1) We are only allowing people who are registered to view the threads. I thought this would help increase registrations and increase posts, but it's not working. I need to allow everyone to view all the threads and posts. If people are happy about what they see, they will eventually register and post. Forcing them to register isn't working. I used to argue the other way with admins on other forums, and it looks like they were right. It's better to leave the forum open and allow people to browse. They will eventually register if they want. Also, limiting the viewing of topics is also preventing Google from crawling those topics and listing them in the search engines.
2) I would like to change the front page. No doubt. Whoever said the front page needs to make a good impression is completely right. I need new stuff there or I need to move the forum to the front page. I'll decide soon.
3) If someone has ideas for the front page, let me know.
4) I still think creating a big competition website as the front page of BF would be best. We'd have daily/weekly/monthly comps.

This place is becoming a video dumping forum only used to get a few extra views. We have to make it clear that this place is not for that and that other sections are used.
Don't dump other people's videos, I don't care if Jesus Mohammed Buddha can't be bothered doing it themselves or if you're a fan or friend, if they don't post here, don't post their videos.
That will cut down on all the shit posts in the video section and get freestylers coming here, posting their own videos and then checking out the rest of the forum when they get bored.
-
we are already geting a little more posts in other than video section, but the problem is that its only the same people posting all the time. So Adi, ur idea might work with letting all ppl see posts and topics
-
Competition page sounds like a good idea. You might make some restrictions on how you can enter to make sure they are posting on the forum. Social Network is a bust, but I do think we need some sort of main page. I think the video and competition threads should be locked until you have reached some sort of post limit. This prevents people joining and only using those two threads.
I agree with LIS about not posting other people's videos just to help them get more views. Unless it's a big video that really is worthy of a discussion, don't post other people's videos that aren't members. Let them post their own videos if they want those views.
Last, but not least, the users that actually are active have to try to create some interesting content and support existing content. Try to open your mind a bit to things you may not usually find an interest in. If there are interesting discussions on here, other users may join. For example, even a few people I didn't expect to post on my K-1 and MMA threads posted. More good content means more good discussion.

We have to be careful here. I don't think people "dumping" videos here is a problem. Think about it... what happens if you keep people from dumping videos? Nothing. You will just go from 20 posts per day to say 5-10. No videos does not mean more posts. It just doesn't correlate. I think it's completely fine for people to keep dumping videos. It still adds content to the page and some people still come here to watch the latest videos. We shouldn't take that from them. There might be no use of this forum if videos aren't being posted. In the end, I don't think this is an issue. The bigger issue is people don't post in other forums. This is completely irrelevant to video posts. Just because videos are being dumped doesn't mean other forums can't be active. The way I see it, people only see use in dumping videos here. That's a problem, but preventing dumping of videos doesn't do anything to fix the former problem.

I think the forum will pick up naturally. I don't think we have to force people to do anything. Forcing people to register, have X amount of posts, etc will only annoy people and keep them from participating in anything on the site. If we make a successful competition homepage and people enjoy the site, they will naturally want to sign up on the forum to talk about the comp and freestyle. I don't think we need to force people's hand. I think I've learned that the hard way.

I don't know if I agree with this either. In an ideal world, we'd want the video owner to post his own video but that just isn't reality. Royal Freakiness has really helped the Video section with his topics. If you force owners to post their own video, you'll just get even less activity. I don't see how restricting things helps in any way.
It all comes down to people posting in the sections that are important to them. If you want the Freestyle Chat and Equipment sections to boom, then post there a lot and start interesting and new threads. Maybe post a link to the topic on facebook so people can see it. Slowly things will pick up but it requires proactive work and good posts... pretty much what you said in the quote below.

you just need to start putting promo into it....like what daniel roosenboom is doing with vids to his channel ,.;.... you should regularly post on twitter from beyond football and should follow every freestyler and be in communication with them. also make a facebook fanpage that is well promoted and make people know that this is still in full force and isnt just slowing down and packing up its bags.

I totally agree. The only problem for me is time. I just don't have the time I used to when I was 15-21 with lots of time on my hands. I'm trying to let Jason and Yen take over more but even they are busy.
I really need a group of 2-5 guys who have the time and interest in doing something with the site and freestyle. I'm not about the money, so I'm more than happy to let those who manage the site reap the profits. I'm paying for the hosting and server so no expenses for anyone. It's just a matter of putting in the time and knowing a little about websites.
-
Andrew, we'd also appreciate it if top guys like you would spread the world around when you get the chance. I know that before freestylers would chat about BF and would introduce it to guys who didn't know. I know it's a bit different now, but would be greatly appreciated.

If this place is only for dumping videos and those videos each get 1-2 comments, the forum looks dead and then people will just post videos and leave because of how dead it looks and assume that the other threads are empty too. If some of the best freestylers are getting 4-5 comments, that gives the impression that the freestyle chat is less than that and not worthy of checking out.
It's hardly content at all, everyone has YouTube and almost all the well known freestylers have subscribers who watch their videos on YT first.
5-10 posts that spark a discussion are worth way more than 20 posts of videos with 1 comment in them. Quality posts will always be better than 'nice'.
It depends on what you want, more posts doesn't necessarily mean more activity. I want more activity which in turn will make more posts.

make a video - *beyond football NEW & IMPROVED* register today :victory: :13:

I never said this place is only for dumping videos, or that it should be that way.
Of course the Freestyle Chat session should ideally be more popular and there should be lots of posts besides the few video comments we get.
What I was saying is that dumping videos does not negatively impact the forum. The lack of other conversations doesn't directly correlate with the videos being dumped. That's just my point.
-
I never implied you did. But that's what it's becoming and I've already pointed out why that's going to bring the forum down further. I don't know how many other forums you're on but when the forum becomes a place to dump a link to your work/video or whatever, people stop visiting and just go straight to the source(in our case it would be YT and networking sites) which will always win over a forum.
-
We should make many bf/forum ads and share it with others
advertise this forum
"wanna learn how to fs? don't be a b**** and register NOW. check out the freestyle help section..."
I think many bf/forum videos might help.
Maybe fser of the month, of someone could make a montage of the best tricks in a month
and then at the end advertise this forum
I still believe the best way to go is more activity on the fs sections
in time, the other parts will improve
-
I agree with both of you.
L_I_S, the key to a successful forum is good content as you put it. I totally agree.
Royal, yes, we need to promote the forum but we need to throw EVERYTHING at it all at once. First, everyone must pull together and post on here A LOT for about a week or two. During these two weeks, I can send a mass email to all registered forum and social network members. I can also advertise on our FB page. We can ask others to advertise the forum too. However, the activity has to be high on here when we do this so the place looks busy. The new people that show up for the first time or for the first time in months/years should be impressed and be inclined to register/post.
I would also like to have something new on the front page as well so we can push people here for two purposes.
I think we need to decide what we're doing with the front page. Do we want to make bf.com the center for freestyle comps? If so, what's the best way to do it. We can have 3 permanent judges who judge the main comps, but we can also have small comps like best trick of the week, or best video of the week, which would be judged through votes and a poll.

First change... redsforlife is joining our admin team since he's been really involved for a while now. Now his username shows up in lovely green. Yen is still in his same position and I'd like for both of them to work together. Yen is tied up right now so he doesn't have much time but hopefully we'll see him around more often. He's given me a heads up so I'm aware of his situation right now.
-
Change #2 - guests can now read topics as well. We used to prevent them from doing so and in turn also blocked search engines from viewing threads and listing our topics in search engines. Now everyone can read our topics. If people like what they see, they will register and post.
Making the place more open and friendly. Less restriction will hopefully bring more eyes and eventually posts.

That's actually probably a good thing. The only other forum I post on, Sherdog, I actually found out about it through reading through threads that came up in google searches. This will help us out too. If I became interested enough in a forum to join it that way, someone will do the same for BF. Now, we just need more interesting topics.

I have a GREAT idea for advertising! Once we make a lovely promo video, we could share it on youtube channels like
http://www.youtube.com/user/Copa90football (http://www.youtube.com/user/Copa90football)
www.youtube.com/user/kick (http://www.youtube.com/user/kick)
we could also ask those famous fsers who are registered like Skora, Gautier, Azun and appear on here once in a while or even once in a blue moon to promote our forum. One combo is enough.

We need someone that is particularly good at editing and producing videos, maybe even being the voice of BF to run the Official Youtube account. There needs to be regular videos, so people will want to subscribe and see the name regularly. If anyone is interested, PM me samples of your videos and some ideas you would like. I am going to judge on quality and will review with Adi and Yen whether they agree.
-
Royal, how would sharing it with those channels work? Would they upload or link to our video or something?
You are great with Youtube. You should get involved with our channel and maybe head those efforts?

I know KickTV spot lights particular things on youtube, but I don't have a clue how to get involved ourselves. That STR Skillschool guy has apparently been spotlighted on both, and I think it has to do with connections. He's terrible at both football and freestyle. lol
I think getting on that will be quite difficult, and it may even be impossible. Focusing on our own channel is probably the best thing we could do. Also, lets get interviews of famous, controversial, and other types of freestylers within the community. Give people something to watch and talk about.

When tokura won red bull street style they showed a little of the highlights and an interview with edgar davids about fs
Also, Lotar and Edek's (SoccerArtTeam) video of random skills and fs was shared on one of their weekly videos showcasing random stuff about football around the world
Arsenal Christmas Obstacle Course & the Indestructible Soccer Ball - The Whip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK_N_JQBncM#ws)
I thought we might get a spot on that video in particular
That's if it's a really well made promo
Also, about joining the BF youtube channel team, I'll really have to see if I can do it. Can you mention some of the stuff you need me to do for the youtube channel?
Because right now I'm really busy, and starting next week I'm having a second job too... so i'll be extra busy
I really come on beyondfootball to relax my mind, and that's about it. I love fs, and discussions related to them, that's why I love beyondfootball and I really want it to succeed and see a lot of activity on here. I'm not so sure about adding more load on my head really.
-
Yeah, totally understand. You've contributed a lot to the community already so thanks for that. I understand if you're busy and can't take it on.
As far as what we're looking for, I'm not 100% sure. Maybe Jason can provide some details since he's the only one looking out for the channel so far.
I think you know the scene better than most of us and we'd be more than happy to let you get creative with it. Let us know if you have any ideas.
I think a helpful thing would be to post interesting, funny comments on other people's videos, then get others to Like it so we show up at the top. It's somewhat Blackhat, but maybe we can use all our accounts and like a comment made by BeyondFootball that says something like "oh man so many noob comments on here. talk with real freestylers and watch real freestyle at beyondfootball.com/forum." Of course not exactly that, but something fun and catchy. Then we can like it with our separate accounts and get it up there for people to see.
We can also send private messages to people on Youtube letting them know about BF. For example, "hey man, noticed your freestyle comment on X video. you should check out beyondfootball if you haven't yet. we got lots of freestylers there."
I think doing the dirty work like this and really telling people about the site would help the most.
-
If you guys can get a decent amount of footage, I can make a shitty promo video. Just like one clip from all the guys on here, like your best trick or whatever. Adi, find a goal or something you scored. It is Beyond Football, so I have no problem with football and freestyle being in a video.
-
yeah a little football would also be a great thing to have in the video, that could maybe attract some non-freestylers
-
Yea make it a football forum already :D
-
I'm actually reading these last two post :13:
It seems like just yesterday I was accused of ruining BF by wanting more interests and discussion of football. Anyways, football fans love freestyle, so we should be open to having them join our forum. It would only be good for the community, because we will probably have several converts to freestyle.

yeah thats what i thought...this forum is after all a freestyle forum so if we keep it on 1 small section with football, football is not going to take over the forum :)
-
Football would never take over the forum. I would actually be in favor of a slight expansion in the football forums if there was an audience for it. The fact of the matter is freestyle and maybe streetsoccer is the draw for Beyond Football. Football naturally holds some place in the forum, but there are other forums for people that want to 100% focus on football and do not care for freestyle.
-
We need to decide about the front page? Competitions page or what? Not sure what else we could do. I think the comp idea is best.
-
Does anyone else have a problem logging in while using Firefox? Every time I log in I'm sent to a plank page instead of being re-directed to the previous page. I know that the log in went through so all I have to do is open another tab and go to bf but maybe others don't and just think their log in is bugged.
-
Nope
-
what is the front page thing man i'm still not clear about it :017:
and the promo idea is awesome.. it would be great to bring both football and freestyle together :13:
-
about the front page, competitons is a good idea but if we want to maybe convert other people or attract fotball-people it could maybe be a god idea just to have it said on the front page that there also is a football section on the forum...
And VRK just click on the BF logo on top of the page and u'll see tha front page :)
-
Yeah, the front page is beyondfootball.com. The forum is at /forum so it's different. We want to create a new front page which would be the hub for freestyle competitions online.
-
97 posts yesterday. :PDT_Armataz_01_37:
-
I know this has been mentioned before, but I think giving a reward to the highest poster each month to have their video on the top of the forum where the "What Freestyle has Become" video is could generate more posts. I know many people really really want to get more views on their videos, so they might make the effort to post more regularly.

This is a great idea imo
-
Clearly best suggestion until now! giving +1 respect there :)
-
that front page looks cool and nice to me... i don't know how the fuck i never noticed that :embarrassed:
it looks somewhat a mixture of facebook and youtube ... but why change it? it's looks great with all updates and information about fs and new videos are both there

Yeah, it is a great idea and it has almost everything to be a hit, but freestylers never adopted it. My vision was for it to be the freestyle Facebook, but people didn't care enough for it so it's failing.

You starting to hog all the + points?
Yes, we've been wanting to do this. We can keep an eye on the counts on the left side of the forum homepage. Each week, we can PM the highest posted and put his (or any video he wants) on the front page. Heck, it can be ANY video they want so there is some randomness to it.
Wanna start a thread for it and announce it? Each week, new video.
-
Here's my second idea for the homepage.
- Create a cool playlist of the best HD full screen freestyle videos.
http://www.renklibeyaz.com/thisway/?preview=20 (http://www.renklibeyaz.com/thisway/?preview=20)
Check out that link... imagine it with the best HD freestyle videos. We'd keep it updated. It would be the place to go for sexy freestyle entertainment.
-
I like how all the videos on the site are very vague on it's purpose with a hot girl to draw interest then at the very end you find out what it's about. I think we should do that with BF. Random hot models doing whatever then Freestyle. :13:
-
Hah, you perv! Sex does sell though.
On a serious note, what you think of this idea? I'm having a tough time figuring out how to develop the freestyle competitions website. This might be easier. Which would you rather have? Which might be more successful?
-
what if guests could post/reply but can't post videos?
-
what if guests could post/reply but can't post videos?
No consequence for actions with that. It'd pretty much open a window for ad spammers.
-
hmm we could ban IPs though? I mean spammers are still finding their way into the system
-
Dynamic IPs are pretty common though. Yea, that's true but that doesn't mean we should make it easier for them.
-
Yeah, I think it would be too tough to limit the spammers. The bots would have a field day with it.
-
Just added a box on the top left corner of the front page which highlights topics from boards outside of freestyle sections. Might catch a few eyes and get people to read outside the freestyler boards.

it's great i liked it very much :You_Rock_Emoticon:

Check out beyondfootball.com. I added the recent topics to the top and also added a forum bar in orange. Hopefully it will drive some more people here! :)
