Title: Copa Challenge - Largest Online Freestyle Competition
Post by: Adi on Jan 31, 2011, 03:38: PM
Hello freestylers,

During the past number of years freestyle soccer and our community have grown globally and exponentially, and Copa Freestyle (www.copafreestyle.com) has created an online competition to discover new rising stars, new moves, and tricks that will amaze us all over again.

Beyond Football has teamed up with Copa Freestyle to host the largest online freestyle competition!  We have some awesome prizes and want to get everyone at Beyond Football involved.  As the admin of our community, nothing would make me happier than seeing all of you join the competition.

Our goal is simple – to crown the most creative freestyler in the world! We have assembled an esteem group of world renowned judges that will help in the selection; however, it will be the freestyle fans that will make the final selection.

The competition is real as are the prizes; our Grand Prize winner wins $10,000, the first such prize of its kind, along with a year-long sponsorship for mobile apps and games that could net even more dollars.  Besides the Grand Prize, there will be a $5,000 winner for the best freestyle photo.  Five additional $1,000 prizes will be given out by the judges as well.

There is tons of money going around and all of it can be won by simply uploading your video or picture to the website.  Face it, you got nothing to lose.  Top judges and other freestyle fans will get to watch your video and you'll have the chance to win a load of money.

Like I said, this is the first time Beyond Football is getting involved with another online competition.  We really want to make this a success.  Copa Freestyle came to us because they know we have the best freestyle community and freestylers.  Please upload your stuff whenever you have it ready.  We can have a lot more of these great prizes if we get enough involvement.  Let's come together and make this one badass freestyle comp!!!

Let's get a Beyond Football freestylers to win this!!!  Register for an account now and upload your best video (or picture) to www.CopaChallenge.com whenever you are ready.

Any questions?  Let me know...

UPDATE: April 14th

The voting system for the $10,000 prize has changed!!!

Due to people cheating with voting, judges will now make up 70% of the vote. The remainder comes from online voting.

This is much better. Post your video ASAP so you can help your chances with the 30% online votingportion! You still have time.

Sounds great! How many and who are the judges? Will there be an open voting system later on in the competition?

Is there a good freestyle video of him somewere from a few years back or something? By good I mean good at that stage in time.

Otherwise I can't imagine anyone wanting to be the "next" Eli freeze.

It looks like there are 5 or 6 judges.  Sean is one of them.  Check out this page for more info: http://copafreestyle.com/copachallenge/judges/ (http://copafreestyle.com/copachallenge/judges/)

I heard that Edgar Davids might be one of the judges as well.  I'm not sure if that's final though.

Each judge will pick their favorite for a $1,000 prize per judge.  Then, there is the grand prize for $10,000 which will be decided by the freestyle fans who vote in an open voting system.

When's the deadline for submitting videos/pictures?
The competition officially opened on January 3rd and closes on May 31st.  If I were you, I'd submit my video as soon as possible.  Make sure it's good though, so don't rush it either.  The longer it's up the more people will see it.

Check out the sample video that's uploaded on the Cope Challenge website: http://bcove.me/g0adhdad (http://bcove.me/g0adhdad)

It's more a commercial, but that appears where Eli Freeze is.  He seems to be taking part in some major events and commercials.  I think that's quite good.  Maybe he doesn't have extreme moves but he seems consistent and able to pull off the large events (e.g. Steve Nash event).

Check out his info on the judges page: http://copafreestyle.com/copachallenge/judges/ (http://copafreestyle.com/copachallenge/judges/)

is valid to every country...?
Yes, anyone can enter.  It doesn't matter where you a from.  This is for the entire freestyle community in the world!

I would suggest reading through some of the rules: http://copafreestyle.com/copachallenge/rules/ (http://copafreestyle.com/copachallenge/rules/)

Most importantly, the video needs to be 1 minute or less. Just read through it really quickly before you finalize everything.

Here you go ladies and gentlemen:

Quote
Considered the godfather of freestyle soccer in North America, Steve ‘Eli Freeze’ Elias founded Freestyle Soccer Inc. in 1999 and has served as the conduit for major advancements in the promotion of freestyle culture in the US and Canada since then.

Elias’ skill set was well-known at the beginning of the decade as he was the #1 ranked freestyler on the Nikefootball.com site for three straight years and the top vote getter between 2001-2004. He capped off his competitive career at age 34 when he outlasted a field of 150 and defeated 19-year old finalist Angelo Storms to take down the 2007 Red Bull Futbol de Calle finale in New York.

Best known for the Eli Swirl, Elias is credited with developing many new tricks over the years – and has featured them in promotions for leading companies such as Adidas, Budweiser, Carlsberg, Coke, DKNY, Gatorade, Hyundai, Kelloggs, Miller Lite, MLS, Pepsi, Sony and many others.

The jury panel is ridiculous, lol. Out of 6 guys, 1 and a half actually know something about freestyle football.

Nonetheless, it's definitely worth a shot.  :celebrate:
Title: Re: Copa Challenge - Largest Online Freestyle Competition
Post by: Adi on Feb 02, 2011, 09:40: AM
Exactly, it's worth a shot.  It will also help freestyle grow.  If we get a lot of participants, sponsors are going to stick around and the competition can continue to grow.  I don't see why this couldn't grow into a bigger competition than RBSS.  This one actually gives out big prizes.  Who knows, maybe we can make this an online and LP competition next year.  We just have to make this a success and then go from there.

As far as the judges are concerned, I too wish there was another big time freestyler on there or just someone who knows a lot about freestyle football.  I do like the producers that are on there, though.  Maybe they don't need as many but having two is pretty legit.  This will give the creative freestylers an advantage.  If you can't pull off the best tricks, you can make up for it by making a creative freestyle movie/commercial.  Try to be somewhat creative and use some good editing and recording.  Maybe we can help each out with that?

If anyone wants feedback on their ideas for the video, please post here and we'll let you know what we think. :great:
Title: Re: Copa Challenge - Largest Online Freestyle Competition
Post by: Miran Pirner on Feb 02, 2011, 11:26: AM
Of course, in a competition like this it's not a bad idea to have someone from another field of work, especially when it's indirectly related, but to have the majority of the jury panel like that isn't really the right way to go, IMO.

Simple example: If you show a decently directed/edited video with great freestyle skills and one that's the opposite, you can bet your ass they'll prefer the later. I even have my doubts if they'd realize if someone posted that FIFA Street 3 commercial as their video, someone should try it and see if it works.

Good thing is that the main winner is chosen by the people.  Online votes are the thing that counts for the $10,000 prize.  The judges will then pick 5 separate winners.  Not bad.

Not necessarily. Usually it's not the best person who wins but the person who knows the most people and can get them to vote or the person that spends all day making new accounts and voting for themselves.

Yeah, that's true.  It's not a perfect system by any means.  They do have systems in place to detect duplicate votes, however.  Hopefully it's a good and effective system.  We have a good amount of people here so we can use it to our advantage as well.  We'll create a thread and so more people see it.  This will help draw attention.  Still not perfect, but you gotta roll with it. :great:

The only video that I can think of which fits the description is the one from the Nikefreestyle.com competition, which held #1 spot for aaaaages, was definitely another level compared to the other videos. Can't seem to find it now...

Right, it's very hard to be better than computer maniacs who know everything about how to get more and more votes. I think "people's votes" is the worst option to participants. I don't  intend to spend 10 hours voting for myself. I don't know, maybe owners of that site earn some cash when people make lots of new accounts etc.
I will participate, but don't expect there's a chance for winning.

Like I said, they say they have ways to detect multiple votes from the same person.  Whether that's by IP, IP range, location, or whatever.  Hopefully it works out... we'll just have to see.

Please post your submissions here as well.  Would be nice to see what's being submitted.

Hey guys, I found out some more information on the competition.  The sooner you upload, the better it is for you.  The total number of votes you receive plays a part in where you rank for the overall $10,000 prize.  They look at average vote out of 5 stars and the total number of votes.  The longer your video is up, the more votes you will get.  They take weekly averages as well.

I suggest you register as soon as you can and upload your best video, then leave a link here so we can check it out and vote. :great:

Yes, same here, they should at least take those videos off the website and email the people who uploaded them, that the video shouldn't be longer than 60 seconds. Adi, can you ask them about this?

Hey guys,

I was wondering about the same after watching some videos last night.  I have emailed the organizer.  I will let you know what I hear.

Glad to see you all getting involved in the process. :great:
Title: Re: Copa Challenge - Largest Online Freestyle Competition
Post by: Adi on Feb 15, 2011, 05:57: AM
Alright, I got an answer for you.  60 seconds is video length they prefer, but you can go over.  They recommend staying in the 60-90 second range to keep the interest high.  As you can see, some of the longer videos on the website don't have as high of a rating.  I don't think people feel like watching a long video.

In the end, it's up to you but try to keep it within 60-90 seconds.  Please let me know if there are any other questions, and please submit your stuff as soon as you can so we can start voting for you.
Title: Re: Copa Challenge - Largest Online Freestyle Competition
Post by: SvenF on Feb 15, 2011, 07:51: AM
Thanks for the quick answer. So you won't be disqualified if your video is more than 60 seconds? Because 60 sec is quite short to produce a kick-ass video. I don't want to produce a 90 sec video and then after a few months of voting, they say that the rules say 60 seconds. Because I read a week ago that all the videos above 60 sec will be disqualified...

Can you edit videos also? I don't have Sony Vegas so i don't think it would be fair to those like me who don't got Sony Vegas.
Because Sony Vegas makes the video look cool with extra effects etc.
Photoshop should be ok, your resources shouldnt be everyones problem.

Editing makes videos better, so why not allow Photoshop? (my opinion)

Such a bad argument, IMHO.

You can achieve much much more by editing a picture, than by editing a video.

I don't have an HD camera, maybe they should ban high quality videos too? lol
Nobody is stopping you from getting Vegas and editing your videos.

He promised me that it's OK to submit videos over 60 seconds.  I wouldn't go over 120-150 seconds though.  I guess it all depends on what you're doing.  If you are doing a commercial or creative type of video with a plot to it, I'm sure 2 minutes wouldn't be a problem.  People will stay zoned in to see what happens.  On the other hand, if you're doing the same type of moves with little creativity, going 3 minutes long won't do you any favors.  I hope that makes some sense.  Either way, you're OK uploading over 60 seconds, but don't go crazy with it.

Editing of videos and pictures is allowed.  From what I can tell though, natural pictures seem to be ranking quite high right now.  Maybe people appreciate the pure shots.  I do see your concern though.

You guys are ALL idiot .... I spent 1 month in Canada freestyling with Eli freeze and the other canadians and he knows more than all you do about freestyle. his skillz are awesome trust me ! i have never saw someone doin freestyle like him ! maybe he doesn't know the name of the tricks but he still a legend for me

you dont need to know all the trick names to know a lot about freestyle. Do you think him , or anybody cares about the difference between aproll and rproll.
Nobody said that you need to know ALL the names (and I'm actually pretty sure that such a person doesn't even exist), but you'd expect that someone who knows "a lot about freestyle", knows AT LEAST the basics.

I have absolutely nothing against him personally, just stating the facts.

Couple of months left to submit.  You really need to submit earlier though so you can gain votes.  I believe it's on a per week voting basis.  The amount of votes and average vote is what counts.  Say you have 10 votes of 5/5, that's a total of 50.  If you have 20 votes of 2.5, you're also at 50.  So popularity and quality both matter.  We can help with the popularity portion if you post on here and your Facebook.

UPDATE:

You must submit your video as soon as possible!  The main prize is based of total votes and the average vote.  You need to upload your video now so you have the best chance of winning.  Upload your best video and post the link to the page on your Facebook and BF so you can get the max amount of votes! www.copachallenge.com (http://www.copachallenge.com)

Example:
photo Stall 2 balls - 2057 votes, 3.63

3.63*2057=7467

So judge? right?

Correct, I believe that's how it works.  There are also 5 separate prizes of $1,000 each that will come from the judges.

Update:

The voting system for the $10,000 prize has changed!!!

Due to people cheating with voting, judges will now make up 70% of the vote. The remainder comes from online voting.

This is much better. Post your video! You still have time.

Yeah, that's why I brought it up to them.  I thought it wasn't fair to you guys.

Please upload your videos ASAP so we can get more participants and make this a success.

To be honest, they were expecting a slightly higher participation rate.  Let's help this out fellas. :great:

Yeah, we caught him, so we're good now.  We should have a fair winner.  I suggest everyone post their video.  It's not that much work and with the quality we have on this forum, I know we can have a winner.  And it's a serious prize, not just change money.

No, it's still fine.  It will still help having more votes.

I heard they will choose the top 10 videos and then allow people to vote on them again.  This will draw more attention and weed out the crap ones.

Tried to enter the comp... uploaded my vid more than half of day ago, and it's not there on the video page, not even now, even though they say that the video "will be posted in the next 4-6 hrs" . So not keeping their word when it comes to rules and system of participating is not a very good thing !

Laura, your video doesn't have any sound as the music's blocked on YT... As for the video, your Ducking was completely unclean, but the Timo ATW and striptease were nice!  :great:

(I'm sure you'll get lots of great comments from horny Arab freestylers)

On a side note, the competition has been extended till July 4th, 12AM (EST):

I am very sorry for bitching about you posting my vid after 2 days and a half, when it said on the submitting form that youll (i dont know if 'you' is right because i don't know who are the organizers  ) post it in max 6 hours !
For a competitioon with this kind of prizes, and that is supposed to be the best/biggest online competition (after their saying) in freestyle, it should be top notch in every level of organization !

I have nothing to do with the organization of this competition, so I don't have anything to do with your video being posted or not... I was just checking their site and saw that your video has been uploaded, so I thought I might inform you of this.

1. This same issue (taking longer to upload than it's written) was noticed at the BEGINNING of the competition and if you bothered to check a bit, you'd see that in this very thread & it would've been something you'd expect and thus, you wouldn't get (so) crazy about it. ;)

2. Although I COMPLETELY agree with you about that this kind of competition should be flawless in every aspect of organization, you had 6 (SIX!) months to upload your video, but you chose to do it on almost the last day. Not putting the blame on you of course, just saying you could've uploaded earlier to avoid such complications (and to have more time for votes).

Thanks Miran.

There's only a few videos that are over 4 stars and that excludes All We Need Is Total Fascination by Sven, Bevs – 360 Degrees, Magnet’s Attraction which were all great videos. I decided to watch a 4.5 star video called my lifestyle by Ardhi Andriadi. Seeing as I really enjoyed the videos I mentioned that were rated 3.5 stars, I had high expectations of Ardhi Andriadi. I was quite disappointed to find that it was just another freestyle video.
Disappointed, but not surprised.

As Miran mentioned, the deadline has been extended to July 4th.  Sometimes it takes a few days for the video to be live on the website, so be patient.  They extended the timeline due to fake votes and people voting other videos low in order to make their own video look better.  They are using judges though so your online rating doesn't mean everything.

I'll post more info soon.
