When I overlp a forward, and he dribbles into me, how do I keep the play spread out (not bunched up) without taking myself out of the play? Some of the players on my school team don't release the ball early :bang:
-
personally, i'd probably just scream for a little bit. it would really vary by situation. depending upon who it is, i might try to overlap him and move back into the space he created. if he can play that ball across his body, it'd be a pretty dangerous situation. if not, he could play it out wide in the direction that he's facing and the third player could hit you in at an angle.
if they are reasonable guys, i'd talk to them about it
-
well i'm a center midfielder and all i train alot in is at the gym fitness.
but just try not to be scared of the ball and win every header because specially been a center midfilder its about your uper body.
well at least it is to every game i watch and every game i play anyways and also practice a few step overs it does come handy and make sure you can shoot from outside the box.
-
well for most of my football so far when i played in defence if you playing on the wings just make sure to always push them to the wings always face the wing if you get what i mean so they dont have anywhere else to go but i normally wait till they try to over run me and just tacle them its the easiest way but i never played center back so i wont know.
-
Yeah, tell your forwards to make plenty of runs, and distract the defense. Make a move, and take your shot. Make it a low one so you can probably get a rebound out of it, and while your forwards are making runs they can recover the rebound and score.
-
i only played up front a few times like 4 times but you there is lots of different strickers there is the fast ones that will try to over run people and beat them with skill and there is the ones that doesnt like scoring so much and they are there just to assist.
-
Trust me Borg, some people just don't learn...
I am actually playing cetre mid for my school squad, because I played a good game there in our second game so now thats where our coach likes me...but I'm really a winger, although some coaches seem to think they can play me at striker
-
My favorite tip from one defender to another is.... CLOSE YOUR LEGS! haha
Angle your body in such a way that the attacker is forced to dribble AWAY from the pitch (like jcosta71292 said). Forcing a player to the sidelines is a VERY effective maneuver. It's easy too haha.
-
It doesn't always work with a really skilled player, thogh...you might get crossed over, so you've got to push him off the ball once you get him near the touchline
Also if the player is a good crosser of the ball, you might have a problem if you let him run into the corner and don't tackle him before he hits the area around the 18...
-
The best thing to do if you get overlapped would be to get into good places while your ahead of him, if the coach see's your in a good place to get the ball and your team mate doesnt pass the coach can sort this out, :)
-
good thread btw
with ur players are bunching up into ur space after u overlapped them then overlap them again in the other direction. as a defender i personally dont like it because then between me and you there is your other player and my other teammate marking him
-
its all about knowing his strengths and weaknesses, as soon as i figure that (within first 5 min max) i know how im gonna play him and what ill do with him in certain situations. Fast dribbler= let him dribble (but dont let him get by you jsut let him dribble sideways) once, maybe twice to gain confidence, than the third time hold him out onto the wings, he'll realize this is his chance to use his speed and he'll knock it forward. If its far in front of him then hold him off unless shit hits the fan then slide tackle, knock it outta play.
Also a good way to get him(attacker) angry is to pull on his jersey, just in the middle on the game, the more u do it the angrier he'll get and he will eventually tell u to stop it (btw dont do it when the ref is facing you but as ur going up the field or hes backing up) and thats when u can simply ask him "what the _____ r u gonna do about it?" u can be creative as well and u can also threaten him like "watch urself the next time u go for a run" but u have to back it up and do that in the beginning of the game to show him ur here to bust his balls the entire time.
i view being a wide defender or a defender in general as being the dirtiest bastard on the field without the ref noticing.
dont be afraid of any forwards because u r the one that has the harder job of keeping them out while they have to get around u and be rough
ill answer ur q's is u want
-
It doesn't always work with a really skilled player, thogh...you might get crossed over, so you've got to push him off the ball once you get him near the touchline
you position yourself in such a way that he can't. it's a pretty fine line though. too low on him and he has pushed the ball past your forward leg and you have to turn. too high on him and he runs straight by you
be DISCIPLINED and be PHYSICAL. no one likes being pushed around. the bigger he is, the more of your body you can throw into him
diving: if a player simulates a foul successfully, give him something to think about
clearances need to be high and wide. if you can't get it wide, put the ball 60 feet in the air
keep the ball wide and play as a unit. it's easier with 4 people than it is with one. if you're playing a good team, you're going to see a lot of movement. keep your unit together
no one should have a free ball around or in the 18. know where the box is and if necessary stop the play immediately
-
For those of you forcing your opponents to the touchline...
In college and club soccer I've always been told to force the player to the middle where the rest of your team mates are. This gives you support in the middle and doesn't allow the player to go down the line for a cross. If the player gets ahead of you down the line, you can be in a lot of trouble with nobody behind you. Your team mates have to be aware of your positioning though. They have to position themselves a bit behind you so they can prevent the through ball and close down the player fast enough in case he steps up.
-
i played out wide (right/left midfielder) for a little bit and was told something very similar. makes sense. of course, i think things would change the closer you would get to the goal the older you are
played all through the center. as a center back i just made a point to get the ball away from the goal (generally wide). as a central midfielder and striker, i just made a point to keep him out of space.
-

i'll never forget that glorious moment.
-
I like scoring; a tip for a forward who likes scoring is always ask for the ball; want the ball, need the ball. In fact, demand the ball sometimes; let your teamates know that you are the guy they have to go to if they want goals (and the only way to prove yourself right is by finishing the chances they give you). Creating your own chances via dribbling is always fun, but sometimes does the team no good when you lose the ball; use good judgement and never stand still. Nothing irks a team more than a lazy forward who doesn't want to move or make productive runs.
to be a good forward stay onsides, finish your chances, and make runs.
-
i try to assist more, and leave the goalscoring up to the fast guy who i play alongside up front....
i come a bit deeper, its good to demand the ball, but dont panic, be composed and keep your head up. If you have a fast partner, then if you are ever in trouble just hit it long and he might run onto it, but one thing is ALWAYS be relaxed on the ball and look for the right pass...
i try too many tricks sometimes it infuriates my team mates like ill try a rabona at the half way line LMAO
anywayz hope it helps
-
-
Know wtf you're gonna do with ball once you have possession - think fast. At most times you retain possession in your final third.... y'aint got all day to figure out what to do. Talk your ass off too to ensure you get passing options. It's a massive pain in the ass when you bust your balls gettin the ball from wannabe C.Ronaldo and have no options haha.
-
thats bad advice jordan because any good attacking player will notice you jabbing at them and will use their speed/dribbling abilities to get by u and because u have lunged into him u are set on the back foot and now its catch-up time
theres nothing wrong with slide tackles, you just have to be good at them and know how to actually do it successfully, most people dont. If u have to then u have to but ur right its best to stay on ur feet when defending seeing as the slide tackle is last straw usually
-
jockey him/her and force them to the sidelines where they have to try to pull a move or make a bad pass to switch the field. never focus on ther moves, just the ball.
-
what if you push him/her out wide and then they delightfully chip the ball over u and the u realize that they are very good at 10m sprints\
it all depends on the striker's style and you have to adapt to it
u cant play all strikers as the same because they all play differently
-
what if you push him/her out wide and then they delightfully chip the ball over u and the u realize that they are very good at 10m sprints\
You should never let the ball and the player get around you. One of them has to go down.

damn I'd hate playing on Adi...I always pop the ball over or roulette :cursing:
He'd injure me for sure
-
i train lots of different ground moves everyday because i have some good right back in my league and they normally figure out your style really easily so the 1st thing i do is to try and beat them on pace and then next time i will try skill and i just keep switching them around because most of the time the defenders predict the wrong thing when you use different tecniques

I play as a center back on our men's league team now. Only 1 goal against us in 2 games. Before that, we would average about 3 against per game. Go on, ask your questions... free tips from the legendary center back. You may call me the new Beckenbauer.

bitch then I'm fucking Garrincha
on a serious note: Adi, do you know of any liberal arts colleges (amherst, reed, swarthmore, haverford, etc...) that have decent soccer teams...it might factor into my decision on where to apply...especially if this winter season pans out and I do well playing a year up...
-
i play as a center back and i think sules idea is perfect,
when i face a fast attacker i usually just give a nudge to put them of balance,
if they go beside you puch their chest i slows them down and gives you time to turn and run after them, i think my one weakness i my reaction time i react late when they pass me like that, the little puch gives me an advantage and refs never notice it

Sorry man, not sure if I know of any. I mainly looked for schools in Texas and I don't think any of them are good liberal arts schools.

your first few lines are tottaly correct. when i go upfront i preffer to set up rather then score.
-
always always always run to where the ball will land in the penalty box, even if the GK is gonna save. there will always be rebounds. i scored so many times to this, Inzaghi always do it.
-
make diagonal runs
forwards who can't keep their runs on an angle = :bang:
-

Good point. Also, make some runs towards your midfielders and show for the ball facing your midfield. Shield off the defender and play a quick ball back or look to turn quickly and shoot. It's best when you have one forward making diagonal runs and another who comes to the ball. When both run long, it's really annoying for the midfield.
-
on Adi's point he's more or less saying that if u know ur striking partner is faster than you than u can drop in behind to play a 1-1up front instead of a flat 2.
either way u can drop to be the man connecting the mid and the forwards.
-
true
ot he could cherry pick?
-
yea but it depends on what u like more/what ur better at
-
true
i'm starting to respect you, you will soon enter moby's circle of close friends :hello:
what if your not so fast and want to be stricker, i have pretty good skill and great control, any tips
-
watch van nistelrooy
lol best advice u can get
and when u say ur not fast is that like 10m sprint or 90min game?
-
Alan Shearer, Ronaldo; the best two forwards to watch for examples
-
if yuo wanna be an all out goalscorer, here's a tip from malcolm macdonald.
get it, turn, shoot.
be the most selfish bastard you can possibly be. and in the end, u'll either be a hero for scoring, or a villain for missed opportunities.
but as MJ said, u miss 100% of the shots u don't take.
-
for central players, OWN the pitch. make sure everyone knows that ur there. bump into players, get physical (but don't foul lol). get the ball, control possession, learn to spread it around. futsal is good practice for this for movement, passing, and ball control.

also don't just play through balls...I hat center mids who do that
play the ball wide to the wingers and then support them
-
get physical (but don't foul lol)
there's a time and place for that too
-

oh yea the professional fouls.... i understand why that's useful but i never really liked it personally. i just think it's like cheating.

if you're on the receiving end, it's frustrating, but they aren't going to go away. it's just one of those little nuances of the game
it doesn't have to be a professional foul though. a hard knock can set the tempo for the rest of the game. it throws people off

that's not a necessary prerequesite for being a striker
just play quickly. you can be slow and not miss a beat. the ability to play quickly is what separates an elite player from an average one
e.g. teddy sheringham, dennis bergkamp
-
You gotta be cold blooded in front of goal keep your composure and finish its too easy. Alot of quality players do the hard stuff and find it hard to score in the end because they lack that instinct.
-
Are you big? If you are, you could be a target man.
-
i don't think he's very big (judging from the member's picture thread), but i could be mistaken
-
i have very good stamina but my speed compared to other is not so good.
i doubt i have any compuser, i just really snatch at chances.
i'm not really that hogging person, i would prefer to assist then score
i think i might stay as a defender
-
superior position hahahah lol
at our club every one wants to play wing, luckly we have this really good CM, he a true killer,
calm on the ball and never hogs
-
Are you big? If you are, you could be a target man.
I'm big where it counts baby. Would you like to inspect. ;)

no need to double post we get your point,
maybe raise the topic to your coach :dontknow:
-
as an experienced midfielder i want to say that one of the most important things for a midfielder is having stamina. especially at the end of a match it can bring you the win because you are still able to defend and attack, while your direct opponent is just following making as few metres as possible
-

haha season is over and we sucked :cursing:
@ Sule: we should make a rule about not stating the obvious. 'Cause that was definitely stating the obvious.
so new rule: no stating the obvious
the conclusions that we can draw from this new rule are: stating the obvious is frowned upon and therefore bad
Furthermore, when the obvious is stated, it transgresses with the rule.
When this rule is broken, you have stated the obvious.
And I have definitely not stated the obvious even once throughout this entire post

we had a friendly and i was a defender at the 75 minute mark i was out
couldn't take another step

had you not played in forever?

As mentioned before, you may ask your coach to talk to the team about the issue so that everyone's on the same page.
If that doesn't work, go to the individual players and tell them what you think. Explain yourself and tell them how you can play better. Even better, get the team together after a practice, or just before, and mention the problem to them. Tell them that everyone is part of the problem, and that the problem can be fixed by everyone trying to spread out to make the most use of the pitch. Your coach should have some training sessions or tips for this as well. It's not easy opening up the field, but it is possible if everyone knows their roles and is disciplined enough to play them accordingly.
-
had you not played in forever?
this is the main reason
i'm really fit but our midfeilders really sucked that match and keept giving them the ball
plus they had a really fast stricker so i basically had to sprint after him with every attack.
i almost died man
-
i'm really fit
but not match fit. just keep at it
-
haha lol
thats true
i did really well in our 1.6 km run and got one of the best in the beep test
-
it's interesting how different kinds of stresses affect the body
anyway, start of the season? you'll be fine in a few games. just make sure to take care of your body
-
thanks man
i do become a fatass everyonce in a while and gain a few kilos
but i'll make sure i try to stay fit this time

beep test scores vary because different gyms have different lengths. All I know is that no mater what gym I am in, I break 100 no problem
I think a better indicator would be his mile time

the beep test only goes up to 23 lmao
and the beep test should always be 20 m apart i think. u dont' do it to the lengths of ur gym hahahaha.

wtf? where do you come from lol
for us beep test goes up to 130 or so, and you just run lengths of the gym with the speed gradually increasing
I assume the one you're talking about is constant all out sprinting...

it's the same in all countries, it's the international standard bro. check ur facts before u say anything stupid.
The test involves running continuously between two points that are 20 m apart. These runs are synchronized with a pre-recorded audio tape or CD, which plays beeps at set intervals. As the test proceeds, the interval between each successive beep reduces, forcing the athlete to increase velocity over the course of the test, until it is impossible to keep in sync with the recording.
The recording is typically structured into 23 'levels', each of which lasts around 63 seconds (the shortest level is level 16, lasting 60.45 seconds, the longest is level 2, lasting 67.8 seconds). Usually, the interval of beeps is calculated as requiring a speed at the start of 8.0 km/h, increasing by 0.5 km/h with each level. The progression from one level to the next is signaled by 3 rapid beeps. The highest level attained before failing to keep up is recorded as the score for that test.

not bad...you might want to get it down below 6 minutes
mine is definitely below 5:30, seeing that I ran 5:37 2 years ago while coming off 4 months of inactivity due to a severs ankle sprain
oh owen I thoght you meant number of laps haha
yeah I usually get around 15-16 for beep test, I think, but that is in gym class when nobody wants to push themselves
who gets 23 :saywhat:
-
i knew a couple of people who used to run off the beep test but then again they were gunning for national squad positions in athletics for 200m and 800m  so maybe not really all that surprising but yeah its a real killer of a test. My best is 16.1 when i was in really good shape could probably get just to 15 now.
Just a bit of trivia, premiershp refs have to get atleast 12 on the beep test to be allowed to ref.
-
who gets 23
uncomfirmed: david beckham, lance armstrong, et. al.
-

in terms of fitness, is David Beckham even in the range of Lance Armstrong? lol
-
i don't know. those are just the rumors
-
I think Steve Nash was able to complete it, that's what I heard.
My best ever was around 12 something, but I think I can beat that now.
Did you guys ever try the 12 minute run? You run around a normal sized track for 12 minutes, and see how many laps you can get done.
-
how long is a mile in kms?
how much is a mile in meters?
Borg the for the 12 min run thing i did that in gym class but it was like 1 min walk 2 min's run and i got like 8 laps done

Any advice for getting in to HS soccer as a forwar?
Anyone know what they look for?

Any advice for getting in to HS soccer as a forwar?
Anyone know what they look for?
speed, skill on the ball, good first touch, a good shot, the ability to turn and shoot (ie killer instinct), vision and passing, and work ethic (ie pressuring the ball on offense)
-

be the most selfish fuck u can possibly be.
that's what goalscorers do.
at the end of the day, you are either a hero or a villain.
do this at your own risk.
it's the malcolm macdonald theory.

agreed that you should shoot whenever you have the opportunity, but pass when its the better option or when you cant shoot
-
Yeah, but don't be stupid at the same time. If someone is open and you are under pressure, pass the ball off quickly. It's more important to play smart than selfish and stupid. Coaches are smarter than most of the player on the field. If you do the right things on the field, you will be in their good books.

just make sure you're prepared for the match like you ain't tired/sleepy/sick
you'll need ALL the response you've got
when to react to a pass, how to control the ball from a lob, which direction to shoot in front of the goal etc...
your mind must be calm and awake, or else you'll be hearing noises from everywhere
(memories)
lmfao, I messed up badly once. I was right in front of the goal (we didn't use offsides) and a teammate from far passed the ball
it was rolling to me, but I was looking the other way, the goal keeper was LYING on his back. so all of a sudden I heard HEY!!!! KICK THE BALL!!!! SCORE!!!!
i got the ball, the keeper was still lying down, but noticed me, I stood there for like 10 sec not knowing what to do.
I kicked, the ball just rolled to the keeper's hands while he was STILL on his back
long story short, just have a good night sleep

play with your brain and not with your balls
easiest way to play any position

If I can give everyone one tip, it would be to get in top shape. If your fitness is excellent you will outperform most players on the pitch. Most teenagers are too involved in other things to get in shape. They don't see the benefit in running 2 miles every day when they can hang out with friends, play on video games, chase girl, or drink. This is where the successful soccer players break away from those that will never make it past the high school or club level. If you just go out and run on a regular basis to stay fit, you will be far ahead of most young players.

that is a very good tip.
but it should also be mentioned that intelligence on the pitch and experience and skills count for more than that.
i played a futsal match once with a bunch of older guys. former yeovil player, former swindon player, former everton player, former torquay player, a former fulham player, a former birmingham player, a former stoke city player, and etc.
they ranged in age from late 20s and early 30s up to guys in their 40s and 50s and 60s.
even the gray haired men in their 60s could still out play us because he knew exactly where to be and how to play each passes and shots and etc.

if really really wanna go anywhere in the game then your workrate has to be ahead of everyone else's usually just to get considered for a team
talent is always a nice thing to have as well

not necessarily..one of the best players I've ever known (as in deking the shit out of provincial players good) almost never trained or came to practice...and yet when he was on, nobody could even touch him, it was like everyone else was in a diferent time zone or something....he was something special. The first game I ever played with him he scored 4 goals (we're talking travel team, club fotball) asnd made the other team look like fools.
Another guy I knew was even lazier, but in games, he could be absolutely killer, with sick moves, great speed, and an explosive shot.
Another guy I knew had a ridiculous work rate, played for around 3 teams, and on the field he just didn't get tired....he was consistently brilliant, with fast feet and a ridiculous shot
so yeah it depends
-
usually
i think this is key here. there will always be players that can do whatever the fuck they want. it catches up to most of them

lol
i think thats karma

Nice tip Man!

be the bravest/craziest bastard on the field, willingly to put yourself in pain for the sake of your team/teamates
-
be able to read the game better than anyone. yell out orders to your defenders and organize them well. know your positioning and make the correct decisions and you may never even be forced into one diving save the entire match and still keep a clean sheet, unless the opposition does something spectacular.
be a leader. be the smartest man on the pitch.

to add to that
as a keeper you get to see the full pitch which makes you kinda like a coach you can use your view to help your players coordinate
if theres a man free you can tell your player to drop back and watch out
if your defenders are too back you can tell them to push up and pressure the other team

only tip master the slide tackle

Fuck i've gotten worse
in indoor i lasted one match then i was hoping we lost so i could take a break damn it

I play as a full back or side back. Since 2008 I play in an 18+ league. Most of my opponents are between 25 and 35, so they're usually physically stronger than I am. I usually try to predict their next move and use pace to get between them and the ball. They often make a foul this way.
I only use a slide tackle as a last resort. If you miss your slide tackle, big trouble
-
depends, i never miss a tackle

hah tito i fall into that same category as well

hah tito i fall into that same category as well
i'm to be honest a versatile player
i can play keeper (alright at it but not the best at dives)
anywhere in defense (love tackling)
center mid but preferably Defensive mid (where i dribble alot more and like to to be the center of passing, as in when someone is in trouble i call for the pass and give the ball to a free player and always like to be in free space)
can also play striker but not lone striker (even tho i play a Kevin Davies style role when in attack, hold up the bal nicly and release a play out of no where also love shooting)
but i need to work on my fitness (alittle)

The average age of my team is 19 years. The average age of the teams we play is between 25 and 30 I think. But we usually win matches because we are much more in shape than our opponents.

i can play wide on the wings for midfield, in the middle of midfield, as a stopper/sweeper/CB in the defence, and as a wingback in a dani Alves position type
i usually play the alves/clichy/lahm role

its all about knowing his strengths and weaknesses, as soon as i figure that (within first 5 min max) i know how im gonna play him and what ill do with him in certain situations.
That's brutal. LOL.
At least you know how to play to your strengths.
-
hahaha lol
i didn't even see that post
usually i like to stick with pulling on their arm when they try to take you on or giving them a push as soon as they change direction to pass you. Refs never notice it and damn does it make the player pissed off
-
hey if it works and the ref doesnt see it then PLAY ON
the problem with arm pulling is that some players are really really good at re-enacting slaps/punches in the face so i stopped that after a couple of yellows
another one is on corners/freekicks, actually pull his shorts down from behind, he will usually turn around and start swearing at you but by then he'll be too distracted to go for the ball

another one i like is shoulder tug, like when it's one on one and they quickly run beside you and they are already ahead of you.
so u just tug their shoulder, it slows them down plus they get really pissed off and i never got caught

actually, when I was lining up for a freekick, one defender actually grabbed my groin. The ball came for me, but I was too shocked to do anything about it, and even if I had wanted to, I wouldn't have been able to move without some SERIOUS pain. The dude was just standing there grinning with me. I got sooooo angry, but I knew I couldn't vent because nobody had seen it and my coach was already pissed at me for not capitalizing on that freekick deflection. And I couldn't very well tell him that the defender grabbed my....you know....
fucking prick
Sule if you ever do that I'm gonna personally come to wherever you live and bitchslap you repeatedly
-
if you and him are running away from the ref (as in opposite direction) all the ref will look for is elbows or arms in the face. This = a perfect time to utilise Plan Piss Off complainer
Step 1: COntinue your run for the ball as you battle with him/her
Step 2a:Grab shoulder and use as momentum to throw you forward and him backwards
Step 2b:Tug his jersey out of his shorts (only works if its tucked in)
and today i got away with ripping the forwards jersey(the hole were you put your head through it). Was pretty funny cuz i did it in front of his coach and the kid was mad or anything. He was just in like an utter state of shock and confusion (we lost 2-0)
and to moby: hey shits happens in the box, like Adraino's punch in the face :)
TBH ive never actually done it but my teammates have and its fairly entertaining

The best midfielder tip ever: don't stop running. Just during stoppages.
-
Look for free space
Always be open
Don't do so much running let the ball do the running (the ball never gets tired)
Make sure you work on your first touch (more of an striker thing but useful)

Start putting on alot of weight so you cover up the whole goal.
-
Even though im a striker, i love playing in goals, and im actually a pretty decent keeper... i think the most important attirbute is decision making... knowing whether to come out, narrow the angle, come for a cross, and when to dive... this is the most important... mess up one of these decisions and its likely a goal could result from it
-
Know where you can play the ball to before you receive it.
-
be confident i realized and always look like ur in control/things are going as planned
-
smile for the cameras
-
well i'm tired of CB so i'm starting the new season as a LB, dont like RB for some reason
any tips guys?
especially sule since you play there
-
I play as LB and RB
I think you really have to be on your toes, the right side usually has a really effing fast dribbler (from my experiences)
just really mark and cover your side properly. if you're good at sliding (like me :pimp:) then that's really useful
try playing like lahm, I love playing like him, tough as f!@# but fast as f!@# too
-
remember to drop when you're playing zone defense
if the through ball goes down the line the drop into the CB's position seeing as he should be going for the ball
to pass always look wing/inside/back(to CB)
keep it simple
Dont be afraid to go for a run
when u push up talk to ur teammates to let them know there's a gap at LB/RB so that they can drop in behind for you
be physical, dont overdo it too early tho cuz then the ref will be watching u carefully for the rest of the match
be willing to slide tackle
all i can think of atm

*= if ball is on the other side of the field(left side we'll say), as a RB, you should drop inside so that ur closer to the CB or at least make the back line staggered so that long balls wont have any effect
-
i love going for runs, but my coach is a dick head, he always tells me to come back,
how often should i drop in behind the CB? just when there is an attack in the middle of the ground?

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/2909/flatfourzone.jpg
kind of like that. a straight four-four-two is misleading on paper. you're always looking to give depth (all over the field, not just in the back). if not, you'd be cut to pieces. my graphic sucks, though (google whatever you're playing--i would imagine a 4-4-2. there should be some info out there). if the ball is in any other zone, you need to pull in to varying degrees. of course, if that's not the system you run, then you'll do something else. your coach should go over it
-

i usually like to drop in behind the CB when the ball is on the other side of the field and if the striker is fast. When you drop back call out to let ur CB's know what ur doing so that they dont try to pull an offside trap. If the attack is coming in from the middle just be aware of where their attackers/wingers are and dont commit.
RB+ RCB+
LCB+
LB+
=this is usually what it looks like for my team when they're attacking our RB

Sule's pic is just confusing
so basically just judge when appropriate
ok when i go for a run should i cut in with the ball or always down the wing?
-
Moby give these amateurs some real tips
-
so basically just judge when appropriate
if your rcb moves in behind your rb, you need to push your lcb closer to where your rcb normally would be, and you need to pull in towards the center of the field. the very few times that i've had to play in the back, we've had tactical "walkthroughs" in practice to address shit like this. i would imagine that you would do something similar
of course, as a defender, you aren't isolated. you should receive help. just communicate and use your discretion
ok when i go for a run should i cut in with the ball or always down the wing?
depends upon your team and what the other team gives you. don't have a one track mind. your coach should give you an idea of what he wants you to do
let's say you're right footed playing on the left and can shoot from distance. if it's there, cut in and take a shot from time to time. say you have a striker who has been destroying the other team in the air. if you can get down the line, look to get there and center the ball in the air.
if it's not there, don't bother to force it.
-
Sule's pic is just confusing

plaxico is right, dont force the play, if it isnt working then keep it simple
otherwise its all about what ur more comfortable, when u cut inside there's usually a large mess in the middle and more players while on the wing its more 1-1
again, whatever you prefer, i myself am a bigger fan of cutting inside and shooting or playing a 1-2 with my wide guy (down the line or inside)
-
i've had two game as LB and i usually pass to the CM run around the winger and get a through ball from the CM, we have a crazy CM
BTW plaxio our coach does not know anything
all we do is run like motherfuckers the whole training session

that's like better than the coach of my city's team...
almost EVERY training session, he brings the lads to the pitch. know what they do?
push ups. sit ups.
they don't even get to touch a ball
after that they just go home...
and he also does this with the little kids... they don't even have proper touch of a football! and he lets them do push ups and sit ups????
:saywhat:
-
haha lol
our coach is the worst
i seriously love LB now, i dont know why, i just feel at home on the left, do you guys get this in other positions?
like i cant even play on the right i feel weird
-
i feel comfortable on both sides but im also a fan of the DM position even if i rarely play it
-
i was born to be a DM but we have too much midfeilders which means i would have to go on bench which i hate, i just cant stand sitting there while everyone else is playing so i went LB
-
i play both midfeild and forward, mostly forward. i am deffanetly a faster player. i always look for threwballs and i seem to rarly get them, wen i play mid i try to send alot of threwballs and put it into the corners, it works but not great.
-
Thanks for the tips, OP!

I good tip for forwards: try to score some goals, so you don't end up playing right back.
-
make sure you shoot at the other teams goal, never shoot the ball into your own goal, its bad mistake alot of people make

On a serious note, what does everyone think about strikers who place the ball in between the keepers legs when going one-on-one? Think it's intentional just about every time? I think it's a great way to score but you'd think they'd play it around the keeper rather than through the legs.
-
They do that because the keeper is supposed to come out with his arms and legs spread so if everything is spread out theyre taking alot of space.
So you either pop it over him or slide it underneath
..for breakaways that is

this is great post

i play defensive mid and one problem i have is every time i control the ball it always seems to still bounce
and then i have trouble playing the pass or throughball or taking someone on because the ball is still bouncing
and i even noticed that when i play indoor, i play much better when the ball is on the ground cus i usually play 5 a side and we always keep it on the ground
so is this my fault that i'm not controlling it properly or do other ppl have this problem
-
It's probably your fault... or the surface is just bad which causes the ball to bounce when it should drop dead. We played on a pitch this weekend where the ball bounced non-stop, no matter how good your touch was. If the surface is good, then you need to work on your first touch a bit more. Try "cushioning" the ball when it's about to hit your foot... pull your foot back with the ball as it hits it... it'll soften the contact with the ball for a better touch. Confidence is obviously the other thing...
-
Modern football does have the position but nothing is concrete. Otherwise a defender never get goals. For complete football players always change positions.
-
TIPS for strikers:
prefer short passes instead of long passes.because short passes can setup goals easily for your strike partner

Most likely, you need to make sure your 1st touch is good and make a good 2nd touch to make sure the ball is settled. You can also make this touch directional towards whatever play you are going to make next.
We need to bring this thread back. No one is posting on it.

We need people to ask for advice.

COACHING POINTS:
1. This is a great game to teach zonal defending, especially for midfielders. Work on the defenders attempting to keep their ‘shape’. They should not ‘chase’ the pass, but instead, should stay in their zones and defend as a unit.
2. Make sure that the person who is defending the ball calls out that they have it. A simple ‘BALL’, will often send a clear message to the player’s teammates that they have taken this responsibility.
3. Make sure that the defenders are never ‘flat’ across the field. This makes it too easy for the attacking team to split them with a pass. The player taking the ball should step towards the ball, while the other defenders ‘tuck-in’ behind that player, as shown in the diagram.
4. If the defending team as a unit can step up and get close to the attackers, that is good. However, if they can not get good pressure on the ball, they need to ‘drop back’ and not let a pass get through them. http://www.profitsinsoccer.tips/
5. Work hard on the moments of transition. If the defending team intercepts a ball, they must get spread out so that they can keep the ball and attempt to get out of the grid. Similarly, of the attacking team’s pass is intercepted, they immediately come in to defend… putting good pressure on the ball.
