Title: Future for the forum?
Post by: Yen on May 14, 2013, 04:32: PM
Hey guys it's been a while,

The forum has been on the down side for a quite a while now, what are your suggestions on what you want on the forum? More competitions, information etc.

before comps or stuff let's make a proper vid. of kinda re launching this site... we all can give 10-15 sec clips a good vid. nicely edited kinda driving everyone to re visit or to register to this site  just to attract guys out there.... we just have to make our presence felt only comps aint gonna do it... if there are no freestylers with the forum compititors would be less too... a good 3 min vid is gonna do it i guess...

When will everyone realise forums just won't work anymore? It's pointless trying to save it, it's dead and it'll be forever (sadly enough). L2F lost all activity too, forums just aren't appealing anymore.
You can't force people to come here, and I doubt they will suddenly think about rejoining a dead forum just because of nice memories. Also, nobody will join an online competition anymore organised on either l2f or BF, on both forums they are shit since freestylers don't care about online comps anymore.

Just let it die in peace instead of trying to save it for the 15th time :)

That's not true. There are still plenty of very active forums. It appeals to different types of people. There are many things we need to do, some small and some big. Big things would be a proper video marketing Youtube channel. That would get the name out there to new people to freestyle. Yen has made the podcast idea which could be cool as well. Small things would be just making an effort to create interesting topics, not just freestyle too. One of the greatest feelings is finding new things in common with people you already have something in common.

Make it a forum about general life then instead of freestyle :D Come on, it's been more than a year since people tried to save this forum and it NEVER worked. Stop being unrealistic and just admit it, only noobs will join

I think you may be one of the problems. How about your broaden your horizons? Or are you really just that boring of a person?

You did realize I meant to make both interesting freestyle topics and non-freestyle topics right? I'm sorry, but I don't think any forum can survive with 100% of it's talk being purely on the main topic. Every other forum I've ever looked at or posted on has had very popular general chat boards. In fact, there are large bases of the forum that mainly post in those sections. They originally joined for the main topic, but they find they enjoy talking about other things more. Most forums embrace this. Only Beyond Football has stuck it's nose up at it. That has to change.

We are all here, because we like freestyle. We all know that. Some people would just like more than only freestyle. Also, I mentioned that as a small thing we can do on here. Yen creating a topic like this is a start, because we are talking.

P.S. What's wrong with noobs joining the forum? They have to start somewhere. You were a freestyle noob once, and you are still a noob in many life qualities.

I think we need to refocus the homepage.  I'm working with Yen to setup a new homepage for BF... it will be more video focused.  We will work on driving more traffic to the website and hopefully the forum picks up.  We might just use comments on the videos on the homepage and communicate that way for the majority of it.

I might remove some categories here on the forum so we don't distribute the few threads across so many sections. We can do Freestyle Chat, Freestyle Videos, Soccer Forum, and General Chat.  That's all that's needed.

As far as the homepage goes, what would you like to see?

We are looking into two options right now:

1) Site similar to Youtube but focused solely on freestyle videos.  We will upload videos and users will be able to do the same.  Instead of looking all through Youtube, we will have all freestyle videos and will include categories to show off the legendary videos, old school stuff, top new vids, etc.  It will just be easier to find it all in one place instead of browsing through Youtube.
2) A showcase site that displays the best HQ videos.  Users can't upload videos; we'll just upload the best and sexiest videos out.

1. Yeah, I must be the problem of BF not being active for the last 1 and a half years.
2. The forum is boring, I don't have anything to do with it :D

I think you proved my point. You are incapable of having intelligent or entertaining discussions, so yes, you are boring. Thanks for coming.

  • Example design: http://demo.dedepress.com/detube/

  • Example design: http://themeforest.net/item/this-way-wp-full-videoimage-background-with-audio/full_screen_preview/943634

I say we keep most of the videos inside the forum. Taking them out of the forum may take away our one fairly active forum at the moment. Now, maybe a video of the week type thing would be cool to showcase on the main page.

L2F is exhausted. We need to resurrect BF, especially here are the most amazing topics of al freestyle football history.

There was never a point of having two freestyle forums.

It should always have stayed here.  I doubt Macca would be interested, but it'd be a good idea to merge the two and drive people to one place.

Adi, Macca doesn't even agree with officialy placing info about online-competitions on his foru, what to say about this. As he said "I spend too much time to make it not like I want". L2f forum dies and only main page keeps updated day by day.

I remember back in the day when this forum and the NAS forum were buzzing, there was so many topics daily and so many people chatting  about everything. The days of Lindroth, Palle, Timo, Legend all being on the forums and interacting with people are long gone in my opinion. I've just looked on this site and videos barely even get a response from people.

The problem is people just use social networks to chat, everyone has Facebook, Twitter etc on their phones to talk to people. Gone are the days when people didn't have those choices and all they had was this place. It is sad to see that this place that housed the birth of football freestyle for many people to be dead, but I don't see people changing their ways. If a freestyler can post a video on Facebook where they have hundreds of freestylers as their friend to watch it and receive feedback that way...then forums aren't coming back.

I think you make a good point, Jimmy.  We are trying to figure out a way to re-create the homepage so we still make BF a focus for freestyle.
