Time to start a new thread folks.
- What have you seen lately?
- Any recommendations?
- Any lesser known movies you'd recommend?
I'll watch Django on Friday. Looking forward to it... should be good.
Some movies I've recently seen: Flight, Argo, War Horse, Source Code
Flight - good but more about the addiction of drinking than a flight crash.
Argo - very good movie overall.
War Horse - average, but decent for a home watch.
Source Code - very good movie; thrilling and thought provoking.
-
seen Life Of Pi? beautiful movie, but misses a little action for my taste :)

It's probably his best movie so far, but also the most extreme. I see you're 14... this one really pushes the rated R limits in some scenes.
-
i'll handle it :) i think.. have u seen Inglourious Basterds? (also by Quentin)
-
Yeah, that's another classic. :great:
-
Pain And Gain is coming out this year, looks like it could be good. I know they normally come out sooner in America, it out released there already?
-
i always liked Mark Wahlberg...but i like him much better in the action-hero role, rather than comedy.
-
Mark's the ultimate douchebag, but he was quite good in Ted and his recent action movies. Not really sure why people really want to pay him top dollar for these big movies though. Still don't see him as an A list actor although they treat him as one.
-
what about The Hobbit, have any of u seen that??

For what? Violence? We Americans don't think anything of violence. You can put as much of it as you like in film, and half the time it will remain PG-13. We just don't like any of that filthy sex. Any of that, it gets an immediate R rating. Anything crazy, it's labelled porn.
I think it's funny that several movies in the US are rated R for a sex scene, but in Europe they are equivalent to PG-13. Our cultures seem to be opposite. I've read of American movies getting banned for graphic violence. Personally, I wish people thought of violence as being worse. One of them is showing people kill each other, and the other is just babymaking. Yes, lets shield our eyes from the one that is natural and not a bad thing. Makes sense....
-
Im not very up to date on movies since I watch them as soon as there is a dvdrip :p.

I've loved him ever since, "How's your mother?"

There are 2 specific scenes in Django which really push the limits. I think most of it comes from the excellent directing and editing. The fight scene is so real and emotionally fueled since you know what's at stake from the beginning of the scene. Watch the movie and you'll know what I'm talking about. I was really into the movie and the significance of the events during those times, so it really made the scene.
I don't want to spoil it for you since these two scenes really make you remember the movie. You should watch it man, good movie.
-
By the way, saw Looper last night. Another good movie.

Very interesting how they changed the look of his younger self. The actor looked quite different from his usual self.

I plan on seeing it. I was just talking about violence in movies in general. I have never understood why we are this way. Violence is far worse than pretty much anything else you can put in a movie. If I keep my kid from watching anything when he/she is young, it will be graphic violence, not a nude scene.

yés, they really did a great job wuth the makeup..he looked quite a bit like bruce

Just watched Django Unchained. Probably the best movie I've seen all year. Very intense movie. Now, the violence was pretty rough, but it really wasn't the violence that made it so intense. It's the subject matter. I mean, there were some things that were stylized to make the movie more entertaining, but it's overall fairly realistic depiction of the southern USA at the time.
-
What did you guys thing of The dark knight returns? I thought, for what they had in resources/actors/story, that it was soo dissapointing. Especially compared to The dark knight. Soo many gaps in the story, unrealistic 'coincidences', most unnecessary stupid plottwist ever, worst villain voice :p.
-
isnt it called 'The Dark Knight Rises'? :D

I liked it. It wasn't as good as The Dark Knight, but it was still quite good. The story was different from your typical superhero movie. It maybe did get overdone at times. It's a Batman movie. There's always tons of unrealistic instances. I'd actually say the Nolin movies are all slightly more realistic than the old movies. I actually thought Bane was a create villain. Bane was the highlight of the movie. The big brute with a super high intellect was a very interesting character. My biggest complaint is they left the ending open for the sequel, but they aren't going to make one. The series is going to be rebooted instead. Which is LAME....

Yes, absolutely brilliant movie man. As far as the violence goes, that's exactly what I thought and what I was trying to hint at when I said: "The fight scene is so real and emotionally fueled since you know what's at stake from the beginning of the scene." The sound effects and visuals were also brilliant in the scene (e.g. punches to the ribs). Also, the people in the room. Each person had a different reaction to the events happening. Really special scene.

Pretty much what I thought of it, except I really enjoyed the ending of it. It does make you want a sequel but it was a good ending overall. I enjoyed them showing Bruce and then Robin, etc. The previous one was the best one ever and it could never be topped.

The fight scene was better choreographed than I'd expect, but I'm kind of a martial arts snob. If anything, they showed probably better technique than those men would have had in real life. I doubt they knew how to do the submission hold. Absolutely barbaric that this shit happened.
The ending of TDKR was fine if they were planning on the sequel. That's the only problem. One more problem with TDKR, the fight scenes were terrible. Batman and Bane are both supposed to be martial arts experts. Watching Batman throw wild haymakers was disgusting. If Batman fights me like that, I'd knock him out, yet someone as huge and athletic as Bane.
-
Kinda lame that 90% of the movie there was no batman: p. He did like, 4 scenes as batman.

Correct. I've removed his link from the post.
The Globes were on the other day. Argo and Django won a lot.

I just watched a movie called Hamlet 2. It's kind of old, but fuckin hilarious. It features this catch lil' number. I recommend seeing it if you get the chance.

Just saw Fast and Furious 6. I will say I'm a fan of the series, and I've enjoyed the previous movies. The first thing you have to remember though is to not take the movie 100% serious. If you do, you will just be annoyed by how unrealistic everything in the movie is. If you watch it for what it's meant to be, it's pretty damn amazing. The level of action and over the top stunts and effects keep your extremely entertained. I'd definitely recommend it.
