Title: Honduras 3-1 Canada
Post by: ^_^ on Oct 12, 2008, 04:16: AM
Yep. Another great result by a great team. Who scored? None other than Carlo(s) Costly.

Canada was nothing in this game; Honduras is on the rise, I say again...Honduras is on the rise!

Honduras will go to the World Cup from what I can see. Two teams out of your group go through, right?

Did Nunez play by any chance?

Yeah he was playing, he started with the number 10 shirt. He played well, in fact, all of Honduras played well. But who I'm most proud of is Wilson Palacious and Minor Figueroa; Wigan has matured the shit out of these two players and this is exactly what we needed: players with experience in Europe, like Suazo (who didn't even play!)

a la mundial honduras 2010!!!

Are you stupid? Honduras is about as big as my thumb and we are finally getting players to play abroad. Jealousy is a female trait

haha, it's a classic line, I had to deploy it.

fine TF10, fine, as long as we all recognize the greatness of Honduras so far. It's still a long road to qualification, but I have this good feeling about our squad this time around.

good win for honduras on the road.  although, traveling to canada <<<< traveling to central america in concacaf

the us is through  .  that was much better than the lsu game

Concacaf is getting much stronger; last world cup it was Trinidad who broke through, and who are continuing to be tougher than usual. Mexico actually lost thier game though; and i'm not saying this because i'm American, but Mexico is getting much weaker while the U.S is getting a lot stronger with the influx of  youth like Bradley, Edu, Adu, etc.

"Trinidad"

low ceiling.  pop. of approx 1 million.  i think that we will start to see them become less successful in the years to come

"Mexico is getting much weaker"

nah.  they are just the victim of an uncharacteristically hard third round qualifying group

"influx of  youth like Bradley, Edu, Adu, etc."

started long before that.  we are starting to see returns from some of our intitial success in international youth tournaments i.e. starting to see some of the talent on those teams come into their own on the senior nats stage.  remember that players like landon donovan, damarcus beasley, and oguchi onyewu (from the '99 U17 WC 4th place team and first US residency program) are starting to hit their prime

i've been very impressed with this group's ability to go on the road in qualifying (guatemala and cuba--consistently underrated because no one knows a god damned thing about their team--especially) and take three points.  this is not something we have been able to do on a regular basis in the past

unrelated:  have a look at this guy in the t&t game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Francisco_Torres

i'm talking about the US breaking away from Mexico because Mexico doesn't have the youth that the US does (although they do have Carlos Vela)

and that players like Donovan, Onyewu are hitting thier prime while Mexico has Blanco, Borghetti, and Pardo finishing thier careers.

"Mexico doesn't have the youth that the US does (although they do have Carlos Vela)"

they have A LOT of young talent (that U17 WC team with carlos vela won the tournament).  it just doesn't get too much publicity here e.g. how much did you hear about andrés guardado when he was at atlas?

i definitely would not consider them on the decline.  however, i think you'll see the other teams around them in concacaf become much more competitive (especially the US)

EDIT:  you also have to remember that mexico has always competed very well interntationally.  for them to "improve," it would have to involve them challenging the top-tier teams of the world in the wc.  they have a rock-solid youth development system in place, and their domestic league is very good.  there will always be a collection of young talent in mexico

If Mexico has anything, it's youth. To name a few: Guardado, Dos Santos, Vela, and Ochoa. There are also more that are yet to break into the first team. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that group of players is more talented than the one of the US.

Mexico has Eriksson in charge now so that will take a bit of time to get used to. He plays a completely different style than any previous Mexico coach. Mexico lost tons of games because of terrible organization or players simply losing their heads.  Eriksson is going to sort them out hopefully. If the players are smart enough to listen and adapt, they'll be a much better team than before.

loss to Florida...it was hilarious...I was so happy. I only watched the 4th quarter.

huuugggeeeeeee

LSU got raped....thats right I follow college football  :pimp:

anyhow...I'd say the two youth programs are about equal but it seems like the US has more of it, just less concentrated. Canada has some too...if only John De Guzman would come play for us, and if we hadn't lost Hargreaves  :cursing:

Yes, Mexico does have youth but from what I've seen they don't play too well together (for instance Neri Castillo was a great talent but for some reason or another he doesn't play for the national team).

The Mexicans don't even like Eriksonn, or rather, didn't approve of him being selected as the coach. He doesn't speak Spanish, so I don't think he'll be able to integrate the youth as well as, say, Bob Bradley can with the United States. My point is that the US is improving much faster than Mexico, and thier regular starters havn't even primed yet.

well they make a big deal about college sports...my dad went to University of Florida and he still remembers the cheers...so what small liberal arts colleges have decent soccer programs? You might have heard of them since you live in the US...I get to the states enough to still feel a bit american (born in Indiana bitches), but I get out of the loop a lot
