Title: Patw, bad trick?
Post by: Christiaan on Feb 17, 2009, 09:33: PM
i was wondering if patw is a bad trick for your knees because you make a very fast triple rotation and i dont think it is very good for you knees?
what do you guys think?

I think it is bad for your knee's it rotates to fast, and then your damage your knee muscle or something
but yeah, ask fx,azun, zegan they can tell if they had a injury of practise patw

I'm going to practice until I will get patw once, then I will (probably) stop doing it, because I'm quite sure that it will have some kind of negative effects on your knees. Sure it does not have to be bad for everyone, but I don't want to be not able to run normally anymore when I'm older.

I think its different with everyone really .. but when i constantly tried it, it fucked my legs up soo much .. started to really hurt, but they are fine now cos i dont try patw anymore.

Like azun said. When i started practise it I got some pain in my knee and other places in the leg. I also felt the pain in my leg when I had done it too, but after some time it was ok to do it, if I just wormed up first.

I think It is more about the control and timing rather than speed of leg.
I would say it is more speed of the leg than control and timing. Sure timing and control are important as well, but even the freestyle with the best control and timing can't get patw. On the other hand, someone who has the fastest legs will sure get patw.

I think it's not that painful when you are warmed up well enough. if you go out and immediately start trying patw it's bad for sure. but after training atw, then latw, your muscles for the patw are warmed up enough i think

I think it's more about the timing!!! of course you need speed too, but you need a special  timing on patw! you can't do it like you do latw and then just put on another round, you need to do it different!! I think most of the tricks are about timing and it is really helpful if you have good speed.

I think it could be a good thing, like running, if you run really fast is that bad for your health? But i cant do patw so I cant really comment.

exactly, for patw you need a perfect 1st touch, if you haven't a perfect 1st touch, but you have fast leg's, you won't get patw... anyway's, strogness and fast leg's help too, but the key to land patw is the first touch,.....

aclaration  : perfect 1st touch=timing

so In this one I must agree with andrew, but sven isn't 100 % wrong either...because in fact you need speed, but not as much as timing
I almost landed patw, I did it but I coulndt control the ball after it, and my right foot isn't fast and strong because of injury's I allready commented about... And I practiced alot the first touch and to keep eye on the ball and even with my shity leg I landed it...(not control after but I landed it)

So in conclusion, timing is the esential thing, fast legs is secondary

its easier to get the perfect speed, then perfect timing..

if you have really fast speed, the timing is less imporen(still importen).. and then you can do it more often cause the speed will save you...

Agree
but look to the patw from Murilo, that one was the slowest i ever seen :saywhat:
hl=nl&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999
so i think control is the best thing on patw, 2 is speed and timing

Title: Re: Patw, bad trick?
Post by: ikron on Feb 20, 2009, 06:25: PM
being tall is an important factor( 5 ''11 ) or so because when ur tall it actually gives u alot of time needed for the 3rd revolution and the 3rd is the hardest revolution as the ball is falling down at a fast pace and so u have lesser time to go around it(lesser time = harder to control the ball as its try to touch it).As murilo did the patw , he did it slow because hes tall and he didnt need to jump that much.for him its mostly about timing and control
but eg for a freestyler like me..im just 5'8.5 the ball is huge for me and i need a high jump to do the patw and speed plays an important part for me,then comes control and timing.

theres a video of me doing the patw in the beginning and it seems so hard because i was already going really fast and i wont lie i have a pretty fast leg with horrible style .I would definitely find it hard to get it as going faster than that is really difficult.

Often, you will get pain when you're trying hard at something your body isn't used to. For example patw. When you try as hard as you can to get the ball three revolutions around the ball you will feel pain. That's the logic way, but of course: No rule withouth an exception. So you can be lucky. I don't know how many percent that felt pain when they practiced patw for the first time but i guess most people did.

When your body is used to the movement, you won't feel pain (Again, no rule without an exception). And Patw is not the only trick. I had alot of pain when I didn't know the right way to do Tatw (A long time ago).

i think its psychological...when i first tried matw i was really scared to do it with my legs coming together as it was my first inside trick and thought how is it going to be ever possible and my weak leg hurt a lot as i had tried something new...so if we dont fear it i think it would be much better and the pain will go away with practise like becs said...but i too wanna walk stable in my old age so i will be careful...

no, he does the most with a normal sized ball, you fail

I wanted to reply you because i think that you sais that 'palle does it the most clear', just becuse he is Palle, if Skora would do it with exactly thesame style and Palle did it with Skoras style I can bet some money on that you would still say Palle
