do any of the experienced players get this?
mainly to tito, borg, adi and other players at clubs.
like your to worried your going to lose the ball so you just pass it. i'm kinda good at setting uplike though balls but when the opponet comes at me i kinda panic and sometimes lost the ball. but when i have space and time i do good balls out wide.
is that common for defenders.
-
Yeah I used to be like this but I learned not to care what anyone thinks or has to say and do my own thing. I hate people who yell out pass it or clear it, one its not that easy in some situations also its not the best thing to do in all situations. Personally I hardly play defense any more but when I used to everyone criticized me for trying to dribble my way out of trouble in the defensive third. I like to take the player that hustling me on than when I create some space pass it, run it up or clear it. Some times I loose the ball and probably have to foul the player, get into a stick situation or concede. The problem is learning what to do when to do it. When you get over that you will be more confident and you will see your game improving.
-
Don't panic, just know what you're going to do with the ball before you do it. Be aware of what's around you. It's not a good idea to take people on as a defender. Unless you're an outside back and pushed up in the attack or something. Bit too risky if it's a close game
-
I was a bit nervous since it's only my second year playing, but in my first year, I was named captain, and we won the league, so that built my confidence tons. Now, in my second year, I've been named captain yet again, so my confidence is there. I'm also on the All-Star team, and many of the players were on the team last year, and I'm new to this, so I was nervous. I made some friends and talked to them and figured out their style of play so I'm no longer that nervous.
It just takes time. And if you're scared to do tricks, then talk to your coach and see how he feels about it. Just don't overdo it.
-
everytime you get a chance, take a look around and register everything around you. Don't look at the ball, you know where it is.
Know where your players are, and know what you're gonna do with the ball when you get it.
Don't panic, everytime you're about to shit your pants cos you feel like you don't have no options, just turn around and pass it to a defender/keeper.. and try again.

If you mean natural and instinctively knowing what your going to do next?
'Because I've noticed when I'm thinking about what I'm going to do with the ball while its rolling towards me it leads to some kind of major screw up. Its like every time you have the ball and your headed towards the goal against the keeper only and you 'think' about how your going to finish you almost always miss or lose the ball. I call it finishing before you finish. It happens to everyone. :dontknow:
Looking up and straight away knowing >>> thinking.

it's not natural or instinctive... but u can't be too conscious of what ur doing. thinking too much about things are distractions. u can't focus on what ur doing. and thinking about NOT missing or doing something wrong, gets ur mind thinking about the negative outcomes. since ur subconscious doesn't register negatives.... "don't do this again" will become "do this again" and u'll end up making more mistakes.

unconscious incompetence --> conscious incompetence --> conscious competence --> unconscious competence

It happens to me when I care too much and/or when my coach is cracking down on me. If I'm enjoying myself, then it's not an issue . So the key is, enjoy yourself

I get the same feeling at times in games as a left back. I always feel ill mess up and they'll go on the counter and get an easy one. The thing is in practice im completely relaxed.
Relax - Try to know what situation your in when you get the ball. Knowing where your players are, their players are, the ball, etc. Try to already plan out what you'll do with it before you get it. This makes it alot easier. Dont force anything. This always leads to failure in football. Play simple if your original plan didnt work and keep the ball.
Mess Up - Dont be scared to vision glory. Here and there if you see a relatively good chance to do something nice/great/spectacular, take it because sometimes thats all it takes to win a game. At the same time it could go backwards and make you lose but hey! look how many times top clubs/teams have lost.
Pro's - Never feel bad about what you did. Look at how many times professionals fail or mess up and give the other team a chance. You have to look at it like, "If they can do it, why cant I?"
That's about all that I can come up with right now.. might get some more later
-
fear nothing. being nervous is good but dont be scared. easy things to remember are...
1. know what you want to do before you get the ball
2. first touch is vital
3. rarely should you dribble (if you wach the professionals most of the time they take 2 or more touches)
4. be confident but be smart
5. if you win a ball back you lost all is forgiven
good luck

when u dribble or not depends on the situation.

good point
another is that when you have the ball dont be afraid to carry it
the more you keep the ball the easier it is for people to notice you. Dont just play 1 or 2 touch

that's a brilliant way to sum up the concept. that's unconscious competence, where a skill is learned well enough to a point that u don't even have to think about it. u enter "the zone" and it just happens.
but don't ever let distractions, whether outside distractions or inner distractions, get to you (like an annoying inner voice over analyzing things or being too critical)
-
Dont just play 1 or 2 touch
Unless the other team is faster and stronger than you.
-

even so.
of course u employ lots of quick passing in ur tactics. but football is a lot more than that. there is a time and place for everything and sometimes u'll need to do other things.

Thx for backing me up Owen

mentally rehearse everything that goes right when u play at school and create an anchor for it. when playing on the pitch for real, use a neutral anchor to bring u to a neutral state. then use the positive anchor u mentally rehearsed. then focus on the present, never the past or the future, to bring urself into the zone, remembering to be aware of everything around you.
if u wanna kno more bout what i said, hit me up with a pm.

The more nervous you look on the ball, the harder the opposition is going to come at you. Think about it...
Professionals close players down but they never get too close to them. It's because the attacker is cool on the ball and possesses enough to beat the defender if he commits too much. If you can play calm and confident, the defender will not commit to tackling you as much. On the other hand, if you look nervous and unsure with your first touch, you'll get tackled hard right away.
It all depends on how you put yourself out there.

not always true.
i'm always confident on the ball. and i should be. when i have the ball on my feet, that's just where i want it. that's my game. i can dribble and humiliate defenders, i am excellent at passing, long balls, and crosses... and i have a great shot on me too.
sometimes defenders back off and let me make the first move. once they're embarrassed enough times or scored on enough..... OR once they see how i play, they'll come at me like fuckin animals. they'll come in hard, check into me, hack at my legs... anything to try and throw me off. now usually, since i'm pretty strong i just hold my ground and shield the ball and continue on with the play but sometimes u jus gotta go down and get a free kick out of it, it becomes ridiculous.

haha, the streetlegend has spoken. Trust me, you ain't all that
Anyway, you do have a point but what you're talking about is a whole different thing..
The topic is mainly about how to get over the fear and get more confident on the pitch, it's not about what happens when you humiliate players in a canadian 4th div futsalgame..
Adis post is good, he's absolutely right
-
owen... who do you play for?? do you play professionally?
-
Obviously no 1 professional hes just writting about how he plays and how he feels when he plays

read everything else i've said before u go running ur mouth. i've contributed more to this topic than you.
and btw, yes i am all those things and i know it. even playing alongside ex professionals from england i was those things. by no means am i a perfect player. i have no sense of defence, i don't usually click with the other players playing with me, communication is off, i'm horrible at headers, i don't committ myself as much or hard as i shud off the ball, and others. but don't u doubt the level i play at.

especially out of the back. if you have a large amount of space, by all means, take it. if not, go the safe route.
@sule: don't play to get noticed.

i never show off. i am very competative that is why i panic when i have the ball. i can take the ball but not keep it.

yeah thats what everyone says but i dont play that much and when i do i have fear.

the thing you must know is that you must put your foot down and stamp your authority on the game for example if its a match if you go in hard the first 5-10 minutes the other players will be afraid of you.
you have to go in hard. you have to have the Go hard or Go home mentality. you didn't wake up and get your soccer gear on to be pushed around by another human their not robot your are equal. if you go in hard for the 50/50s your opponent will not go in for the 70/30s in their favor if your going in for it. and when you first get the ball you should control, tapping the ball in front of you by no more then 1 meter and have your head up to look for options, do the basics, some people specially Somalis try to do the Ronaldinho flick when they can't even passed a ball straight. also when dribbling a player never go back for him cause the second and third time he won't go for the ball and you will be sidelined
-
also when dribbling a player never go back for him cause the second and third time he won't go for the ball and you will be sidelined
Kinda obvious.
You want to start the game off hard to scare off your opponent's confidence.
-
also when dribbling a player never go back for him cause the second and third time he won't go for the ball and you will be sidelined

most Somalians do it at every chance they believe if a ball going through a persons leg is like a goal and will come back for you until they do and thats just attack, in defence they never chase a player if he goes past your thats it wait for the next chance
-
yeah i hate the people that do that. i'm a defender so i dont usually get the chance to dribble.

Oh okay, I see what you're saying now. That's really weird though, I don't know any coach over here that would live for that.
