Who is better? They are both 'american soccer prodigies' so comparison is appropriate.
-
it's a tough comparison to make. i guess if i had to choose one player to play on my team right now, i would choose freddy.
-
I think I agree...except boy can Altidore play. I think they'll be the two best players of the USA in two years
-
i wouldn't go that far. landon will be in his prime, and there are others who are in a position to make a push for that claim in two years
freddy will be close. i don't think altidore is that far along yet
-
I beg to differ....Altidore has the raw talent and a trip to Europe will cement it. Landon...ahhhh he'll be good, but I think his progress will slow a lot in the years to come
-
in 2 years jozy will be, what, 19? i don't think hell even be a first team regular then. best player in two years...michael bradley after he moves to everton
-
altidore by a long shot.
adu fell into his on hype...plus he aight.
-
i prefer adu
-

exactly. adu is much closer to a finished product

about 20.5. he turned 18 around the jan. transfer window
best player in two years...michael bradley after he moves to everton
 he was one of the "others." set the american record for goals scored in a season in europe this past year in holland

that guy is pretty good too
adu fell into his on hype...plus he aight.
have you seen him play lately?
-
ok yeah Bradley is damn good....maybe I'll revise that to say top 4 plaers in the USA...and Adu is playing well in Portugal...he just needed to get out of the mls...where he played since he was 14 -- a boy among men.
-
Altidore will do great (performance) compared to Adu in Benfica but in overall talent Adu edges
i like to believe Adu jumped to Benfica too early
-
Speaking of Howard, I bet Man U wishes they still had him.
I think Adu is a bit better at the moment, especially after watching him in the last 3 US games. He played against very good opposition and did well. Altidore will develop nicely in Spain I believe. I think both players made wise career decisions by moving to Europe. It's already easy to see how Adu has matured more in the past year in Portugal than he has in his 3 years in the MLS.

Its because theres no variation of play in the mls. Every team plays the same way, and its not as technical or artful as it could be given the talent of the players. In Portugal, and especially in Spain, where the world's most beautiful league soccer is played, there is plenty of variation, and a chance for a young, talented player to use his skills and develop them in an atmosphere conducive to flair on the ball and creativity.

How come Donovan is not getting picked up by some mid-table European team? Does he not want to leave?

Donovan strikes me as the kind of guy who enjoys tearing up the mls. Bid fish in a small pond sort of mentality. But I'm surprised hes not getting offers :saywhat: Is he?

i don't know, but he's making bank in socal with a nice house and nice cars. it sounds like a pretty good life.
he has had interest (even after the leverkusen "debacle"), but he has decided to stay in the states
-
why, though? He could make more $ in Europe too.
-
he was born in socal and lives in socal. he probably likes it there. i can't really blame him. some people like to be close to home, and if if there was any home to like, that would be a good one :pimp:

fair enough

I think Adu is better...But even Altidore is great.
-
Yes. We have established that both are excellent players.
-
Must be Beckham's good looks that are keeping him here.
-
all mls players are shit,
-

wen i saw adu against england he was crap, any 1 can look gud playin football in america , some 1 whos in a wheel chair wud probably the leading goalscorer, football in england is the best that is where football belongs, that is where the passionis, english fans geet excited wen a game goes to extra time the americans get excited when the keeper does " a 50 yard half line belter kick"
they all say the game will be big now "bekham" has arived but the truth is "soccer" will never be half the standard in the mls as it is in the premier league
havant and fuckin waterloovil cud beat any mls team.
and that is why mls is as shit as curling
-
blah, blah blah. you're boring dude. shut the hell up
-
hey dalefreestyle, how come the US is ranked higher than England in the FIFA ranking?
I don't see Beckham exactly tearing it up, and British soccer (played by brits) is ugly, technically poor, and lacking in creativity. I hate watching the Englisj national team play.
-

dales arguements are ignorant, but in answer to your question its easier for non european teams to get higher ranked because the level of play is less and fifa base rankings on what games they play. european standard is higher than north american, ergo those that dont perform in europe get a somewhat unfair reflection when compared to those who have lesser standard of competition.
-
lesser standard of competition does not equal brazil and argentina

wot r u on check out that england r 9 , usa are 22nd and we thrashed u thechnically the other week, im not being ingnorant english are gud at football americas good at american football , baseball etc. its just a basic fact
-
in the same way that qualification for the world cup is done with european teams facing off, north central and carribean american teams facing off, and that leads to it being harder to qualify for the world cup from europe (though there are more places due to the number of competing teams), the same is true for world rankings, fifa can only base on games that are played and the level of europe is much tougher than central north americas and the carribean.
-
I see where you are coming from, but I don't think it's too hard to have to play San Marino or Finland to be quite frankl.

i'll respond to the rest of your posts later

USA was ranked eighth last time I checked :dontknow:
I'll let a;sdlfkjas;df make the obvious refutations later

I'm still waiting on Adu to be the figure head of U.S. soccer that he was supposed to become. I always thought he was over hyped. Go Altidore! Very good move for him
