2011 Beyond Football Freestyle Competition
Our Official Beyond Football Competition for 2011 has started.
Prizes have now been arranged as have the judges. the prize will be a Pele Sports package with a t-shirt, shorts, shoes, hoodie and a ball + Oli Cherek's DVD + Skora's DVD + more to come.
Our 5 judges are:

Judging categories for the competition:
Technical difficulty
- how technically demanding are the tricks, combos and transitions
Execution
- how clean are the tricks that are being performed, as well as how good is the style while performing the tricks
Variety
- how much variation and originality the freestylers shows
Each category will be marked with grades from 1-10. That means the max number of points will be 150 (30 points x 5 judges)!
32 freestylers will go through the qualifications, with the number being split in half with every next round - 16, 8, 4 and finally 2!

they will come after prague. there will be a compulsory intro (the one 'dingo' uploaded except it will be slightly adjusted to incorporate the pele sports logo) and qualification will be a 1 min video, will sort out the deadline just after prague. atm just looking for participants

why do u have to be so cynical? all the posts you leave on beyond football are regarding something negative, never even one positive thing to say.
i have no problem with standing up to you just because you're the world champion - skora's dvd will be for sale in prague and Pele sports are doing lots for freestyle by giving away lots of free stuff in return for simply wearing their clothes.

@azun what better prize do u expect us to get? it's an internet competition, most of which don't even have prizes. perhaps considering its such a poor prize in your opinion you'd like to contribute your own possessions just like i have? your exact mentality is the reason this forum is in the slump that it is.

I didnt know it was "one of our own" that put in alot of work to get a price for this... and i guess its better then nothing, but i still think "free clothes from a brand" isnt a good price. It only benefit them..A sponsor should give money as a price...
If i though my dvd was any good. You could get one aswell, but its a reason i took it off sale...

Actually I'd like to give this a go, but knowing people like dantheman are entering...don't think my level is high enough! Could I join though or is it just for those high level people?

Because the BF intro alone is 17 seconds long, should we move the time limit for the qualification videos to 1:15?
Although it's great that Pele Sports has decided to give away something as a competition prize, I highly disagree that they're "doing lots for freestyle", because at the end of the day, they're just doing it to promote their brand.

well the main reason for me is win some respect in the community... for you there is no reason, and you are right, the prizes arent that good. But apart of win respect, for me is the perfect chance to work harder in my tricks and combos :)

Guaranteed that the new guys who have like 3 posts aren't going to make a video, pull out, make an excuse or just can't be bothered.
You should assume that 8 people won't make a video.

What about after the qualification? How many freestylers go through, 16? 1st place vs 16th place, 2nd vs 15th etc?

there wont be any direct battles until the final 2. you always have to score the highest possible number because after every round the number of competitiors will be devided by 2 ;) personally i like the system, sounds interesting

Oh I see it now in the original post, sorry I didn't see it before. However it says that 32 people go through, there are only like 30 people competing, and I doubt everyone will make a vid..16 people go through qualifications then?

another thing i wanted to say is online competitions are REALLY great for improvement...but the only way you'll see improvement is going in 100% from the first round, show 100% of your level, then challenge yourself to show an even higher level the next round (forcing improvement)....!

As Ethan said, more freestylers will probably join since we have until the 10th of September to submit. We just recently announced the start of this so hopefully even more jump in.
If all of you could post a link to this thread on your Facebook that'd be great. It would be nice if we could make this really big this year and bring the activity and competition back to the forum. :victory:

Ok since i am a judge for this competition i would like you to use songs that are not blocked in germany, because its hard work for me to download these videos and watch them. you can send me names of the songs you want to use in videos and i will check for you if they are blocked in my country.

I think the reason it's too much is that the competition will last too long. Why is that a problem? If I'm competing I would make sure I was free to make a video for a few weeks, if the competition lasts a few months, some people might be busy and not make videos. I'd rather have a full competition will a few less videos than a huge competition with many drop outs.
If you give freestylers more time but less videos to make they can produce a higher average quality of videos and not need to save clips for later rounds.

@Max: You don't have to download them, just watch them via hidemyass or something similar. ;)
@L_I_S: Yes, that is true. With 2 weeks between each round, the comp would last about 2 months. But, as I said, we'll see how many send in their videos and then make a definite decision.

Judging question: how should we define 10 points in a category? should we compare the freestylers to the best in the world or should we compare them to the best in the competition? I mean when it comes to difficulity should we define skora's lowers as 10 and then judge or should we compare the competitors to the best freestyler in the competition? hope you got what i mean

Ok i judged the first ten videos now and all i can say is the hardest part to judge is the variety part. i think the points given in this category will differ very much between the judges because if somebody shows only lower combos but some inside and outside moves and different tripple moves like 3ussian he will still get some point from me in that category because i know how difficult it is to pull all of these tricks of. but i think for example miran will give less points i think. i hope you agree with me on tht part, if not tell and give some good arguments.
as for the videos which are too long its ethans decision since he is the organizer. i judge every video but ethan has to decide whether the video is valid or not.

For the "how hard" part, we have the Technical category, which is just about the difficulty of the moves.
All of the judging categories apply allround/to all trick types.

@Sven: Nothing is REQUIRED, it's FREEstyle! You can stick to only one trick type if you want, like lowers for example, but you'll be much better off showing allround skill (=variety).

And where's the fucking rush? Just wait until the end of the week so Daniel & Petike finish with the comp in KL. In the meantime you can start filming clips for the next round.

honestly, can we not just wait until the judges are back from malaysia before we move on? you can already start recording clips for the next round and the worse thing that happens is you dont go through but youve still actually improved and recorded some good combos :O is that a tragedy?!?!

I was just remembering the old competitions where as soon as one round was over, the rules/date/timelimit for the next round was posted. And since I didn't see anything from Ethan on here, FB or twitter for the past days, and since he's the organizer of this group, and considering that two judges are not there for a whole week, I thought I could maybe ask what's going on. No need to freak out...

My anger was more directed at the other guy not you..he inboxed me being very rude and considering I put lots of time into this competition and am giving away my personal possessions as prizes I just ecpected a tiny bit more courtest from a few of the competitors...
Just wait a week, as I said already, start filming...the worse case scenario is that you don't go through but you have, hopefully, some great clips on video and you've probs made some improvement etc..!

Who's #1 after Round 2? I just watched all the submited videos and it's tough... there are about 5 videos that really stand out but the gap between the top and middle is very slim if you ask me.

I don't know.. I'm getting tired of doing all these videos...why don't we extend the deadline a little, and make this the final? A final with 4 people? Just an opinion from me, because I think 6 rounds in total is just too much..
