there are but that doesn't matter because I'll post daily in this topic.
Starting of with a favourite Cutler video
Moving on.. I'm hitting the gym after I have freestyled. Delts today.

last day I saw a traumatic "anabolic steroids" documentary in discovery channel....
there were a few sad story's of great body builders, who had alot of serious heart, testicular, intestine, etc illness because of taking steroids in excess....
even arnold schwarzeneger took them, and went to surgury because of that....
of course its not all about steroids, perfect training and a perfect diet come first, and steroids its a complement...
maybe that programm said pure bullshit, I really dont know, cuz im not a body building fan.... but lets hear oLi's opinion about this

I think u'll get a longer life if u bodybuilding(without the steroids) than if u sitting at the computer with a coke and fries.

maybe its obvious to you, but there alot of people out there that believe that guys like cutler are not on steroids, and are in fact getting that big by natural methods such as just hours and hours of working out....
its pretty obvious they are not.

Actually a little extra interest of mine is bodybuilding. Although I only workout at home cause I don't got time to get to the gym(unfortunately). My dad also buy this bodyboulding magazines called "body" which is really good.
Now to my question; Does any of you guys use proteinpowder or gainers and if so how has your result been ? I recently bought one but have only use it for 4 days after my workouts and was just curious about the result.

i work out 3 times a week, plus when 2 times a week light work out with my coach

I workout but i have stopped to practice more freestyle.
Johan I used some protein powder and it worked great, you just have to work hard and eat alot and you will see some results.

modays, wednesdays, and fridays
30 mins on thread mills to warm up.
then I go to the spesific musculation machines to work:
2 different excersices of cuadriceps (3 set's of 15 rep with each one , withan important weight),
2 exercises of esquitibiales(dont know how its called in english, its the muscle of the leg wich is behind the knee), and again 3 sets of 15 rep each ex.
3 excersises of chest (important weight, 3 sets of 12 rep each ex)
3 exersises of biceps (important weight, 3 sets of 12 rep each ex)
then I do 30 normal abs + 15 oblique abs in each side, I do that 3 sets...
then I do 20 mins of threadmill, strech all my muscle and go home...
then on tuesday, thursday and saturday I do:
30 min on threadmill
specific muscle machiunes:
3 ex. of back muscles (3 sets of 15 rep each ex)
3 ex. of shoulder muscles (3 sets of 15 rep each ex)
3 ex of triceps (3 sets of 12 rep each)
same ab's excersises as othe days

and very important is when you finish your routine is never eat something until 1 hour later

yeah its best to do that, but you can have a protein shake straight after but you can have a meal a little later.

You can eat something, its just best to have a protein shake and wait an hour untill you eat. I don't know much about this.

best is if you eat protein and carbohydrates right after your workout, it makes the recuperation progress faster

My trainer told me....if u eat something right after training, its much worse than if u dont eat anything....
he told me something of accumulating more fat in your body...
he has a licence in sport nutrition, so I dont think he says bullshit at all
and a banana wont hurt you I think....you can eat something, but I was refering to not eat a meal or something.... the best is eat something with alot of carbohidrats after training.....

Explain yourself immdiately and give me your source.

5-7 excersizes per muscle. 3 sets each. Reps are anywhere inbetween 8-12.
I usually combine chest with abdominals or biceps.
Back with triceps or shoulders with triceps.
Legs alone or with biceps.
I don't follow a certain schedual because my school doesn't allow me to. Sometimes I just get bombed with tests and book reports and whatnot so what I do is I write down after each practice what muscle or musclegroup I worked out and that way I can keep track of what I've done so that I don't train for eg biceps twice in 1 week without having done back once.
A workout can last anywhere between 60-120 minutes for me.

Don't expect any magic results because you're on some powder. You need to work out really hard aswell and don't be afraid you will wake up one day looking like Cutler because you won't gain anything over night. It takes really long time, of course some have an easier time thanks to good genetics.
I use protein powder and basicly it's just a way to reach 2g/kg. I could've reached that by eating a stake or two more but drinking a shake is so much easier and it doesn't make you full.

My legs get enough training from freestyling and football training. I haven`t bought any protein stuff yet, but I`m considering it. Any suggestions?

he says you musnt eat any meal right after training.... of course u can eat, but never a meal or something like that....
he didnt explain me why, but realy, trust me dude... he is liscenced in sport nutrition, so he sure know's more than you man

dude, ur workout is weird, u only seem 2 concentrate on ur shoulders and arms and ur chest goes inside a bit. try 2 work on ur chest more so it can catch up to the rest of ur body.

My pectorialis' are fucked by genetics. It's the muscle group that I've put most focus on actually and its the muscle group that has gotten the worst result

I think I`ve got that problem too , or at least I know my dad has. His chest is letterly almost flat, but especilly his triceps and shoulders are huge. So even if his chest is flat he`s good when it comes to benchpress, witch I find very strange. What excercises do you do for the chest??? dumbellflies, or whatever they`re called, are good I think. I`m going to try them together with push ups to see if any result will be seen...

Dumbell press, bench press, cable cross, flyes, inclines and declines version of dumbell and bench press and flyes

OK, seems all good. What's your goal with body building? Looking good, become a huge as a monster or other?
I do the gym as well. In my class I am known as "biffen" by both pupils and teachers. You might think I'm the biggest person ever now, but no no, it's no much of an achievement. I'm in a naturvetenskaplig class where all students are either skinny or fat.
Have you heard of MAX - OT? Comment if you have. I'm consider testing it for a while.

I've heard of max ot several times but I don't know what it is. You should deffinately try it whatever it is because I'm sure it can't be bad. Variation is always good!

200g cottage cheese with vanilla yoghourt
2 pieces of white bread with pepper salmon
Basicly after the breakfast I realized it was March so I followed my plan and started my cut.
Lunch
3 pieces of cod (altogether maybe 200g)
I've freestyled twice today already and I'll go to the gym and do about 40 minutes on the treadmill incline walking.
After that I'll probably have a protein shake and something else, don't know what yet

All of you: excercises depend on what you're training for. Theres no all-purpose way. Like if you want a good vertical, you don't work your calves for bulk, you refine the muscles and make them smallish (not SMALL, obviously), but really well developed.

with low abs I meant iliopsoas... wich is a muscle right below abs.... here in argentina its commonly to say "abdominales inferiores" wich translated is low abs, but now I figured out that in english u use other terminology...

Gym shouldnt take soo much of your time, remember you can only get bigger with rest, not constant work outs.
4 days a week gym, either before or after school, study rest of the time and weekends for social like and freestyle. Or you can freestyle before and after gym as your cardio.
My bad for answering olis question, but different routines suit different people, so a broader idea would be better for you anyways :thumbsup:

i dont want 2 damage my muscles and not be able to work out for a week, then get lazy and not work out at all.
trial and error is a bad way of figuring something out wen u can just ask. i only use that method if its an absolute must.
and i know that theres a few ppl with exp. here, so i can just learn of them.

to get a muscle more developed its necesarly to work with weight...
now, you have 2 options... for biceps you must grab a bar wich is way more tall than you, put your rists pointing to you and impulse your self up as much as you can and do like 3 sets of 8-15 repetitions according on how much you are impulsing your self up and how much strenght you are using....
to work triceps you can do either tricep dips or press up's... remember in press ups when your hands are more close to each other you'll work more triceps, and when your hand's are more distanced you'll work more chest... so try to do it with less distance as possible... do how much you want, prefferently 3 sets...
annd sorry for shoulders I dont know any "own weight lifting" excersise...
but you have another option still.... weight lifting.... go to a gym and let a pro trainer give you a rutine to perfectionate what you want....

-leg lifts/raises
-i dont know this ones name so ill explain it. lie flat on ur stomach and lift ur chest and limbs multiple times(for lower back)

In the beginning yes it will if you can't do more than perhaps 15 in one go but when you are at the point where you can do 200 in one go it will NOT give you any strenght gains and I guarantee this. Strenght is never gained by doing 200 of something or anything.

In the beginning yes it will if you can't do more than perhaps 15 in one go but when you are at the point where you can do 200 in one go it will NOT give you any strenght gains and I guarantee this. Strenght is never gained by doing 200 of something or anything.

Whats the purpose?
Is it just to look big, so nobody will pick on you?
Or is it something you would like to use in a future career? i.e Security Guard, Fitness Trainer.
I cant see anything desirable about being as big as some of the guys in the videos.
I find working out to get quite borng and tedious after about 30 mins.
I prefer to tone my body, increase stamina, flexibility and strength by fun methods.
So I do normal shit like Pushups, Situps, a few Dumbell excersises.
Then I Breakdance, which anyone will tell you, you need some good stamina and strength to perform shit, and it increases a lot of attributes!
And of course Freestyle Football helps a lot!
This is my experience, which is Maximum Fun - no steroids required.

because when you eat for example alot of fat and do alot of work out, you'll burn all that fat and this fat and it this bring's as a result more muclular mass in the muscles you have worked out to burn all that fat...
But now, following the same example with fat.... if you eat alot of fat and dont do any excersise, that fat wont change into muscular mass... it juist will stay there and the result of this is more fat porcentaje in your body wich obviously is something negative....

I dont think its good if u dont bend at all, i know a lot of ppl that has got an injury because they didnt bend.,
im not sure if its good or not, but wen u bend ur using other muscles to aid ur biceps. therefore there no longer bicep curls, there bicep+back+any other mucle curls. but u can do wat u want, but dont swing/bend if u want to get the full work on ur bicep only.

lol, im not 15 years old. i turn 19 in 5 months. think about it, when were 17, we start with 15, after few months, we go to 16, a few months later we advance to 17.5, remember, by this time im still under 18. so add on a 3-4 months and how much should i be lifting? and now that ive stoped, in 1 week i can get back to 20kgX8 but like 4 sets max. i did this a few weeks ago wen i was asking if u remember. but i just dont have enuf time for it any more.

Last time I did like 180 pounds for 5 reps but the range of motion suffered and in my opinion does it not only feel better using less weight and do more reps but also it feels a lot better doing ATG (ass to the grass).

No ATG is a description for how large your range of motion is and when you say ATG you basicly meen that your range of motion is so long that your ass almost touches the ground/floor ("grass") when you squat

I think I was able to lift 20 kg/arm at the time I turned 18. It was half a year ago and am lifting 20kg mostly atm and on rare occassions 22kg (there exist no 21kg in the gym I go to).
On the other hand, I only do 6 reps 3 sets.

Anyway short and quick update of todays workout
Started of with 4 sets of deadlift. As always my crap fucking grip had to fuck it up for me and I could only do 6 reps on 220 pounds but whatever... Continued with dumbell row, different variations of lat pull down and then I hit triceps. And at the end I did 30 minutes on the crosstrainer and burned 500 kcal. Overall good work out.

Anyway short and quick update of todays workout
Started of with 4 sets of deadlift. As always my crap fucking grip had to fuck it up for me and I could only do 6 reps on 220 pounds but whatever... Continued with dumbell row, different variations of lat pull down and then I hit triceps. And at the end I did 30 minutes on the crosstrainer and burned 500 kcal. Overall good work out.

Genetics decide how your muscle will look, it's not how you do the excersice that does it. I really doubt you're lifting stronger with 1 side than the other tho you might feel like that's what happening.

Buuuuut they usually have the music dead loud and if you're right near the speakers its so annoying cos you cant hear your own music even @ full vol. when it hurts your ears you can still hear the pop shit in the background :cursing:

I also hate benching. That record is more than 2 months old. Dumbel presses are much better in my opinion. I curled 40's today for 8,6,6. Didn't have more than an hour so I only did biceps. It went well, really good pump now :thumbsup:

You are only 15 years old mate you have a lot of time. Just don't buy any muscletech supplements :biggrin: (don't trust their advertizing it's all just a hoax more or less, if you want to use supplements just get some protein)

i bench 70kg and that for like 4 months now and i dont get better. i tried changin the other exercises that i do for pecs but it doesnt work either -.-. and i curl 15kg but i dont do normal dumbell curls i prefer sitting down i get a better pump from that and i dont use other muscles.

However the time i use on school days(30 mins - 1 hour), takes up the time that i plan on doing a section of my freestyle session.
Should i have a days break in between work outs, and maybe work hardcore on weekends? are any of yous in simular positions with time problems.

Yes have breaks between work outs.
You want your muscles to be in a good shape, if you don't have breaks you'll won't see results as fast.
Freestyle time can be whatever time (sucks freestyling at night) ahha
But to help you out
Freestyle when you get out of school.
workout one day skip one.
Unless you go hardcore one day, then skip two days.

i've been on a workout that has increased my strength incredibly. anyone looking to get a stronger upperbody in just a matter of weeks should try it:
Intensity Frequency
Mon- 100% (test); 40% 60 min
Tue- 50% 30 min
Wed- 70% 45 min
Thur- 40% 60 min
Fri - 80% 60 min
Sat- 55% 90 min
Sun- 20% 90 min
on monday, do as many pushups as you possibly can at once. say it's 100. then on tuesday, you're going to do 50 pushups every 30 minutes from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. on wednesday, you'll do 70 pushups every 45 minutes, and so on and so forth.
try this for two weeks, but do not do any sort of other workout at all. this has increased my strength incredibly. i don't like using weights, but when i got back to the bench from 195 i was at 230 repping 5-6 times on 4 sets.

I'm doing this because I have never been satisfied with how I look so I am finally starting to reach my ideal. My aim is not to become a professional bodybuilder but I have respect for those who are because they are sacrificing a lot including their health to name one thing just to pursue their dream.

yeah but its really hard too see the progress if you see yourself everyday in the mirror. but i dont get why people take steroids when they dont want to be pro bodybuilders, that shit damages your health. maybe oLi meant to write "looked" instead of "look"

I went from 64 kg to 80 kg in 10 months and now for the past 2 months I've been cutting with good resulsts and I'll keep cutting for atleast another month.

who say'd I want to look like a body builde or pretend to have 45 cm biceps?? I never sayd that, I started going for complementing my sports routine... and I sepcialize my training for ski (legs, and abs more than anything)
im just saying that since I started nothing has changed much like it should have, everybody sais it... even my ski trainer..
and I allways change my routine... I change the routine every 2 months.. and that routine is pretty new...
so I still cant find an answear other than a slow metabolism...
and for those who wonder... yeah! I break my ass to make the best I can every time I go to the gym... so beeing effortless is not an answear....
and my diet is normal, im 1.72 m tall, I have 65kg of weight and I eat about 1800-2100 kcalories per day depending the exigence of the day(the exigent days, the ones which I need to burn like shit, I just add abit more calories)

Your calori intake is way to low if you want to add muscles. Most likely since your excersice involves cardiovascular excersice you burn more than you eat and therefore you can't put on any muscle. Add more calories by food, if you cant do that then add by drinking a protein shake, and if you cant do that then eat 100 g of any nuts in your favour daily.
BTW how did the convo go with the coach that said all food eaten within 45 minutes after excersice goes straight as to being fat?

Your calori intake is way to low if you want to add muscles. Most likely since your excersice involves cardiovascular excersice you burn more than you eat and therefore you can't put on any muscle. Add more calories by food, if you cant do that then add by drinking a protein shake, and if you cant do that then eat 100 g of any nuts in your favour daily.
BTW how did the convo go with the coach that said all food eaten within 45 minutes after excersice goes straight as to being fat?

How old are you mate? I think you are pretty young aint you? I would suggest waiting until you are atleast 16 and see if you still want more muscle after that. There is no easy or simple way. It takes time and a lot of will, I'm sorry to say it but someone had to; it's the truth, it's really dificult. Tho I don't know your goal so maybe it doesn't go for you. Maybe if you show me a picture of how you look at how you would like to look I could give you a lot more help.

Good and interesting questions. I've tried to do leg work out at the gym so that it helps my freestyle but my patiance was in the way. After 2 weeks it got boring you know and I could never freestyle the day after a leg work out.. Honestly I think it could help for longer combos but I guess you'd have to do at least 20+ slow reps. That's just a guess tho as I'm not sure :thumbsup:

Yeah, I've also tried to make my legs stronger, so that I can get more stamina on heavy combos and tricks, but my feet get so tired after a leg workout, so I think I'll skip the leg workouts. Otherwise I can't freestyle properly :down:

I work out upper body for size and I work out lower body for endurance.
I don't do legs that often.. Keeping all reps above 20 is probably positive (or atleast not as negative as pure strenght/bodybuilding training) so I'd go with that. That's what I do whenever I do legs.

i just started to take a mass gainer a few days of ago since i noticed a decline in my weight after i had gained 15 lbs in two months (i know that sounds unrealistic) by eating 5 meals a day and snacking a lot of fattening yogurt :lol: ive tried a lot of supplements, in the U.S. i went to the nutrition store gnc ( i go regularly) and asked the guy what he reccomends...ive tried a lot of supplements myoplex, pro-nos, muscletech etc. muscletech for example is the most heavily advertised protein thats not as good as people think it is. now im off those and just taking that mass gainer...as for creatine dont take it because once you stop you will go back to nothing and its all water muscle

Because normally it is processed and is not really considered a clean food.
It is good stuff, but as for 'top of the line stuff', the others forementioned
are better than it.
Lentils for instance, for every 1/4 cup (half serving i believe?) has 10g of protein and each small little bag
has about 13 servings in it. You can buy a little bag for $1.
Plus beef has a lot of additives,hormones, and saturated fats. Now and again won't hurt you and could help,
but by no means should it be your staple :thumbsup:

:lol: im seventeen and i havent been to any well known gyms or atleast not yet. Though the local gyms here are actually really nice. They have all the equipment and machines needed in order to build a really good body. Maybe i don't know how bad swedish gyms are. Some chains here are x sport fitness, LA fitness, Lifetime Fitness. But they are not as good as Golds.

Though it may be poor, it is a legendary place and it is iconic for bodybuilding, and no i am not smart by telling you this because every bodybuilder knows that. I guess its all just in the name.

the gym i go to here in hamburg is pretty cool. is the biggest chain here in germany they got over 100 studios and the biggest one in hamburg is a 15 min bus ride away from my home, pretty cool. they dont have saunas and that wellness shit but thats for pussys, i go there to work out and they got everything you need

don't look at the clock while working out.. before you go to the gym set yourself what bodypart(s) you work out and what excersizes you are going to do and then let it take the time it takes.

Sometimes you don't feel like working out and instead prefer to eat. Other times its the other way around for me.
After my workout i drank that gainer and crashed for an hour.

I did it. I had a messy bulk, very dirty, still went great for me and after the cut I was really satisfied. I even gained muscle because my cut was serious for like 12 weeks. I recomend it man, if you can be serious during the diet in terms of cardio and food then you should definately do it.
Yeah that whole discussion. It's different from person to person, some can't do tris after chest and some can't do bi's after back. I couldn't when I started working out but now I have no trouble with it. A lot of IFBB pros have their split like chest and tris, back and bis. Not using that as something to back it up just saying I'm not the only one doing it.
Conclusion is really just do what works for you because not everything works for everyone

Gotcha. I could easily stick to a serious diet, I am just not sure I would have the patience with belly fat. Plus I used to do a lot of cardio until I started noticing a lot of weight loss and didn't like it, so now I am only running about 10 miles a week. Currently, I am just working on hypertrophy with a 4 day split and with an extra day on legs--just because they are so important to me since I grew up with skinny legs and I don't want to lose any progress. I have been experimenting with this for awhile, and noticed a lot of weight fluctuation, probably due to water gain/loss.
But I am seriously thinking of trying a bulk then cut, just don't know if I could stick through the patience right now in these months (should probably wait until winter where I don't have to talk off the shirt and can wear bigger clothing.)

Yes exactly. As a bodybuilder you would bulk far from contest and diet pre contest but as us "normal guys" we bulk during winter and then cut the fat of when the summer comes. Not only because it looks better but being 250 pounds in the summer oh boy imagine how much you would sweat and going to the beach with your friends to swim or w/e you'll be tired after 1 hour.
I am starting my bulk in 1-2 weeks. There's a little obstacle right now compared to my last bulk - I freestyle about 3 times as much nowdays. Most days about 2-5 hours. I think I'll buy some gainer product just to put the calories back if you know what I mean.

I am emotionally drained after today's workout did chest and most of my bicep workout...couldnt finish off the last stretch because i did extra chest. Also my first day at school and people were shocked about my size :rolleyes: some american football players asked what i was on ( i dont think im as big as i want to be but sure) :rolleyes: all i can say is fuck em this is my life :cheers: i hope none of you guys quit believing in going hard 100 percent of the time when in the middle of sets :cheers:
