Official English Premier League 2011/2012 Thread

It's gonna be a great season guys!  Man City and Liverpool look stronger than last season.  Tottenham and Arsenal will obviously be up there as well.

Any predictions or thoughts on the season?  Here are my predictions for this year:

1)  Manchester United
2)  Manchester City
3)  Chelsea
4)  Liverpool
5)  Arsenal
6)  Tottenham

I'm going to be pissed if this stuff interferes with the season openings on Saturday. I plan to watch all of the games while sitting on my couch with my comforter in the morning :13:

Don't think that Manchester City will finish above Chelsea. Drogba is looking just as dirty as ever, and I think this new manager will be inspiring...

1. Manchester United
2. Chelsea
3. Manchester City
4........

I don't even feel comfortable with making a top 3, let alone 4. This season is going to be insane.

And I love Arsenal's top quality acquisitions...they are really doing well in finding experience and filling their holes :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Yeah, I was thinking about putting Chelsea up to 2nd but they haven't brought anyone in to help in the midfield, at least creativity wise.  They need someone there...

Instead they are piling on forwards:

-torres
-drogba
-kalou
-anelka
-sturridge
-lukaku

Tottenham vs Everton match has been postponed because of the riots. :embarrassed:

:043: :043: yeh arsenal suck lol. They will surely be out of the top four this season. Wenger promised an exciting signing and then brought in a winger from the championship. I cant even remember the guy's name. I will actually be surprised if they make it as high as 5th.

My predictions:
1) Man utd
2) Man city
3) Liverpool
4) Chelsea
5) Tottenham
6) Arsenal

Gervinho will be solid for them.  Chambarlain (sp?) will be solid too in the future.  Not bad signings, but when you're ridding yourself of Fabregas and maybe Nasri, it's tough to make up the lost ground.

De Gea almost cost Man U the game... what's he doing in his first two games?  Looks like crap, not 18 million worth.

arsenal were crap again today vs liverpool omg. Even though that new guy frimpong got a red card i thought he played really well. But when your defensive midfielder puts in the best performance u know u have problems. Forget alex song, cuz frimpong is the man :celebrate:

Jose enrique looked good too......or maybe it was just walcott's one-dimensional play that made him look good lol. Anyway, the game was actually boring and only late introduction of suarez livened up the game.

I know wenger was great in the past but he has to leave now cuz i think he has gone senile  How can he not realise they need more experience in the team? They need a new left back cuz sagna is clearly a RB. Also a striker cuz van persie is shit. And a playmaker cuz cesc is gone, nasri is leaving and rosicky is shit hehe.

man city look the reall deal this year. they were awesome vs spurs. Adi, im really impressed with your boy dzeko. What a player!! :undecided: I actually think he played better vs bolton last weekend. That was a perfect centre forward performance.....he was good today too and scored 4 brilliant goals. His mobility is so good despite being a big and tall player.

Nasri was the final piece in the puzzle i think. This is man city's year to win the BPL. I would not put my head on a block caus manutd look good too, but i have a feeling City will win this thing :victory:

Dzeko is back to his world-class self.  Goals in all games this season and also the Community Shield.  Very happy about that!

Manchini has decided to play some attacking football and now has Nasri and Silva to pull the strings.  He's also grown the balls to do what's best for the team, which is to bench Tevez.  Dzeko needs to start up top every game so they have some stability with a forward who plays like a forward.  This will allow Silva, Nasri and Aguero to use their space properly.  Tevez normally runs into the space of attacking mids and fellow forwards... quite annoying.  It's a big problem for Messi's space when they play together for Argentina.  Maybe they'll realize it soon.

Torres fucked that one up. He is one of the best players in the world, but Chelsea seems to not suite him  :(

Van Persie scored another 2 goals today.  He's scored about 35 goals in his last 30 games.

What a fucking player!!!

So glad to see him on a roll and injury free.  Always thought he was one of the top 3 strikers in the world when fit.

Whoever is losing at half-time wins those games, LOL.  Can't believe it happened twice last year and then again this season.  Don't they learn?

Van Persie is a top 5 player right now.

1. Messi
2. Ronaldo
3. Xavi
4. Van Persie
5. Silva

top 5 player where? in london? Or top 5 at arsenal you mean right?

Maybe RVP is top 5 in the striker category, on current form, but there is no way he top 5 overall. Van persie has improved a lot recently though i admit. I'm still not a big fan of him though :098:

Who would you put in your top 5?  Van Persie is one of the best right now.  He does it all... score, assist, link up the play, score the big goals, unselfish, and can create something when least expected.

On current form I would have messi, c.ronaldo, xavi, iniesta, silva, cesc, lavezzi and cavani all ahead of RVP.

If you put cavani or lavezzi as striker for arsenal they would do very well too, probably better. Van Persie has great stats now but when i watch him i do not see any incredible pass vision or ability to do anything spectacular. He has been effective but he is not the most exciting player.

He reminds me of pippo inzaghi in his prime. Effective but nothing spectacular

Man, you need to watch more or learn some stuff about the game.  Inzaghi is nothing like Van Persie.  You're probably too young to remember Van Persie but that's more of a comparison.  Heck, Del Pierro in his prime could be another comparison.

Van Persie is well ahead of Lavezzi and Cavani.  While I do like those players, you don't see Barca coming after them, do you?  There's a reason for that... class.

van persie scores mostly poacher type goals just like inzaghi. Also his assists are nothing special either, just like inzaghi. RVP though has more strength and ball retention skill.

A better comparison would be with gilardinho or mario gomez. Effective players but nothing spectacular.

Btw your comparison with del piero is total madness! Del piero scored amazing goals from all angles and out of nothing in his prime. Also, he had sick passing vision and dribbling skill.

Van persie's assists are never clever through balls. Van persie assists are always short little passes in to feet or hopeful crosses from the wing. And his dribbling skill is non-existant.

Yes barca would love to have cavani and lavezzi, i guarantee you that.

Strangely, I kinda miss Kingnut in these discussion lol  He always had some crazy shit to say. His top 5 would probably have xavi, busquets, van der vaart etc haha.

QFT

RvP is playing his socks off nowadays. It's gotten to the point where whenever he gets the ball, everyone including the other team expects him to score.

Newcastle vs Chelsea - this weekend.

This could be tougher than the United game.

wow that was close, what a great final (maybe not for ManU fans). I thought the whole season that it would be very close so i didn't participate in the poll about which manchester team will make it in the end, but i wouldn't have thought it would be decided in the 95th minute in the last match!
