Title: Ball letting out air?
Post by: Patrick Edwards on Nov 10, 2011, 03:38: AM
Whenever I pump up my ball (Confed Cup) the air comes out instantly (out of the same hole the needle goes in).

Can anyone explain this or tell me how to prevent it from happening in future?

happens to me aswell with some balls, if it stops after 10 seconds or so and stays pumped up then you should have nothing to worry about

It used to, now it just lets it out until it's out of air, unless I hold on to the hole to prevent the air coming out for a few minutes and then it sometimes stops, would be good to know a solution

Moisten the needle with some spit and insert it slowly but when you're done pumping, pull it out quickly.

nonono you shouldn't pull it out quickly!!!
as lis said you could use spit, but i'd recommend to put a littly bit of Vaselin or  body lotion (or similar) on the needle, put it in slow and carefully, and also pull it out carefully.
what is really bad is if pulling the needle out makes noise, what happens when the valve is wet.

with the vaselin thing i could use my europass until it fell apart, even though it started leaking when it was still in good shape.

Is there anything good for sealing the hole? i have a similar problem, the valve doesn't seal and it lets out air when you pump it up, to pump it up you have to stick the needle in at an angle to pump it up - so how can i seal the hole, do you think tape or shoudl i inject a resin to seal it :D
already tried tape, doesn't work, the air came out anyway

The valve is leaking, you have to stop the leak with something, for Christof vaseline worked. So something that will stop the air coming out, but doesn't prevent you putting the needle in.

My own ball (europass) had the same thing, though when I first noticed the problem it was like your ball now, but in a week or so it was completely fucked up...

As for the situation when it magically stops leaking for you PE, it's because the valve happens to be in a position that it holds air.

Why not buy a new ball?

It will MAYBE fix the ball, it depends on how and where the valve leaks.
And I had this problem myself, so bloody annoying that I eventually bought a new one.
