Title: Friends/Family attitude to FS?
Post by: DanTheMan on Dec 06, 2008, 11:00: PM
I have some friends who think its cool, but others are VERY skeptical and frankly jealous, and they just say retarded things about it.. not that i take notice of them

what about u guys? do people at school know about your FS etc? coz TF told me nobody at his school knows about his freestyle which is crazy  :dontknow:

And when i wanna do sits or somethin, they start tell in me "you think your M.A.D?"
And when i do uppers they keep o tellin me your tricks arent good even your vids( as if i have one :S) then i tell them i think im good for my level then all of them are like, let me bring M.A.D to show you what really freestyle is, and i tell them as if he's the best freestyler in the world and igonre them
All the kids in school know about my freestyle and make fun of me
PS they cant juggle more than 10 times :saywhat:

At first people thought it was stupid and like tried to take the mick cause thats all I did and stuff. But now I have been on TV and stuff they have all shut up. Sometimes people say Oli Hayes Football Freestyler and shit like that but in a good way and I just laugh at them. But everyone in my school knows I do it and now I have the fittest girl in the school aswell so they can be jelous all they want haha yeah boi!

Ahhh... yeh same problem dude...

My family are really encouraging especially my dad.. theyve got no problem...

All of the lads are really cool with it... however some of the girls are different...

but like the last time i fsed in skool was like when i could only do 1 atw... maybe the reaction would be much differnt nowadays...

Oh.. and my best mate. (whos a girl) she faincies john farnworth so...

My Mum dosen't get it at all.  I show her some tricks like atw and that and she's just asks why.
My close mates don't like it because we all play football quite seriously and we all compete to be better than each other so now that I can totally show them up with fs is good.  One of my mates, when I first showed him atw he was like yeah I can do that, then he tried and was no where near it.

oh moreorless the same here!!

mum doesent seem to have much intereest and I she doesent mind....my dad goes crazy with creative things such as stuff sean can do and I do the same and he really loves it!!!but If i show him a tatw-amatw nt....or a 10  move combo then he doesent seem to like it tht much

And I have lots of friends who love soccer...and those are one of my best friends...and they say its really cool what I do, some of them have a basic knowledge of freestyle.....and I dont suck at match at all!!im in a provintial soccer youth team, so  I dont have the problem of my friends saying:cool but I wanna see u on pitch....because they know tht I can play well soccer!!

But then u have those ignorants who never saw me playing soccer and say: I BET U SUCK AT PITCH!! and I just dont give a fuck and if I have a chance I kick their ass till they must go to the hospital

I don't know about any who dislikes fs except my former coach (who sucks). When i did tatw he said: "let me show you something" to embarras my skill and tried to demonstrate that tatw is worthless in a game by shooting at the goal from long distanse but he missed  . Every one else think it's cool.

after reading the posts i guess its the same for most of us. when people see me freestyling i normally get two responses. they either completely ignore it like i'm doing nothing special at all or they think that its the most incredible thing they've ever seen. i have had a few people who question if i'm any good at playing actual football, but there are only like 2 or 3 people at my school who play at the same level of players as i.

A few friends try to be cocky about it and I just play the money card showing I can earn more per hour than their mom and dad together. Most have only been cocky once then after playing that card I've never heard anything again. Anyway most friends think it's really cool of course but most are probably bored cus most often they've only see me do lower. But they deffinately like it, most of them.

when friends ask me how i've learned this I say to them that: practise is everything and everybody can learn it, so start with it ;),.. they say it's bullshit and claims i have a gift from God .

i've heard about a guy in a school in my town that was cocky about doing neckstall and atw, my friends showed him a vid of mine and after 30 seconds he walked away and didn't show up again that day

freestyle and friends should be kept seperate imo
theres a few cool people who know about it and respect it
but theres also some queers who try to take the piss
and just do annoying things like come round while im training and kick the ball away
also i passionatly HATE people who like watch one of my vids and say "stop showing off"
at school the next day

family are awesome they love it and are very supportive in respect to gettin me to LP's and stuff
my mums always on the forum watching vids lol

When my dad was younger, he had juggling as a hobby and performed at night clubs and such so he thinks it's fun that I'm also doing something that's a bit simular. My mum doesn't know what I'm doing and doesn't really care.

My friends don't know at all, freestyle is my way out of school and friends so I can relax and do what I like.

My mother hates when I juggle inside the house, which I do all the time. She sends me on my room to juggle instead.

My friends which play normal soccer says exactly the same to me as many others in here writes. "You can't use that in a match" they say. Probably jealous  When I juggle at school many pupils says that I'm trying to be cool, but I just do a thing I love..Freestyle. I'm freestyling with a friend too btw..

Most of my friends think its amazing and couldn't believe that I could do any of it!I didnt really tell/show anyone outsde my close friends/family till my first video in April(which is hilariously shit looking back on it!).

family love all the video and think it great. But thats mostly because i show pretty much anything cool looking in my travelling/freestyle around the world videos.if it was just freestyle they wouldnt like it as much.

My bro was amazed to see RBSS on the tv and emailed me misprononcing every fsers name!

when i used to busk back home or when making videos i got the odd person saying "youre shit" but some watch and applaud or jokingly throw money at me.

Many of my friends think it's cool, but they dont really said it much. They just make fun of me and stuff. When they see me they are like: "Yoo, whats up freestyler, can you do the "aokwr"?" (They make fun of the tricks like atw and stuff, they think it sounds stupid)
I dont really care, they can think what they ´think. They always say that i cant use it on the pitch, and i dont even play soccer anymore. I try to explain what fs are, and there is a huge different between fs and soccer. They dont get it, they just makes fun of me. I just say that this is my thing, why can't you accept that? I want to make money on it, and if i one day get really good, i can make more money than you do on something you hate doing. And i love fs, so for me it's the best job ever. I get all the fun. There are just like: "tssch, but we dont have to do something over and over again, doing the same thing". Then i say: "Just like your mom, eh?" And then they stop saying these kind of things:P

My parents think it's cool but they dont see a future in it, cus they dont really know what it is. And they dont think you can make lots of money on it, and they think that it's just a hoppy for me, and soon i'll get another one.

Macca is true about the friends thing. I think FS is my life though, I always think about it and even when my girlfriends round I have youtube on with the latest FS video... But friends also in my world appreciate and respect my passion for what I do but I am different around them than I used to be before freestyle. My confidence has built up and for people who have met me I am mentaller now than even and when I am with friends its a different league also. I don't drink either and most of my friends do so when I am parties I have to be extra mentaller to make people mental with me. Cause I am cool....

Many of you guys are really lucky, having your friends pay attention to your freestyle, and your parents to support you. I am, on the other hand, not so. The other thing my parents tell me about FS is that :" Don't do that more than 45 min -1 h each day because you gotta do good at school" although I've never do bad at school in my whole schooling career.
When you are performing and people go watch you, that's a great thing. But people here in Washington don't really gives a sh!t about it. When I went to Seattle to perform and did several lps there, nobody even care to watch. Even sole juggles and a half minute upper combo couldn't impress them.

Unless I earned money on it or something. Sad how almost everything's about money nowadays (not that I'm used to times when there wasn't).

My parents and friends support me, but acquaintances and teammates-not so much. Strangers love it, but are only really impressed when I do like a CO 360 or an Matw or Tatw. I told one of my teammates that I had a Youtube account with my freestyle on it, and he's like, "Bull shit!" :argue: :cursing: I still have yet to show him my channel, he's going to be really surprised!
