Title: Good Self-Defense Videos and Tutorials
Post by: redsforlife on Feb 03, 2013, 05:11: PM
First off, I want to make sure all of you know, just watching these videos won't make you capable of defending yourself. It will only give you ideas on how to defend yourself. There is really no substitute for training in a real martial arts gym/dojo.

I remember seeing that video like 5 years ago, it was awesome. All the guys that watched it practiced it on each other, we did some stupid shit together, learnt a lot too.
But what's the point of learning martial arts extensively without ever wanting to compete? It's not like street fights are an everyday occurrence. Outside of school, I don't think anyone has ever even threatened me unless it was over the phone.

Well, you shouldn't get into many fights in your lifetime. Honestly, I think if you've genuinely been in more than 5 real fights in your lifetime, you are either a bit of a troublemaker or you live in an extremely rough neighborhood. Part of self-defense is just staying out of trouble, and learning when it's actually worth fighting a battle or standing up for something.

Now, on actually learning how to fight or defend yourself if you aren't planning on competing, you never know when you may need it. It could happen sooner or later, but you never know. I just think it's better to be prepared and not need it than to not be prepared and need it.

Ahh, the old gun/condom analogy. Although it's a lot of work compared to just carrying an extra item on you I can see where you're coming from.

Depending on what it is, fairly high. It really just depends on the copyrighted material whether Youtube will remove it or not. I guess Bas has been cracking down on it a bit, or at least the company that he works for has.

Decent knife defense video. I agree. Knives are scary shit, and all his points make sense. Best advice, run or give him your wallet. If you have to fight, his advice is pretty good.

Stefan Kesting, black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu did a few basic tutorials on what to do to escape a street fight. I personally love his videos because he explains very well, he alsways has a bit of humor too.

The first one:

GO on hs channel for the others, it's pretty simple stuff.
And if you like BJJ he also explains more complicated stuff with high level competitors.

Stefan Kesting is legit. Feel bad that you are talking to yourself pretty much on here.
