Title: Which is the origin of football freestyle?
Post by: Ricky on Oct 24, 2008, 02:49: PM
Which is the origin of the freestyle soccer that looks like that of these days....
With the famous video of touzani, that was an inspiration for (many people) or the competition of the Internet page nikefutbol.com, where started demonstrating different skills with the ball, there born the freestyle??

Maybe the adverts with Ronaldinho and Edgar Davids? Although i think that Touzani deel 1 was the very start. That's when freestyle as a "sport" really started in my opinion.

it originated from alot of different things to become what it is today, a worldwide sport based on the internet. ( I suppose )

Trying to find the exact time or place or who invented freestyle is silly, there is no answer. It is a combination of football players, circus jugglers, football jugglers, breakdancing etc. All ideas copied or adapted by different people at different times.

Confusing post i know.

But basically what i am trying to say the freestyle world today is a mix of many different things. ( nike ads, mr woo, maradonna, enrico rastelli etc etc.)

maradona was a footballer who was very good at juggling the ball.  rastelli was a circus performer who also did things that resembled freestyle.

the first guy to take it to the next level, branch off, and literally create a new sport of football freestyle in its own right... to the best of my knowledge, is mr. woo.

but of course, my video project will also consist of much older clips as well :)

and knee stall was pioneered by some unknown greek dude thousands of years ago.  doesn't make HIM a freestyler either.

For me you say what freestyle is and not when it was born. No offense, very good post. I agree with you.
