United no doubt.

EDIT:

UNITED EDGE TOWARDS BERBATOV DEAL

Manchester United appear to be winning the battle to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham.

On a crazy day in the north-west, the Bulgarian finally met Sir Alex Ferguson at United's Carrington training complex before heading to Old Trafford for what many people see as the final act in one of the summer's most lengthy transfer sagas.

And news that Berbatov was having a medical with United in Manchester only further fuelled the belief that United were about to get their man.

It has been repeated throughout the day that a fee has still to be agreed between United and Tottenham, and publicly at least Spurs have not even given Berbatov permission to speak with the Old Trafford outfit.

However, it is hard to see how such manoeuvrings can be done without the selling club's consent although nothing can be ruled out - especially with Manchester City so keen to hijack the deal.

It would now appear unlikely Ferguson would fail in a quest that has taken him months to reach this stage.

With Tottenham making no formal statement on discussions with United, it is still assumed there is a £5million difference between what the north London club want and the sum being offered by the Old Trafford outfit.

Various ways of bridging the gap have been mentioned, including making young striker Fraizer Campbell part of the deal.

However, none of this has been confirmed.

What is certain is that City, whose new owners - the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment - are eager to flex their financial muscle and have no such problems.

Spurs have already accepted their £30million offer and it is not beyond the realms of possibility they could hijack the deal.

"I am as stunned and excited by this as the fans are," City boss Mark Hughes told Sky Sports, barely able to take in events of such a tumultuous day himself as he took part in a charity golf day.

High-ranking City officials were not expecting the takeover, let alone bids for Berbatov and David Villa when the day began, so further surprises are possible.

However, having let Louis Saha join Everton, it seems inconceivable Ferguson would miss out on Berbatov now, especially with talks at such a seemingly advanced and involved stage.

BERBATOV LATEST:
Reports now suggest that Dimitar Berbatov is having a medical with Manchester United as this huge transfer saga continues to move at pace.

So just to recap Manchester City have had a bid accepted for Berbatov but it's United and Sir Alex Ferguson that the Bulgarian has reportedly been speaking to.

I believe Berba will sign for totenham , however manchester city have more money to offer for wages, the prospect of the club, and they have the bid accepted , which man united havent, in a bidding war City will win, But i think the main force is player power.

I can see Man City beeing the next chelsea, they have also been linked with Robhinho, David Villa and Mario Gomez

Man City is ahead of Tottenham after this summers transfers. They are played much better and organized football as well.

I still doubt Berbatov would leave to go to Man City. It's gotta be United.

But they also have a warrant out for their arrest in Asia. That situation seems very shady to me. SWP's agent said that SWP almost didn't sign because of the unstable situation with Man City's chairman.

I posted it in another thread:

Though it is still not exactly clear what permission Manchester United had from Tottenham to pursue Berbatov, they were happy enough to show the striker around their Carrington training complex before he underwent a medical tonight.

If Tottenham hasn't agreed on a transfer fee this could get bad with FIFA. :saywhat:

Manchester United are delighted to announce the signing of Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian international striker, 27, has signed a four-year contract after joining from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.

As part of the deal, United striker Fraizer Campbell will spend the rest of the 2008/09 season on loan at White Hart Lane.

Upon becoming a United player, Dimitar told ManUtd.com: "Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours in the years to come."

Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to finally capture the elegant striker and admitted: "This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.

"His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I’m sure he will be a popular player with the fans."

Just goes to show that Sir Alex is capable of anything. You know how long this transfer has been going on for?

Berbatov makes his debut against Liverpool.

You mean he would never be anything if it wasn't for Leverkusen. Trust me, he was just as good in Germany. It's just that nobody talks about the good footballers over there. It's like players only exist in the Premiership these days. If you play good in England, you are good. If you don't, you're a crap player (see Shevchenko case.)

I seen Sheva against Bologna didn't look like the Sheva that played with Milan for 7 years, but he definitely looked much more of a threat and more involved than he did at Chelsea. I think its the different midfielders hes got behind him Seedorf, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Pirlo etc are the type of midfielder that provide well for the striker in front of them. While a Lampard or Ballack would go for it them selves.
