This way you can download high quality youtube mp4s and it doesn't lose any quality because youtube store mp4s of their videos
Step 1: Copy the URL of the video eg http:// uk.youtube.com /watch?v=-azCNJGMi1g
Step 2: now add &fmt=18 (format 18 on youtube is mp4) to the end of it so you got http:// uk.youtube.com /watch?v=-azCNJGMi1g&fmt=18
Step 3: go on keepvid.com and paste this into the box and click download
Step 4: then, it should say
Download links
Links found on http:// uk.youtube.com /watch?v=-azCNJGMi1g
Report any problems to: keepvid.com@gmail.com
›› Download ‹‹ (get_video.flv - Low Quality)
Right-click download link, choose 'Save Target As...', and rename file to get_video.flv
›› Download ‹‹ (video.mp4 - High Quality)
Right-click download link and choose 'Save Target As...' to download
Right click ›› Download ‹‹ and press save target as next to where it says video.mp4 - High Quality
This way is much better than a converter because it doesn't lose any quality

I have a good way.....
Get FIREFOX. It is way better than IE for sure...
Anyways, once you get firefox, you can have a BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR FOLDER. It should come up above your tab bar.....
Add this bookmark to the BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR FOLDER:
javascript:if%20(document.getElementById('download-youtube-video')==null%20&&%20!!(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)))%20{var%20yt_mp4_path='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=18&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t'];%20var%20div_embed=document.getElementById('watch-embed-div');if(div_embed){var%20div_download=document.createElement('div');div_download.innerHTML='<br%20/>%20<span%20id=\'download-youtube-video\'><a%20href=\''+yt_mp4_path+'\'>Download%20as%20MP4</a>%20'+%20%20((navigator.userAgent.indexOf('Safari')!=-1)?'(control-click%20and%20select%20<i>Download%20linked%20file%20as</i>)':('(right-click%20and%20select%20<i>Save%20'+%20(navigator.appName=='Microsoft%20Internet%20Explorer'?'target':'link')%20+'%20as)</i>'))+'</span>';div_embed.appendChild(div_download);}}void(0);
Now when you go to YouTube video, click the Bookmark in the toolbar. Under the EMBED part of the decription, a link should come up in BLUE and underlined, like a link should be. it should say, DOWNLOAD AS MP4.
Now right-click on the link and select "Save Link As". Now when choosing the save location, save it to say, My Documents or wherever, but save it as the filename, then .mp4 at the end. If using Vista, change the "Save File Type", to all files.
I know it sounds like alot of work, but beleive me, it is way worth it, you can download the videos quick as with no conversion, no quality loss, then import staright in to iTunes or to iPod. Hope this huge load of crap helps you man....

Try to download the videos from www.keepvid.com then i think the video format will work

All these youtube downloaders is actually not nessesary, because when you watch a video, and it's done buffering, it gets automaticly saved in a temporary folder on your PC, depending on which browser you use. If you use Opera, it's in "C:\Users\*your username*\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\profile\cache4\".

Cool! What format is it in though?

FLV. You have to put the ".flv" in the file name manually though, because all the files are like this ("opr0D94" etc.):
It's not hard to find the video though, you can see it on the file size, because the youtube videos usually are over 2000 kB, while the other files (images etc.) are all less than 1000 kB.
A great thing about this is that you can go back and find videos you watched earlier. For instance if a video suddenly gets deleted on youtube and you watched it before it got deleted, you can just go into your temp. folder and look for files over 2000 kB around the time you watched it, and you'll find it.
-
Sweeeeet.....Could I put it as a .MP4 file extension? and would that change it and would it work?
-
You could always put it as .mp4, and media players that plays FLV would play it, but not players that only play MP4, but not FLV. It would still be in FLV-format, so you will have to convert it if you want to watch it on your mobile or iPod, if that's why you want it in .mp4 ...
-
kewl i sure will try the temp folder thingy! mus b alot eazier
-
hang on i found an easier way to get high quality mp4s
copy and paste the URL (address) into keepvid.com
right click > save target as ›› Download ‹‹ (video.mp4 - High Quality)

Hmm, I guess you are using IE, right? Latest version (with tabs)? If so: Tools->Internet Options->General Tab->Log->Settings->View Files (they might not be named exactly like that in the english IE, but something like that)

They don't get saved as FLV anymore (I guess that's a change youtube's done to their site to make it harder for people to find the videos they watch), but it should get saved as "get_video"-something, and then you can just move it wherever you want it and put .flv to the file name manually.
You did watch a video (in IE) before you looked in the folder, right?

Maybe it's because you have UAC enabled. Try disabling it.

Smartass? It's very ok you didn't know how to do it. I'm pretty sure most people don't. I just put that link to show how useful google can be, and that you can just use that next time you have a question. The "was that so hard?"-thing in that site wasn't put by me, if that's why you thought I was being a smartass. I just want to help, that's all. :]
I would recommend disabling UAC anyway though, because it's really annoying, don't you think? And can yuo download videos in high quality from that toolbar thingy? If not, temporary folder method is better, because they get saved as high quality when you watch it in high qulity on youtube.
sorry if u were offended.
i said, it is disabled. ur trick doesnt work. i think it does download in high quality. u just click the high quality version and press download.
