Some key games:

Liechtenstein 0 - Germany 6
Malta 0 - Portugal 4
Argentina 1 - 1 Paraguay
Wales 1 - 0 Azerbaijan (Go Chunk!)
Spain 1 - 0 Bosnia
Andorra 0 - 2 England
Croatia 3 - 0 Kazakhstan
Austria 3 - 1 France
Cyprus 1 - 2 Italy

How disappointed for me to see my nation lose to my friend's nation like that.  :bang:

Podolski looked good for Germany once again, while Klose continued to struggle. He can't score off one on ones anymore. Finishing and heading were his specialties only a year ago. I think it's time for Bayern to give Podolski the starting spot for a few games. It's worth the risk. I'd much rather risk upsetting Klose than Podolski right now. A 30+ year has nothing on a 24 year old for me, especially when the younger player is playing better.

Spain beat Bosnia 1-0. I expected worse to be honest. The goal Spain scored was offside by the way. Villa did fantastic to finish from a tight angle though. We were dominated but Spain couldn't create enough clear-cut chances from the possession.

I can't believe nobody is making anything of the France loss to Austria. How embarassing. I know Austria is an improving side, but what the hell is France doing. They are lucky they're getting Ribery back soon.

Italy was also lucky to get full points. They had to rely on Di Natale's second goal in injury time to win the game. Scotland also had a disappointing day as they lost to Macedonia. You figured they'd pick up where they left off during the EURO qualifiers.

Canada is currently losing to Honduras 2-1 in the 75th minute. Ramon Nunez scored for Honduras. Nice for him.

Please post a video of the goal if you don't mind.

Croatia vs. England will be good. England has a good chance for revenge. If they can't get hyped up for that game then they're shit.

Is the game played in Croatia or England?

Norway plays really bad football. I'll surprise me if they qualify but if they do, they don't have anything to do there.

Åge Hareide is a really bad coach that simply doesn't have knowlegde about football (not enough). If Norway ever will be a good team, they need a better coach, and more player types.

agreed
it wasnt a red card and when a team goes 1 goal and 1 man down to England the game lost all interest and Croatia didnt care at the point

4 was a bit much but then again none of our players played well and we overall played poorly, very.

Hard to say this but England played better MAINLY because of Walcott's speed.
BTW the first goal sucked for Croatia as well seeing as it was an attempted clearence that bounced off of R.Kovac's back which then fell into Walcott's path

oh well see you at Wembly

Didn't expect England to win so comfortably. The win should do a lot for their confidence.

Bosnia won 7-0! I know Estonia is nothing special but 7-0 is still something to be proud of. Hopefully we can build on this.

And yes, how did Switzerland manage to lose to Luxemburg. Was this Hitzfeld's (former Bayern coach) first game in charge? If so, what a nightmare! :saywhat:

your other defender shud of had a second yellow anyway, the other player did lean in with his elbow, but i dont think he had to much intent.... the game was a bit easy for us though..... wot happened to croatia....or maybe we just had a bad mananger before

Brazil has serious problems. I don't know how Dunga still has a job. He has done absolutely nothing with that national team. He's made questionable call ups trying to shake things up, but in all honestly, I think he has disrupted the team.

They need a new manager who can let Brazil play the effective way. Dunga is trying to implement too much shit from European teams who play conservative. Since when has Brazil played two defensive mids at the same time? Give me a break... piss off Dunga before you make Brazil the second England.
Title: Re: World Cup Qualifications Thread
Post by: ^_^ on Sep 20, 2008, 02:17: AM
Yeah; Dunga definitely tried to revolutionize the squad with youth and non-big name players. But, they did win the Copa America, so I'll prop him off for that. I think they are what 2 or 3 in CONMEBOL right now? But with the talent Brasil has, they should always be 1.
Title: Re: World Cup Qualifications Thread
Post by: Adi on Sep 20, 2008, 07:11: AM
Winning the Copa America is not going to be enough for them. They have to be in the semi or final of the World Cup with their amount of talent.
Title: Re: World Cup Qualifications Thread
Post by: ^_^ on Sep 20, 2008, 07:45: AM
Oh no, I know that. Honestly with thier talent Brasil should always at least be in the quarterfinals of the WC, and I mean at least. They have no choice but to make the final in 2010.
Title: Re: World Cup Qualifications Thread
Post by: Sule on Sep 20, 2008, 11:15: AM
actually they do have a choice

teams get better and others get worse

ex. Leeds used to be an amazing club and every1 loved them until they started losing and they had to sell alotta their players
ex2.Hungary (long time ago yes i know but still) used to be one of the elites of football until they lost and few players and they went downhill from there, look at 'em now
Title: Re: World Cup Qualifications Thread

Haha, I was about to reply with the same thing. Huge miss by the guy who made his debut though!

Germany killed Russia in the first half and deservedly went up 2-0. Russia was a completely different team in the second half though, and we scraped by 2-1.

Brazil 4 - 0 Venezuela

Kaká (5)
Robinho (9)
Adriano (19)
Robinho (66)

Now that's more like it from Brazil.  Very typical scorers and that's how it should be.  You need good performances like that from your best.  Only Ronaldinho is missing, but that's because he wasn't called up.

There are still some questionable players in their line up though:

Kleber, Gilberto Silva, and Josue.  Mancini and Daniel Alves started on the bench.

Great win from Brasil; last time around in a friendly Venezuela beat them :booty:

Adriano is slowly coming back to a confident striker. I'd like to see Anderson playing that role Gilberto is playing though (didn't see the game so i'm not sure how they lined up though).

You think Anderson can play as a defensive midfielder? Am I misunderstanding something?

------------------------------------------------

Germany won a close one against Wales. Germany had most of the possession and shots but couldn't score.

Rooney got another 2 goals.  :saywhat:

Bosnia beat Armenia! Belgium and Turkey both dropped points which is perfect for us.  We are now only 1 point out of 3rd and 2 out of 2nd.

No, you aren't misunderstanding. Anderson is an animal; i've seen him slotted in that role when Brasil played Mexico in the Copa America; he locked people down. I've also seen him play as a more attack minded midfielder, but his leading trait, to me, is his strength. He's a physical, dirty, hardhitting player.

I know he has a tough side to him but that's not enough to play him there at the top level. It's going to take much more than that to play that role. Hell, if some members on here don't think Essien is cut out to be the defensive mid for Chelsea, how in the world can Anderson play as the defensive mid for Brazil?

I think he can play the center mid position, but not defensive mid. It takes more discipline and even better defensive ability. If you don't have the defensive ability (Pirlo) you have to be outrageous with your passing ability. He doesn't have either. He's more of a dribbler and all around player.

maybe i havn't seen enough of him; i have just happened to catch glimpses of him killing people in the center of the field.

me too cant wait.

nobody likes england because everybody thinks that they are soo good yet they lose soo many times

hit the nail on the head
on sky sports news theyre already talking shit like "Capello faces a gaolkeeper problem, who should he pick in the world cup that can take us past the quarter-finals, to where we deserve..."
firsty, your not atually IN the world cup yet... u guys made tis mistake for euro 2008 but do u learn? no..
secondly, why the fuck do england "deserve" to go past the quarter finals? you only deserve to go wherever u actually make it as far as... and as of yet they havent qualified so stop talking about winning the world cup... the problem is that they over-rate their own players..
Terry is good not "world class", Ronaldinho, Crisitiano Ronaldo and even Dimitar Berbatov from his spurs days have literally fuckin destroyed him on occasions. Gareth barry? ok..., Gerrard and Lampard cant play together, and Rooney isnt really a finisher (although hes playing well at the moment)

anywayz Ireland are doin pretty well, we are fuckin shit but it looks like Trappattoni has gotten us a little more organized so maybe we can get a nil-nil with Italy home and away, and beat bulgaria at home, and make 2nd place

Firstly, just because one person has said this doesn't mean the whole country thinks it, I don't think we automatically deserve to get past the quarters, though I do think we should be doing.
Secondly, you don't have to watch SSN, you can watch your Irish Setanta.

I find it odd that as English, we support the other home nations and want them to do well (even if some of us don't like you), yet they all want England to lose. But meh whatever you get used to it and they usually do worse than England anyway.

firstly, setanta news is british shit as well...
unfortunately we aint got a good sports new station
so we have to make do with SSN, which is good, except for over-hyping an average england team..
see the reason england want other home nations to do well is weird... why do u guys want us to do well?
Whereas NI, Scotland and wales all fuckin hate england coz theyre essentially owned by them (except for us obviously, little old' 4 M population ireland managed to defeat u guys woohooo)
its true, england are a lot better than us, i dont think otherwise for one minute
but im just saying, lower ur expectations a bit coz u guys end up getting dissapointed every yr

Firstly, I like this firstly, secondary trend lol.
Secondly, it's because we're apart of GB and like when I'm watching the olympics or w/e I'm cheerin' for Britain, not just England, so I still want them to do well in other stuff. Anyway we're small little isles as it is so we should be stciking together

alot of countries suck but its not like Bosnia are disappointing anyone because no one expects much and if they do good it will feel better than a good team winning
unlike the overrated England who always 'underperform'

This is from the team I supports forum, its 'bout the England match, or more so going to watch.

"I was at the game last night. Been to most of the England matches at the new Wembley and the last three tournaments away, but I won’t be going again. I spent the entire game last night wishing it was Town at Hereford. Compare having a beer bought for you by your chairman, to not being able to get one at all inside Wembley, to standing shoulder to shoulder with proper football supporters in an old fashioned tin shed, to being trapped in a soulless stadium among an unpleasant mix of uninformed pre-pubescent girls and moronic ageing hooligans who think that just because a few Ukrainians pipe up during the minute’s silence, that it is ok for them to holler “shat ap you mags”’ back at them (translation: shut up you mugs). Paid £7.50 for a coffee, a plastic pint glass of bottled water, and a bag of sweets. Final straw for me came with the vitriolic outburst at the referee for booking Rooney for the x-rated tackle which should have had him sent off. I’ll get worked up at a Town game with the best of them, but also I know the game well enough to know when to hold a hand up to the opposition. England fans = morons."

I dint go to the match, but I do know what its like and I know that there tends to be loads of southern spectators and idiots who manage get tickets, where as it should be packed full of real football fans. Tis a shame.

US 2 - 1 Honduras

nice return to the W column after the pretty "predictable" loss in costa rica.  nice return to the 4-4-2 instead of a 4-3-3 experiment on the road against the "second best" team in concacaf.  not so nice return of conor "nationally ranked" casey.  whatever, not his fault

Sweden 0-1 Denmark ..

This was one important game! x') .. the 100th match between the border countries..

Denmark won - aften saving a penalty ..

The goal was a heel xover pass from a swedish player to kahlenberg who scored xD now we are nearly secured a spot in the WC with 16 points ;)

I'm bosnian.  I wasn't trying to talk shit i was just laying down the facts.

The last time I checked, we were sitting in 2nd place... 4 points ahead of Turkey.  If I remember right, Turkey was the team that reached the semi-final of last years EURO.  Not only that but we beat a good Belgium side two times in a row to put us in a great position.  The remaining schedule also gives us Turkey and Spain at home.

And last but not least, we have Dzeko!

Bosnia is on the rise and all European teams take us seriously, so your thoughts don't really matter.  I do have a feeling that you changed your mind about the team since January however.

Misimimovic, Dzeko, Ibisevic, Salihovic, Rahimic, and Pjanic are all great players for us.  We have an excellent midfield and attack.  If we can add one or two more defenders, we will be very good.  Our coach is also a good one as I'm sure you are aware.
