Title: Suggestions for Beyond Football
Post by: oLi on Dec 14, 2007, 06:17: AM
I know the forum was just launched and all yet I still feel obligated to ask

There will be more side-boards for the main boards right? Like under freestyle there'll be
"freestyle talk" and "freestyle videos"?
Title: Re: Concerning the forum
Post by: Chunkchenko on Dec 14, 2007, 06:23: AM
I'm sure everything will be sorted soon. i think the boards like technology and entertainment will be made again once theres more members, posts and new threads.

Post by: oLi on Dec 14, 2007, 06:24: AM
Good thinking <thumbs up>
It can't be too hard to do it though :p so why not do it right now? Will bring more organization and it'll look much better =)
but I'm sure it has already crossed Adis mind and that it'll be taken care of soon

Post by: Chunkchenko on Dec 14, 2007, 06:26: AM
i think the theme of the forum will most probably be changed first,

Do you all think we should add all the same forums as before or should we reduce it a bit?

Please check the Mods thread for a new suggestion.

I will need to add the quick reply mod to the forum. I'll do all that over the next few days.

Regarding the red X... I don't get it. I don't see it anywhere. :-[

I fully agree

Interesting... not sure what it is though. I'll see if changing the image works. Give me a sec.
Title: Re: Concerning the forum

Just a little idea...:

You should have different colors between the threadtopic and the indicator that alert if a new post have been posted in that thread. Just a little bit hard to see in what thread its a new post now.
Title: Re: Concerning the forum
Post by: Adi on Dec 14, 2007, 09:06: AM
Yeah, I'm working on that. I was thinking the exact same thing.

PS: Smilies are up now... or at least some of them, :santa:

You should probably reduce it for now.

Keep that shout-box way the hell away from here.

can we get that "back to top of page" button inserted again at the bottom of each thread
Title: Re: Concerning the forum
Post by: Finnery on Dec 14, 2007, 10:00: AM
Get quick reply back up, and I think the amount of areas should be reduced, but more than there is currently, if you use too many, then its too specific and only the odd users visit each one imo.

Original forum.

[sucking up] I would like to take this time to say Adi is a legend [/sucking up] seriously your doing a good job man. Also I agree with keeping the sections the way they are for now, really their is no need for so many sections full of one post threads. Ps Fuck the shoutbox always hated it.
Title: Re: Concerning the forum
Post by: Adi on Dec 15, 2007, 08:33: AM
I've added a few more forums but not all of them. I don't see a need for the Entertainment forum and Other Sports because we can make threads for those topics in the General Discussions section. This way they General Chat forum will have quality threads rather than just post-boosting topics.

Also, I'm trying to set up the quick-reply but it's taking me a bit longer than I thought. It's not as easy as I anticipated.

OTC... no shout-box, no way. :bang:

I am also trying to work on the top left logo. I'd like to put in the Beyond Football badge in that corner.

Please let me know what else needs to be sorted out. I'll take all suggestions into consideration.

Where the Karma buttons not always as they are now? I could swear they were.

Hmm... are you not talking about the member list up top? Maybe you are talking about the admin control panel that you had limited access to. You could ban members, etc.?

When you go to the forums main page:

Beside each forum, it says who was the last poster and in what thread.. But to me, this looks kinda untidy, like:

" by Finnery in Re: socks
/tape over foot... " (just copied somethin random)

Should have been somethin more like:
By: *the last poster*
In: *topic name*

This is just my view, but ..  ;)

Just a little trifle, but everythin for the forum to improve!

Nah, if you use the loginform on the top of the forum, you dont have that options. But if you scroll down to the bottom of the forum, you can click a checkbox called "Always stay logged in:"

i wrote that in CAPITAL because the transfers are flooding the Club football section and soon the Market is opening so some league thread might disappear

I think there should be a "Transfers" topic made for all the leagues, and it's locked when the transfer window is closed but unlocked when the transfer window is open.

Yeah that's true but you can just put that stuff in the league threads, and also this prevents spamming.

Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here

heres a few suggestions that i want to hear what people think.

how about a members bio, that will be stickied in general chat. so people can get to know a bit about each other.

such as age, real name, where they live, msn address, what there username means. etc. spam posts will be deleted to make the thread look clean.

also a baby forum (i think thats what the term is) for the football section with the different leagues inside, or to have the important leagues stickied. and the season year to be included in the title so when the season is over a new thread for the league can be stickied.

whats everyones opinion with these suggestions?

And Owen4Ever already knows a lot about me..  :-[ I'm fucking scared.

Done. You should see the members now.

Chunk, it's a good idea with the sub-forums for the leagues but I don't think there would be enough threads in them. I like having the stickies for the leagues. That way the forum looks like it has more posts and so on. If we made more forums for leagues, it would be too spread apart and the place might look inactive if there's only one new thread for each league every week. Hope that makes sense.

Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Chunkchenko on Dec 28, 2007, 09:46: PM
i dont think its worth having a thread dedicated to that, you could easily mention 2,000 ,milestones in the posts or even in the longest thread. because the milestone thread will contain a lot of spam and i dont think having the just for fun section would be great. maybe adi could consider it if he wants it again with the rules of the posts dont count in that section.

10,000 posts would be something to start a thread over.

I think we should just make an "Introductory Thread" and put it in the general section, because on the old SG all the topics went off-topic and screwed, so just make one topic and everyone can introduce themselves there.

It's true... it'd be hard to expect the posts to continue staying as high as they were. After all, it was the holiday season where most of us didn't have much to do. Now that we are busier, some might post a bit less. Like someone mentioned, if we can manage to keep the posts of higher quality, it will all be OK. I'd rather read 5 very good posts than 25 posts of crap or average stuff.

I have added a new mod to the forum that will display videos automatically in the thread when you leave the video URL. It's even better than the one before. It recognizes the videos from over 50 websites and will simple put the video into the thread so you don't have to leave the website to view it.

Here's an example. I'm simply pasting the Youtube URL of this video:

feature=related
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here

No [tags] required?

That's pretty awesome, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of people uploading it to beyond football?
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Adi on Feb 04, 2008, 09:31: AM
This mod will just make things more convenient. Whether people view the video on the forum or on the official Youtube page won't make a difference. People should upload to BF so more people can see their video, and so we can have a freestyle video place for all the newest stuff. Hopefully people will still upload there.

it would make the forums alot more interactive, and its not a hard thing to do, im pretty shore this website already has HTML, but its disabled
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: manutd. on Mar 13, 2008, 05:33: AM
Why do you need HTML? You have forum code already. Wouldn't make a big difference..
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: A10s on Mar 13, 2008, 05:27: PM
with HTML you can insert Widgets, games, flash, and much more stuff like that, i have it on my website, it takes up a bit more bandwidth than normal websites, but i think it makes it look good, you cud make like a "Games" thread like i had on my website, where you post mini games to pass the time and have fun, i think it would be cool
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here

Should I make subforums in the freestyle category for different languages? I think it may attract more freestylers and expand our community to a whole new level.

If so, what languages should we add?
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: manutd. on Mar 19, 2008, 10:33: AM
Spanish, German, Polish..

I see those a lot on the forums, and isn't there a huge Polish forum or something?
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Adi on Mar 19, 2008, 10:36: AM
Yeah there is but it could give them a new reason to come here.

So, think it's a good idea? I like your language options. I think one for China would be good too.
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: manutd. on Mar 19, 2008, 10:38: AM
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. You should contact the admin of that forum and become affliates or something.. help promote eachother.

I think madrid4life(?) (the user who wanted subs for In The Hands of The Gods) said there was a huge Chinese freestyle community, so that would help, definetly, and he could help us translate and whatnot.
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: TheGodEmperor on Mar 19, 2008, 12:10: PM
but you'd have to pick and choose for languages so that you dont spread yourself out too much...which some people who speak a language that you didnt pick might not be happy about...and then you'll land with more complaints. Playing devil's advocate here...
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Adi on Mar 19, 2008, 02:07: PM
Yeah, we'd pick 3-5 subforums. I would obviously pick the most popular languages. If there appears to be a demand for another language, I will add it. I'll just take the complaints as feedback and try to fix the issue.
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Jono on Mar 20, 2008, 04:19: PM
Good idea, by sub forum you mean like general chat for example??

Pick languages that have forums, like there is a huge polish forum so definatly a sub forum for the polish language
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Adi on Mar 21, 2008, 05:35: AM
I would just add it under the freestyle section. For example, there would be a new forum called Foreign Freestyle - Freestyle in Other Languages and then I would create little sub-forums under it such as Polish, Russian, Spanish, etc.
Title: Re: New Forum - Post Suggestions Here

hmmm, Adi, theres just one thing i dont think you have taken in to consideration yet, if you open up new forums in different languages, then you will also need people who know those languages and are good members, to be the forum admins, otherwise the forum would just be senseless

We would get new moderators for the sections a week into the whole thing. Shouldn't take long to find someone who seems reasonable and can speak a bit of English.

yeha, there should be like a "Beyond Football Lounge" my website had a thread like that, and it became the most popular thread, and im shore it would be the same here, but i think it should be opened by a administrator or moderator, and it should be made a Sticky thread, so that it dosent just fade away, that would make the forums much more organized

if your really wanna make this forum good.

have and exact same boards as the old SG and as ducker said get everyone to calm down and stop banning and locking shit.

maybe even get a few more mods to control the boards and stop spmming and shit like that.

You just contradicted yourself. Bans and cards have been given out lately because of spamming. If you want less banning and thread locking then you shouldn't ask for more mods to contain the spamming. ;)

And I'm not sure about the New Members section. It was OK for a while but then it turned into a spam fest. I think the current format is just fine. Who knows though... I might add it a bit later.

They do.  A yellow card functions as a warning.

Adi, you may want to consider a set of rules for the forum along with a set of consequences.

What about a system where great threads that spark good discussions be given stars by the admins. Like a rating sought of thing. I mean when you look at the thread before clicking you would be able to see the starts. Have them from '1-5' depending on how good the thread is. This would encourage members to make better, more interesting and thoughtful threads.
Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: TheGodEmperor on Jun 03, 2008, 02:24: PM
interesting idea...or you could have each member who reads it rate it sorta like a youtube video so that it's not just the mods' opinions that are taken into account
Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: cigar omar on Jun 03, 2008, 02:31: PM
Than people would start rating people they likes threads highly or make multiple accounts to rate there own threads. I know your thinking who would do that. But some one always ends up doing some slick shit like that. Also I think no more than 3 people or something can rate threads. And that we all must agree on criteria for 1,2,3,4,5 star threads.
Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: TheGodEmperor on Jun 03, 2008, 02:34: PM
ok good point melbourne. I concede. Lets say 1: pointless spam, 2: not really worth reading, 3: decent, but nothing particularly interesting, 4: will generate good conversation, is funny, or interesting, 5: Excellent, intriguing, or hilarious. It should be an enduring thread.

oh yeah and wahts up with the colored font?
Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: cigar omar on Jun 03, 2008, 02:41: PM
Thats interesting. But its not exactly what I had in mind. No need to give spam or ordinary threads a rating. I was thinking only very good threads get stars and to get 1 being a good thread and 5 being absolute classic. Would be great if we can get the ball rolling with a nice discussion about it. Whether majority of posters agree on how it should be done. Than see if Adi can do it. I don't know all of the sudden I'm in the mood for color fonts

i have two suggestions:
1 - We make a Religion Q&A thread so people can have clarification about misinterpretations and to settle confusion so we can all put the last religion argument behind us (posts must be non-offensive)

2 - We make a thread in Club football section where we can post the best individual performers, team of the week, game of the week etc.

every religion thread must be 'non offensive' but they always end up that way. if anyone needs Q&A they can do their own research, by whats happened here recently and previously, we have shown this is not the place to have anything about religion.

DUUUDE!!! THAT'S A STUPID SUGGESTION!!! OBVIOUSLY everyone's gonna get pissed and shizzle over there. No religion Q&A thread please... There are other forums for that I think.

I have a suggestion if it's possible

instead of making quotes, can we have a reply button but with the other person's post of course. And then a notification will show that you have a reply? It'll be better so that we don't have to always check whether your post has been replied on or what not.

Thanks for the reminder. I need someone who wants to write up a weekly review. Anyone interested? And we really need someone who wants to take on the responsibility. Maybe 2-3 people would be best.

Also, think there's any other forum that could be added to the freestyle section?

Karma goes anyways, from post to post and what you post and how well they are.
If you want to be liked, show good post and do not do stupid things.
I think the karma should stay. It's a reminder of your actions.
Even though some may abuse it.

A shoutbox would make the site more interesting i reckon.
And good for chat aswell. You wouldn't need to add everyone to msn and have some kinda fest party on it.
Efreestyle has it, why shouldn't beyond have it? as i can see beyond is the biggest freestyle site and could have needed one.
Is there any possebillety mods, that you could have gotten one?

I see your concern, but I don't think it will, I think though it might stop some shit that gets posted in the forums i.e. generl chat stuff in a freestyle thread you know, cos they could just do it in the chat. Which would be positive cos that can be annoyin sometimes.

You'll never know unless it's given a chance

I'm a little bit unsure about the chat thing. Like Adi said it may take away a big focus from the real forum, and most of us use chat clients like ICQ, MSN etc. But yeah, give it a chance, but im a little bit skeptic about it.

And I'm quite sure that people will start posting videos and questions in the chatroom and not in the forum. This will prevent the majority of people seeing the video or reading about your questions...

Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Tom on Nov 06, 2008, 06:07: AM
About the street/ground section. I still think it's not big enough to get a own section. People who do grounds are mostly freestylers too(lower, upper, sit) Buy maybe it will get people more interested into grounds.. i don't know!
Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: redsforlife on Nov 06, 2008, 06:12: AM
agree with tom. not enough people post grounds vids as is. we would basically have an almost empty section. i say we just make it obvious if say there is a street, panna, or futsal clip that they would like to post to go ahead and  post it in the freestyle section. this would save confusion over whether this type of video can be posted there.
Title: Re: Forum - Post Suggestions Here
Post by: Tom on Nov 06, 2008, 06:19: AM
True, and many videos contains both regular freestyle, and grounds/futsall clips. So it will be confusing for many where to put the video.

on other forums, i've seen it to where you can mark a post from the poster as being readable.  if the poster is making a genuine contribution to the forum, you will be able to allow yourself to see the post without "un" ignoring him

Well I think I have a good suggestion here, don't know if it can be realizable, but well, that's your problem Adi. :)

My idea is to add a feature that allowes users to vote on comments, similar to the like button on facebook, but in fact more like Yahoo answers. Inside a thread, comments that have the highest votes will be showed immediately under the intial post of the one who created the topic.

I think this is very useful in questions concerning shoes, balls, tricks etc showing other freestylers the best voted answer immediately, so they don't need to read trough 5 or more pages (example).

What do you think?

p.s. I know I'm a genius.

Didn't we have a similiar thing in the tech section a while ago?

Here's a sugestion, could the moderators do some moderating? There's 4 of them in the freestyle section alone, I shouldn't see a spam thread a day after it's been posted. The only moderating I've seen is that topics get locked for absolutely no reason. Why should a person have his video locked because people are having an argument? I'm sure that the moderators have the ability to delete posts, as oli used to delete a lot of mine when I questioned him.

Put some adverts on the sides. If you don't want to piss off users that don't have the ad-block addon, make them only visable to non-members.
And then use the money produced from the ads to fund better things for the forum.

Oh and I think the jump to video section doesn't work properly.

Yes, actually I wouldn't mind if there was like one advert at the main page.. However I think a lot of people would mind, so I don't know.
Maybe like L_I_S said only for non-members. And then we might get more members because you can "attract" people by saying that if you're a member, there won't be any ads. For example a lot of free apps on the app store have ads, and the paid version with more features doesn't have ads at all. Good idea L_I_S.

How can you see that section if you're not a mod? I'm supposed to oppose your idea in a thread you can't even see...lol competent.
This thread is for suggestions and that's what I'm doing. If you didn't understand the suggestion, I'll make it more clear for you and any of the other non-English speaking members.

I suggest that this member isn't promoted to mod status until he(or someone else) is needed. It may have been his old job back in the days of penis comparing, but right now there is no need to have another mod.

el mafioso: Comments containing racism and insults to moderators will be removed. This is your first warning.

Racism: This freestyle and football forum should bring us all together just like the game of football does. Please keep in mind that our forum goes beyond race and religion. Racist behavior and comments that lead to discrimination or prejudice will be automatically punished by a yellow card or automatic ban. The moderating team has the right to judge how long the yellow card or ban will last.

Admins and Moderators: Administrators and moderators are here to make your experience as good as possible. Without our moderators and admins, Beyond Football wouldn't be what it is today. Please show these members respect and do not offend them for their work. Any comments towards the forum moderators and administrators that suggest hate, contempt or any other form of abuse will not be tolerated. Yellow cards will automatically be handed out to offenders. If you have a complaint against a moderator or admin, you can send a private message to Adi with your full complaint. The admins and moderators will then take a closer look into the situation.

holy cow, is someone getting worried here?

I'm here to develop the forum into something far better than this, if that doesn't meet with your purposes, than that's not really my problem

Yes, you are my power hungry friend. I can tell from your posts that you crave the ability to remove posts and lock threads.
It's saddening.

ok, this forum is doomed.. a few years ago moderators understood that being a moderator is alot more than just removing posts and locking threads.

i am hungry for power, but unlike you, I'm actually gonna do something good with it

It's not doomed at all. It's growing more each day filling with more and more freestylers. You would not know that since you've been here for..2 days?
A moderator moderatates posts. That's pretty much all I can do.
If I had admin rights I'd be able to create and do all the magical things you're mentioning.
The first thing I would have done was fix the jump to function! Adi, come on man, I miss it.

You've been here for 2 days. STFU and stick around for a while before jumping to conclusions. Go through some posts and see that the mods do a very good job in keeping this place alive and informative.
This is the last post reguarding this matter. If you want to continue dicussing this make a thread called 'To all moderators' and we can continue there.
No more off-topics.
Peace.

Hey guys, please chill. I like all of you and I'm sure you'd get along if you were all mods. Each one of you brings something new to the table. I just don't want a bunch of bickering around. Mods gotta stick together. LIS and mafioso, can we start over? I like what LIS does around here and mafioso can be very helpful as he said. Let's try all being mods. And please, let's calm down with the new and old generations battles. Lol.

are you still insulting me about stuff i said months ago? Why are you always trying to pick a fight? I don't understand why you get so angry if you see a post you don't like. You should calm down a bit man, even if you don't like me.

I really don't care who likes me or agrees with me. I say my opinion, but i'm really bored of this constant, pointless arguing and insulting.

And just because you are a coach does not mean your opinion is worth more than mine. There are good coaches and bad coaches. So as i said before, you should be more humble.

Got a favor to ask.

Can you please log out of your account and visit this topic, or any topic for that matter, and tell me if the page shrinks where the posts are displayed.

List your browser and if the page shrinks when you are logged out (guest view).

Nothing changes except the quick reply options isn't there of course. Firefox.

Are you asking if the font and page shrinks back to default? If you clear your history, all memory is cleared, even settings of zooming goes back to default(ctrl + "+"). You can use that command to make it bigger if you want.
