So we've seen a presidential debate where McCain was hammered in foreign policy and came out on the bottom in economics as well...Biden destroyed Palin in the VP debates...he had the facts and she didn't.
Also, she said the following:
'Say it ain't so, Joe!'
'Doggone'
'Shout out goes to my brother's grade three class'
'My experience comes from Wasilla Mainstreet.'
'We are a team of Maverucks (dozens of times)'
Thoughts?

obama should be elected. but if mccain is.... it's ok. he's bound to die pretty soon anyway, then palin will take over. then US will have something they never thought they'd have before. a first female president. and... a president that's dumber than george bush.

Hahahah that was classic.
I've been following debates, speaches and opinions on YouTube.
Seems Palin is a bit of.. hmm what should we call it... an absolutely retarded monkey perhaps.

Apparently she has foreign policy experience because Alaska is the closest state to Russia

no during an interview she said that she has more foreign policy expreience than Biden (who has been a foreign policy legislator for decades) because she can see Russia from Alaska

Obama's been palling around with terrorists; we can't let that towelhead in office :cursing:

ELITE
in all seriousness, though, if anybody can pull America up, it's him...also, the entire world loves him

This election seems like a circus to me, to be honest. McCain obviously chose Palin because he too wanted to "make history" by being elected. And because i'm absolutely sure he's hitting that on the side
-
he's cheated on a wife before...why not?

I'm going to fucking hate America and its people if McCain wins. Obama!!!! :rockit:
-
I'm going to fucking hate America and its people if McCain wins. Obama!!!! :rockit:
agreed
I will have such a massive loss of confidence in the intelligence of people in general if McCain wins...

I'm going to fucking hate America and its people if McCain wins. Obama!!!! :rockit:
I already do after Bush; but it would seriously be a shame if McCain wins.

whats good cuttys?? I'll tell you what the Hook thinks,
Both candidates is like a public rest room's toilets.
They are all dirty, are full of shit, and get pissed on.
But you gotta pick the one with the least shit and piss and the least dirty
which is Obama. McCain is retarded dog, he runs Arizona like shit
my boy (yo what up deonta) from PHX says that fool be making hella taxes for stupid
shit like research that no one cares about.
Obama, cause he got reason, will settle all this middle eastern hostility shit
yo let's do it, vote for my man Obama
-
i want schwarzenegger for president
-
The debate was quite close tonight. I think Obama was just a bit better. Even if it was a tie, Obama still won because McCain was supposed to make up some ground this evening.
Conner, please share some of your more conservative views. Would be interesting to hear the other side. Are you definitely not voting for Obama?
-
i'm definitely not voting. i'm not interested, and to be quite honest, i don't really like all of it
i'll do a little bit of substantial () reading (this weekend maybe) on the election and get back to this thread
can't promise anything. it'd be easier if we could get a summary of major "points" from each side in this thread
-
i'm definitely not voting. i'm not interested, and to be quite honest, i don't really like all of it
Just vote for Obama then. We'll have a better chance for change with him. I just want something different and we won't get it from someone who votes 96% of the time like Bush.
-

voting against green eggs and ham?

I don't understand people outside America following the American elections. I always fry my friend when he brings that bullshit up. I'm not even a registered voter down here.
-
i'm definitely not voting.
My respect for you is no longer.
-
i could give a lengthy response as to why i won't vote on principle, but i won't. i'm a 19 year old kid who just needs to get his shit together. i don't give a flying fuck about an election. i can't care, and right now, i just don't care. not voting, is in my opinion, better than arbitrarily pulling a lever
-

Who ever is elected US President will have pretty significant impact on the rest of the world. Our economy impacts the stock markets of other countries, and our decisions to go to war usually force other countries to go one way or the other. So in a way there should be some interest from other nations.

He probably meant it as in 1 vote doesn't win an election for Obama or McCain but imagine if 1000 Obama supporters think like your professor? Btw as a first impression of your professor I must say he seems stupid.

To be honest, there could be better candidates.

This is true, and for me especially living in a red state. Let's be completely honest, McCain will probably win Louisiana. Would my vote make a difference in this? Who knows; if i knew that voting Obama would get him the state, then i'd do it. But I don't think my voting Obama would win him the state.
about can't caring; it's true. i know people who skipped studying sessions just to watch the debates! :o
Of course one must care about who will be in charge of his country, but isn't the ultimate priority in life your own well being? I suppose so; i've had tons of work to take care of in the past 3 weeks, and every minute counts!
-
Oh right there's this system that candidates win by state and not by entire % of population, right?

electioned can be tampered with... bush shouldn't have won but he did.

it's an extremely large statistical improbability. it's not limited to adi's professor. it's a prevailing theory among economists, and i won't disagree with it. people could, but won't

the electoral college. just wikipedia it. it's not a direct election

seriously, it's off-putting. it's a sick circus for a year every four years

-
well im not from the usa....but....i think if obama wins, the united states will get something different(we dont know if better or worse, but it seems really difficult to get something wich is more worse than bush).
And about mccain... his mentally is quite similar as bush one's....so if obama wins...usa will be different but if not.. iN my opinion there would be more or less the same
if i had to vote, my vote would go to OBAMA!! :booty:
-

Obama was way more specific and his sentence structure actually made sense...mcCain rambled and talked about the same thing over and over again

Obama won the 7/10 debate in my oppinion. The only thing McCain did was to change any question into "I've served this country".
False scenario (could be true):
Reporter: We are standing here with senator McCain. McCain is it true you have 13 houses?
McCain: I have served this country.

HAVANA: Former Cuban president Fidel Castro charged that American society was marked by "profound racism" and that it was a "pure miracle" that US
presidential hopeful Barack Obama has not been assassinated.
"Profound racism exists in the United States," Castro wrote in a commentary that appeared on the website Cubadebate Saturday as he weighed in on the US presidential race ahead of the November 4 election.
"Millions of whites cannot reconcile in their minds with the idea that a black man with his wife and children would move into the White House, which is called just like that -- White," he wrote.
He added that it was a "pure miracle" the Illinois senator, who became the first black politician to win the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, had not been assassinated thus far.
The ailing Cuban communist leader, who handed power to his brother Raul earlier this year, described Obama as a politician who "has the habit of looking at his opponent with serenity and laughing at his rhetorical attacks."
Castro's comments came as a war of words with racial undertones marked the US White House race after civil rights icon John Lewis accused Republican candidate John McCain of sowing "hatred" against Obama, who is developing a commanding lead in opinion polls.
Castro also mocked McCain's poor grades at the naval academy and said Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin "knew nothing at all about anything."
Castro speaking the truth about America as usual.

all obama wants is more government. 67% of everyone's salary will go to the government just so they can raise taxes for ppl who make more than 200k a yr. obama wants the troops back from iraq, and then we'll just have another attack on our country. and obama wants health care for evrybody, even the farmers. democrats just want everyone to be equal, like someone who lives on the streets and doesnt bother to try and get a job to be exactly the same as a normal person who has a normal life. why would you want your money taken away from you just so they can give it to the people too lazy to help themselves. besides, he'll just get asassinated. mccain is the way to go, in my opinion.

Your arguement is so basic, I don't even know what to reply to. Half of your facts are wrong.
95% of people will get their taxes reduced. Those in the 250K+ bracket will only pay about $1000 more in taxes. That's nothing considering they are making a shit load of money. The middle class will get a bit relief so they can catch up with their rent and bills. This will make the entire economy more stable.
By the way, are you calling the entire middle class lazy? Just about everyone is struggling right now. Shit, I just realized you are only 11. Please tell your parents not to vote.

this is the dumbest post I've ever read...
A: you contradicted yourself
B: your info is wrong
C: Why the fuck do farmers not deserve health care?
D: taking troops out of Iraq won't lead to hostilities against the US. It will do the opposite. It is Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran that are even remotely dangerous.
E: Have you ever spoken to anybody who isn't rich? Your views are so fiscally elitist that it is ridiculous, and yet you are clearly not educated enough to deserve the financial privilege you have.
F: Yes there will most likely be attempts on Obama's life, but the entire world loves him, so these attempts will come from within the USA.Also, if the president gets assassinated, who takes over? The Vice President. I couldn't ask for anyone more qualified than Biden to do that, what with all of his foreign policy experience. McCain is old, and has health issues, and assassination threats can never be ruled out. If he dies, who takes his place? The least qualified person ever to have the intenion to set foot in the whitehouse: Sarah Palin. Half the people I know have more educated views than her...
for someone so young, our views are pretty fucked up. If they are your own, please remove yourself fom society once you turn 18, and if they are your parents, as Adi said, tell them not to vote, or to read a book or two (or learn how to read, for that matter) before they even think about filling in their ballot.

I thought McCain did better than Obama last night. McCain's expressions are still killing him though. He needs to stop that shit. You can tell he's getting agitated. Obama did well to keep his cool.
And I'm pissed that Obama didn't take the opportunity to bash Palin. He had a perfect chance to increase his lead there, but he didn't use it. Instead, McCain came out bashing Biden. What a joke! That right there is the exact problem with the damn Democrats. When they have a chance to take full control of the race, they don't. In previous years, whenever the democratic candidate would say one thing wrong, the republicans would pounce on it and take the election away. Obama and the rest of the party should be ripping Palin more and doing everything in their power not to lose another race.
-
McCain kept stressing the fact that Obama is raising taxes, but Obama would make some smart comment back to him which made me laugh. He did keep his cool, and looked really still at some points. McCain looked very active and really used this opportunity.
-
McCain also showed a nasty streak that is sort of troubling. You can tell that he was having a tough time keeping his cool. I thought Obama won everything except for economy, although McCain kept it really close the entire time. Still, though, it's not gonna change the election results.
-
No, Obama's role was to play his cool and not make any mistakes. That's exactly what he did. He didn't need to bash anyone. Those tactics are being used by the Republicans because they can't win votes by talking about real issues. Most polls say that the majority of the people do not like the negative campaigning.

This is hilarious, sorry for the double post

Haha, thanks for posting that. I only got to see a little bit of it last night. Did McCain get up and speak? If so, do you have his part? I would think he'd be pretty bad at this.
Obama definitely got some points for that.

Low Price of Gas?
With only 14 days until the election it seems a little late to get into reporting about all this, but here goes.
Is it even a surprise as to why the gas prices are down all over the country? Perhaps a last ditch effort by the Republicants to gather support, we’ll never know. It’s no secret that McCain’s tax cuts are more inclined to favor the majority of people who make in the $200+ range. Why is that?
Most of the old money in the good ol’ U.S. has been passed down through stocks and trustfunds dating back to the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution: The start of oil and coal dependency for the world. So is it any secret as to why the economy’s collapsed, and the richest people still support the same people they always have, regardless of how bad the situation has gotten and is yet to get? Because their interests are just that, their interests. The oil companies in the world have previously agreed that they’re going to try to get as much money as they can out of the people before finding an alternate energy source.
Why haven’t we switched over to solar and wind energy previously? We don’t own the sun and wind.
Sarah Palin: A Snowmobiler's Dream
My wife’s the governor of Alaska and everyone in Wasilla loves her. Little do they know she’s put our little population 20 million dollars in debt. That just goes unnoticed because it’s too damn cold here to do anything other than fuck, hunt, and ride snowmobiles. Ten men in black landed in my backyard yesterday and asked my gorgeous slut of a wife to be the Vice Presidential candidate for the GOP. After I talked to them they promised that if McCain/Palin win I get my own snowmobile and winter outerwear line! But they said if they lost then we’d have to go back to Wasilla in utter embarassment, but still act like we’re hot shit. There might be talks of my 17 year old daughter going on a special of Dr.Phil or something too, because Oprah sure ain’t taking her.
This Election You Too Can Fuck Sarah Palin, By Voting for Barack Obama
So the current talk all over the media is that Colin Powell endorsed Obama. What goes along with that is people are saying that the reason he endorsed him is because they’re both black. What the fuck! Sure, he MAY have endorsed him because they both have the same damn pigment, but has it crossed anyone’s mind that maybe Powell endorsed Obama because he’s actually the better candidate!
McCain’s only a heartbeat away from handing over the potential presidency to Sarah Palin. If you don’t see something inherently wrong with that you shouldn’t even vote. Tina Fey would do better in the White House than the self-proclaimed ice queen. I heard Palin say that her house in Alaska is white because of all the snow. So she doesn’t think transitioning into the real White House would be too hard. But, if McCain/Palin do happen to alter the votes and win, a la Bush, how in the hell is her husband gonna continue his professional snowmobiling career out of D.C?!
So given that Bush got re-elected and he is the worst president in U.S history, it gives every president coming after him hope. Obama’s got hope!
-
Colin Powell's endorsement for Obama is huge.
Just watch the new movie "W." and you'll see what kind of person Powell really is. I don't think his portrayal in the movie is completely accurate, but there must be some kind of basis for it.
For those of you who haven't seen the movie or don't know about Powell, he was against the war in Iraq and tried to talk Bush and the rest of the board out of starting a war.

Obama FTW!! :rockit:

Did anyone get this mysterious text message on their cell phone today??
CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE! Obama won! we can renew hope for out future together, look forward to the possibility of universal citizenship as the world is united behind one leader..... we're all living through an unforgeable day in history! get motivated people change is coming!
This is the part that sussed me out. It only further supports my theory that this dude is backed by Illuminati, I did say a very long time ago that he would win without a doubt to serve as a puppet because of his popularity and the fact that hes got muslim/black background. They want to use him as a face to regain falling support for America around the world especially people in the east. But behind the scenes its only going to get worse.
I'm not fooled by this, they can take their global community, one leader and eat a dick.

Agreed, it will get worse. It's funny how all the blacks around here voted for him just cause he's black.

HELL NO! Most of the whites around here were for Obama. However, most blacks I saw haven't even watched any of Obama's speeches. A few weeks ago, at college, I heard this, "Ma homie told me to vote Obama cuz dat dude is da shit!"

Thank you for you contribution to this thread Mikael, you've truely changed my opinion about Obama now!

Close this thread; this is a recipie for disaster. We should either discuss policies or discuss nothing at all. It's worth mentioning the countless people who voted against him because his middle name is Hussain or because he's black. If we are going to discuss the matter, let's discuss his economic stimulus plan.
We shouldn't be putting Obama on a pedastal, or worshiping the man like a Messiah. It's going to take a lot to turn this country "around" and help the economy off the ground. Barack Obama is one of the most intelligent politicians that I've every heard speak; regardless of whether or not your "black friends" vote for him without listening. That is irrelevant to the fact that Obama has the potential to be a great president.
A lot of McCain supporters claim Obama has no experience, yet they fully support the "educated and experienced" Sarah Palin. How many evangelical Christians voted for Palin just because of her "homey" personality? Lots. But how many of those people have seen her inability to answer even the simplest questions?
The downfall of the Republican party was the negativity of the campaign. I didn't once hear Obama's camapaign refer to the Keating 5 (not to say his campaign didn't display negativity; it did. Just not to the personal "background" level that McCain's did). The references of Obama's "palling around" with terrorists and "socialist agenda" [ and then proceeded to vote for a socialist-eque bailout ] seemed to be more of an issue to the man who was quoted saying that our "economy is in good standing." More people are concerned with Obama's middle name than his or McCain's economic stimulus plan.
Joe the Plumber seemed to be the center of attention for Republicans, although he himself admitted that he wouldn't even be affected by Obama's tax plan. Another thing to point out is that "In other words, 98.1 percent of small-business filers have income too low to be subject to either of the top two tax rates.......By contrast, a substantial percentage of filers with small-business income are in the lowest tax brackets." (http://www.cbpp.org/8-29-08tax.htm).
Obama's healthcare and education plan brings about other questions. This "universal" notion that many are hinting at is actually not the case. If you already have a healthcare provider, you will keep your healthcare provider. I support for things that affect my life; I do not have healthcare, nor have I ever (besides the government based Medicaid, which barely allowed me to get a physical exam for high school sports :saywhat:). How will a reform in healthcare benefit society, or not benefit it? These are the questions that Americans need to be discussing. I wouldn't see a problem in getting healthcare from my government, but is it going to be the same bullshit that was offered to me before? From a man who had to witness his mother die of cancer because insurance companies had issues with paperwork, I think it is time that we set a new plan in motion. The saying goes "if it ain't broke don't fix it." But I can assure you that the healthcare and educational systems are broken.
Please, put the racial and conspiracy nonsence aside. There were consiperacies about Bush blowing up the towers, like there will be about Obama being part of al-queada.
How about we talk capital gain taxes, estate taxes, immigration, and the issues that matter the most will be put forth by President Barack Hussain Obama.

Dude, I'm not saying EVERYONE, I'm saying MOST of the people THAT I SAW.
What I am saying is: Black people voted for him because he is black. I'm sure there are blacks who voted for McCain but I haven't seen any.
On topic: I think this election was shit, none of the candidates were good. However, both of them are better than Bush!
-
true that many blacks voted soley on the basis of obama's skin color. it depends where you live on who the whites voted for. where mikael ives is much more liberal than where i live. where i live i was a minority supporter of obama. most people were voting for mccain. i'm happy with the results, and i think obama will do a good job. like mikael said though both were much better than bush.
-
this shouldnt be about race and it wasnt. it was about the beter candidate. if i was in USA i would of voted 4 obama too. he seems to be more down to earth and more with the country.
-
Well said Elite...
Mikael, how can you say that Obama was not a good candidate? He is about as complete as it gets.
I am very happy with the outcome. People now need to get behind Obama even if they are republican. You can't hate on a guy as good as him. It also seems that Obama helped bring the young group and the minorities to the polls. It's nice to see such a turnout of around 90%.
-
Don't mind Mikael has got other agendas.

He was a better choice than McCain, but he's far from "perfect".
A candidate shouldn't make SUCH mistakes as this:
-
wat u got against the man?
at least he is better then Palin lol
man elite wrote a whol essay
-
He is, but he's been lying way too much.
-
look on the bright side,
he is black :3some:
-
That would be the dark side.
-
plz stop the black comments, there not amusing at all. the race is african-american(to my knowledge) and ppl should use this to avoid other ppl getting offended.

haha classic american geographical mistakes.

The United States of America do not have 57 states, that's what's wrong.
He meant to say 47
-
misstakes happens
palin thought that Africa was a country and that is worse
-
Palin also couldn't name a single newspaper she read, she also claimed her foreign policy was better than Bidens beacuse she could see the boarder of Russia from her house.
-
I guess sarah palin could go into the porn industry now. :3some:
They are making a porno called "Nailin Palin."
-
here's the fox news segment about the movie adi mentioned above. quite funny in my opinion. Palin i think may have future in the industry.

it's an ethnic group not a "race." black is an appropriate term. words like n-----, c---, and j-- are not appropriate when directed towards a black person, and depending upon the situation, they are punishable by law
not that races actually exist or anything
appropriate when directed towards a black person
of course, some words now have no other appropriate meaning. words like "coon" do
-
race is the most complicated thing when you start trying to break it down
-
mostly because it doesn't mean a god damned thing
-
dont worry he is black, how do you think he is going to remember how many states they are if he had no education? lol
jokes people take it easy
mostly because it doesn't mean a god damned thing
thats true
do you think it had anything to do with this election?
-
yeah, to obama's benefit, but that's a personal opinion
-
yeah, to obama's benefit, but that's a personal opinion
don't kid yourself. race was huge part of this election. the only reason the race was close at all was the fact the obama is a black man. if he was white, the race would have been a landslide, and we would have known about it for a long time. i support and voted for obama myself. i live in tennessee where i from first hand experience know that many people here mainly voted for mccain, because obama is black. i am ashamed that people think this way, but its the truth.
-
it was more than that. it was a "let's make history" kind of thing. do you think that a person voting against obama on race was voting democratic to begin with? most states that are traditionally republican voted republican and vice versa
$ashville is ass-backwards to you? you don't want to know where i'm from
do i think that it was the ultimate deciding factor in the race? no
on an unrelated note, from the little i watched, this reminded me of kennedy-nixon
-
You where alive Kennedy v Nixon? ;)
-
;)
the worst thing about a presedential term is that you cannot completely evaluate a term until years later
-
You where alive Kennedy v Nixon? ;)
Prolly not, Obama will end like Kennedy though, mark emokid's words! :nopity:
-
yeah, to obama's benefit, but that's a personal opinion
it was cancelled out; too many people voted against him because he is black; you're from the same state as me...you know the same as i do.
-
our state wasn't going to be won regardless. it's a very difficult thing to evaluate
-
Obama better not get assassinated. All kinds of shit would go down if that were to happen.

You can look at that from two perspectives: one is your perspective, the other is that Obama also got a ton of votes from black people that would not have voted otherwise. Also, tons of black people voted for Obama despite being Republican. I don't know what created more votes, but I bet it was pretty damn close. Although Obama earned a lot of votes from black people, he also lost quite a few from racist people. I guess it goes both ways...
Anyone notice how the Republican advisers are just now coming out to bash Palin? I find it hilarious. Only the stubborn really believed that Palin was a good vice-President candidate during the election. Now that it's over, the truth really comes out.
-
mccain choosing pailin was just a desperate attempt to get mad hillary supporters to vote mccain. she probably didn't cost mccain the election, but she sure didn't help him in any way.
-
Although Obama earned a lot of votes from black people, he also lost quite a few from racist people. I guess it goes both ways..
would be nice to see an area by area breakdown. we would also need to know their ultimate deciding factor in voting
-

let's not be silly; i know people from our high school that didn't think he is a suitable president because his name isn't American enough. everyone knows racism exists, lets not act like it doesn't.
my point is that i think the amount of people who voted racistly against him, voted racistly for him.
-
you're missing the point
it's not so cut and dry. even if it was, 1k votes in la =/= 1k votes in penn (EVER. and especially with a potential swing state)
you can say that "i know people in louisiana who voted against obama because he was black." yeah, i'm sure there were people in louisiana who voted against obama because he was black, but how did this affect the outcome of the election? was louisiana going to be won? were these people ever going to vote democratic? etc.
-
my point was never that Obama could win southern states. i never said that if people weren't racist, then obama would've won louisiana.
-
it was cancelled out; too many people voted against him because he is black; you're from the same state as me...you know the same as i do.
my post is something that you must consider. this isn't a direct election. the popular vote does not ultimately determine who enters the white house. this is a multi-variable equation.
however, from a pure bulk number standpoint, obama carried 96 percent of the black vote (up 8 points) with a 2 percent proportional increase of black voter turnout v. total turnout (2 percent more of the total turnout). i would post the white demographic breakdown, but it's even more misleading. i.e. not all black people voted obama because obama is black. there is a almost no polarization of party affiliation among black people in america. thus, you could possibly assume that voters turned out to vote democratic rather than obama. it would be even more misleading to look at the white vote through the "racism" lens as obama carried more of the white vote than kerry did in '04. some assumptions here would tend to discredit the notion that at least some people voted against obama because of his color/ethnicity, and i would certainly agree that that's not the case
i know racism exists, but i think that it's oftentimes overutilized to describe things that may not necessarily boil down to a race v. race problem (going both ways. i was serious when i said "in my opinion." it was/and is just my gut feeling on the election for that specific issue), but again, i don't think that it was the determining factor either way. this race wasn't close (6 percent projected margin in the popular vote. a couple hundred point projected margin in the electoral college). it was a definitive "mandate of the people" for "change"
-
In my opinion
another a huge point which got obama the win is that everyone really hated the buch era, so they didn't want to vote for some one mildly close to him
-

exactly, it is overutilized. that's why it's probably the case that they should stop keeping track of "the black vote" and "the white vote" and using those numbers to describe things.
i think all of those numbers can be misleading, because no one really knows the motives of why a black man decided to vote this year. the increase in percentage makes people think that they are voting black, not democratic.
-
that's why it's probably the case that they should stop keeping track of "the black vote" and "the white vote" and using those numbers to describe things.
no, that's necessary. if people wouldn't be so fucking stupid, it wouldn't be annoying
-
this is true
