CITY 'OFFERED BLANK CHEQUE FOR RUUD'

Real Madrid reportedly turned down a "blank cheque" from Manchester City for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Blues eventually shelled out £32.5million for Real's Brazilian striker Robinho following Monday's shock takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group.

But before sealing that deal Spanish daily Marca claims Real had rejected an even more staggering offer for another Bernabeu superstar - Dutch striker van Nistelrooy.

The paper claims when City were told van Nistelrooy wasn't for sale they came back with a huge bid that was rejected.

Then, in a final attempt to land the former Manchester United star, they reportedly offered Madrid a blank cheque and told them to name their price for van Nistelrooy. But once again, Madrid refused.

It's the latest bizarre rumour to come out of Monday's deadline-day frenzy, which was kicked off by that City takeover.

As well as landing Robinho the Blues also tabled a British-record transfer bid for Dimitar Berbatov and were also linked with the likes of David Villa.

All I can say is, wow.

They are retarded.

It might work but it's not fair to the rest of the teams. FIFA needs to sort this out before it gets any worse. Teams like Bayern who gradually build up their value and raise funds through trophies, not other millionaires, are starting to turn into second tier clubs while these shit average teams are rapidly rising simply because of rich owners. This is not the way the game was meant to be managed.

That was still different. They were able to get to that financial stability by playing successful soccer. They won trophies and eventual became a rich club. When they bought a player like Beckham for millions, they were able to make up the transfer money lost on him in a matter of weeks.

It's different when a big team buys big players because they have "earned" that money. Man City didn't earn shit. They were dropped a bag of millions of dollars on their lap overnight.

Exactly, you win money by winning competition and games. You sell out crowds and whatnot.

Like the FA Cup, you win games, you win money, you build your team.

EDIT:

Taken this off ManUtd.com:

Sheikh's £500m City dream team
Six of the best football players in the world are all targets of the multi-billionaire Arab sheikhs who have bought Manchester’s “second” club. The Blues have already captured Real Madrid’s Brazilian superstar Robinho for £32.5million. Now consortium frontman Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim says he is willing to pay £134million to wrest Cristiano Ronaldo away from arch-rivals Man United. City’s manager Mark Hughes has also been told he can bid £80million each for AC Milan’s Brazilian hitman Kaka and Barcelona's attacking midfielder Lionel Messi. Liverpool’s Spanish goal machine Fernando Torres and Arsenal playmaker Cesc Fabregas will be chased as soon as soccer’s next transfer window opens in January, with price tags of £70million and £60million respectively. And there will be a renewed bid of £60million for striker Dimitar Berbatov - who only signed for Man United on Monday night.

I don't see why anyone is complaining at all...did you forget we all live on the same earth?

i go to school with kids who have thier parents money up the ass; there are many people on earth that live off of thier parents success and money...why would you think this to be any different? It's the same thing. A team gets lucky and has some rich ass people buy the club...that's just the way it is.

i do, however, think its rediculous that all of these "takeover" shits are occuring; not because of the level of wealth the people are, but just because it's happening way too often now.

Haha, you must have no respect for the game if you think it's right.

For those of us who play Football Manager, Man City might be the next dream team to play with. It'd be extra nice to have an unlimited budget.

It's really not jelousy. I could care less as a Bayern supporter. If Man City cracks the top four it will just be more fun for me to watch the Premiership.

It's annoying more than anything though. I don't like seeing the game change this way.

It's annoying as hell to see this.

Still backing up my prediction that no one other than Robinho will sign.

I'm not good with this stuff but isn't the transfer window closed..?
Title: Re: Man City Hands out Blank Cheque
Post by: Adi on Sep 08, 2008, 01:50: PM
Yeah it is closed. However, teams can still accept offers and players can agree to sign contracts with other teams. They are then able to switch teams when the next transfer windows opens (winter break).

100% agree Adi. The game has got stupid. The passion and tradition in the game is disappearing.

Bayern's Rummenige said that he wants the German league to set up a meeting to relax the tight ownership rules in the Bundesliga. He's claiming that Germany is loosing out to England and other leagues because of the strict rules set for owners. Sucks that it has come to this.

Title: Re: Man City Hands out Blank Cheque
Post by: Tito on Sep 16, 2008, 09:25: AM
i think this will effect the England National squad the most
seeing that alot of foreigners will play their trade at the EPL good for the league yeah but what about the youth squad the players won't get much chances
for example if Man City sign Kaka, Buffon etc
player like Micheal Johnson won't get to play and Man City have produced many good players eg. Ireland, Richards, Hart, Onuoa, Stugride etc
Its over for the NATIONAL squad if all the teams have foreign players

as you can see the top countries that continuously preform are those that have majority of their top division filled with players of their country
example: Brazil; the league is mainly Brazilian players and look at the players they produce, same with Argentina, Spain, Itay, Germany, Holland.

Soon you'll see England without upto 3 British starter in any team in the EPL and no British coaches, no owners and even the league changes names the possibilities are endless

not its pretty funny. I'm saying this while sitting in Canada, watching my soccer team be shit because of an imported lob-and-run style of soccer that originated in Britain and was only changed by the influx of foreign talent.

The United States and Honduras; both which are doing fine developing thier players, thank you.

Germany had a huge developmental problem until recently. The league started buying up foreign players and the national team relied too much on the liked of Klinsmann, Muller, Mattheus, Sammer, Bierhoff, etc. There was not enough youth development to make up for the start players when they leave. That's why Germany struggled so much to find talent.

Now there are plenty of young German players who are looking promising. England has some good youth as well, but once the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, etc. leave there might be a gap especially if the young players are not getting the chance to develop at club level. It's a real issue that needs to be addressed.

i totally agree i'm not 100% english but i totally agreee about foreign players playing in clubs in england and its forcing english players and youngters because clubs can just get a foreign player better then the current english youth player in less then 10 mins if they want to.

it's a dog eat dog world, only the strong survive. from a business and coaching standpoint, why use a youth player when you can get a better player? clubs don't care about national teams, nor should they.

I think they should, no matter what country, the clubs should still want to improve the nation game.
