Well, the thread is self-explanatory.
I think they definetly used to be the best in the world in the past, but that's the past. Lately, you've got teams like Manchester United, Arsenal, Inter and Bayern even developing so fast. Just look how these teams brought talent to their clubs this year.
Madrid were eliminated in the first knockout round this year in the CL, and last year they were eliminated by Bayern.
No doubt, Madrid are the most successful club, but what about lately?
-
they're not t5hat good anymore...and if barca'd had a good season, Madrid would be in 2nd by a fair margin right now. I agree with Borg.
-
I've never seen a thread about Manchester United being overrated when they were eliminated in the group stages, or when they hadn't won a title for almost ten years...
Real Madrid is fresh off of a La Liga victory and almost onto another. Overrated? Far from it. In fact, i'd say they are underrated. They have players like Robinho, Snjieder, Raul, Ramos, and Guti (who leads La Liga in assits..surprise!) who are extremely underated when it comes to talent and skill. They are winning the league with a team that could barely pass for a "team of stars" as they used to be called when they had Beckham, Ronaldo, and Zidane. Madrid is far from overrated. And silly Aragones still won't consider Raul for the Euro. Please..
-
What I'm saying is that they used to be extraordinary, and now they're just ordinary. Before, they could get by teams easily, and now they're losing to teams in the CL. For the most successful club, you wouldn't expect that. Madrid is a good team, I'm not saying they aren't, but they aren't what they used to be. They died down, but people still expect them to be winning the CL like nothing.
They've just died down.
-
I don't know if they are overrated but they are not a great team anymore. To me they are just another good team; nothing sets them apart to be one of the best 3 teams in the world as they used to be.
ELITE, Guti is good but his problem has been consistency. In fact, that's the problem Madrid has had in general over the past 5 years. Don't get me wrong, Guti can be the best playmaker in Spain on certain days, but too often his inconsistency gets to him.
Madrid is still #1 in Spain, but that's where I'll leave it. All the Spanish teams seem to be beating up on each other and nobody is standing out this year. Last season, Barca and Madrid were by far the best, but this season it's been pretty damn close with nobody standing out. Real Madrid main obstacle will be the Champions League. They haven't been able to do well in the competition in so long, and as long as they keep failing in Europe, they won't be considered on of the best teams around.
-
Madrid is the greatest club in Europe and I'm not even a supporter. I'd always felt that Manchester United was the most overrated team in the world.
-
There are obviously waaay more overrated teams than Real Madrid. Liverpool and Manchester United are two prime examples.
Liverpool hasn't won a league title since 1990. Some big 4 team huh...
Real Madrid has won two champions league titles more recently than Manchester United's last champions league title.
I don't understand the point of this thread. Real Madrid has the most Champions League titles ever, yes, but this doesn't mean they can win it like hotcakes. You know, Manchester United has only won the UEFA Champions League ONCE. So what team is really overrated?

Twice. CL = European Cup.
I also do not understand the point of this thread.

Madrid are not overrated. come on.
a few bad seasons and suddenly they are shit. and there seasons are not so bad. it looks like back to back league chapions.
a lot of suprises happen in the CL. but i think all madrid need is a good coach and bring in some more technical playmakers.
remember the days of zidane, ronaldo, raul. you need player like them again.
-
they are not overrated, just take a look on players : Ruud, Robinho, Raul, Arjen, Snijeder
-
They're good, but not as good as they used to be, that's what I am saying. I don't see them as the best team in the world anymore. They're beatable, and even by smaller teams. And yes, every team has slip ups here and there, but all I'm saying, they're not the best anymore.
-

I haven't heard the "best in the world" title attached to the Real Madrid team in a while.
Sports results are cyclical, and at a club like Real Madrid, they tend to have years of "moderate" success then years of great success.
-
True; last time Madrid were the best team in the world was probably about 6 years ago.
-

robben is always injured, and when he plays 1% of his rushes have result and when he enters the penaltybox there's a chance of 95% that he will 'fall' when a defender is near
-
when history looks back at soccer. they will remember only one team
Real Madrid.
alll madrid need is a little shake up. and i am sure they will be back winng Champs leagues again

So Borg who do you think is the best club in the world?
-
Well, if you count history, then it's Madrid no doubt.
But as of now, there are many contendors and it's hard to tell. You've got strong attacking teams like United, Bayern, Liverpool, and Milan.
But every team makes mistakes so it's hard to tell.
United = FA Cup Defeat.
Bayern = Only in UEFA Cup this year.
Liverpool = Were struggling to make the top 4.
Milan = Not even close to winning the title and early exit in the CL.
There's no "best team in the world out there". You can have a series between teams and it will result in losses/wins, but it will be pretty even. In a few years, Arsenal will be up there because their players are growing, same with United, look at what an aging squad we have. Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Tevez, Anderson, Pique, Foster, Carrick. All these players have tons of years to look to.
-
Barca will be sick n future years too
-
theres no such thing as best team in the world but there are catagories like Madrid, Man U, Arsneal, Barc, Inter, Roma etc and every team has good and bad days the top teams all have great talent but its a matter of the blend of the team, and the profrmance on the day never ending concictancy is rare and the season Arsenal were untouchable they still didn't win the league, funny,
plus all the league have their heavy wieghts, under proformers and surprise packages so it all about the skill of not only one team but the opponents, the refs judgements and the condition of the pitch and who it favours
-
That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Great post Tito!
-
thanks i'm tring to change from my few word post and make a better contribution
i forgot to write that each team has a different style and each league also have there mid-table teams that don't go up or down
and its also impossible to say that a team is the best because is Roma beat Real and Inter beat Roma that mean that if Real was the best now inter is. i hate when people say things like that and seeing the i no-longer suport any EPL team you can expect no more bias but i will still have same views on some stuff.
