Title: Doctor G.
Post by: G-Kid on Dec 17, 2010, 12:12: AM
Yooo yooo yooo.

Its G-Man here, most of you lot here probably know who I am from the old BF days, if not you do now.
At the moment i am currently in my Christmas holidays, so I’ve got alot of time aside from freestyle and studying so i should be online abit more.

I’ve spent a lot of time on this thread so far, so please read through it thoroughly and drop a comment; I’m doing this for YALL!!!! This was all hand typed so appreciate it muddafuckers, it took me much longer to write than you to read and It will change your freestyle career FOREVER. (And any other sport, art, subject etc)

Anyways, I’ve been rather on and off with freestyle in the 2010 year, however whilst I’ve been away I’ve gathered a large amount of freestyle knowledge purposely and sometimes accidently, which ended up relating to freestyle in some form or another. I’ve made this thread to pass on this knowledge and share with fellow freestylers; I don’t claim to be an expert btw. But I’d say I know more than the average freestyle chump.

Alot of the knowledge has been acquired from Books and websites i have read and some from a Psychology class I’m currently studying.
So in this thread imma give out some tips about training, performing, whatever you name it etc. Most of this thread is going to be in formal terms, however if you are desperate me to find the proper sources etc, I will do my best to find them, i will try and update this thread regularly and answer any questions you have.

I’m going to start off by talking about this whole "Natural" myth many people have in freestyle and sport. They have this theory that people are born that way and are naturally born achievers at this field that’s why they are better than you. I’ve heard so many people saying that Skora is naturally a better freestyler, or MP must be born with some kind of gift. Absolute Nonsense. I’ll tell you now; practice is greater than any natural kind of gift. There is not one Athlete out there who got there because they was “born that way” Its pure dedication. (Exceptions to every rule, e.g. Basketballers, Sumo wrestlers, Bodybuilders will benefit much more). However I do not blame you for believing this whole natural gift ideology, I believed it very much so. Mainly due to the fact the way the media feed you this and how it was very much accepted by everyone in the sporting field until late, where the myth is slowly and gradually is being destroyed.

However in 99% of sports, including freestyle, Practice is the key.  I’m going to now give an extract from the book “Bounce” a book based on this whole theory. (I will cut bits out due to the fact I’m typing this straight out from the book)

“In 1984 Desmond Douglas, the greatest-ever UK table tennis player, was placed in front of a screen containing a series of touch sensitive pads at the University of Brighton.  He was told that the pads would light up in a random sequence and that task was to touch the relevant pad with the index finger of his favored hand as a soon as he could, before waiting for the next pad to light up. All the other members of the table tennis team had already undergone the test and were ribbing him in the familiar manner of team rivalry”. After a minute the task ended and Douglas team mates gave him a round of applause. Douglas grinned as the researchers left the room to collect the results… After 5 minutes, the researcher returned. He announced that Douglas’s reactions was the slowest in the entire England team, he was slower than the juniors and the cadets-Even slower than the team manager”.

Think about it rationally, surely table tennis requires great natural instinct reactions which you was gifted through genetics? How can the man who is recognized for his magnificent speed at table tennis be the slowest there?  Surely this doesn’t make sense?
The writer goes on to explain how it is all down too how much Douglas had practiced and how he had practiced in a closed environment which also benefited him. He goes on to suggest that to be the top of a sporting field, be a master so to speak, it requires an incredible “10,000 Hours”. (May be different with freestyle with it being a relatively new sport).
So this shows that Practice is the key? Yes.

“If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery,  It would not seem so wonderful at all” – Michelangelo, Arguably the greatest artist ever.

However in freestyle a lot of people have seemed to accept this. A lot of people realize that it is mainly down to practice and nothing else. I see threads on here all the time asking “HOW OFTEN DO U PRATTTTICE MAAAYN” Or commenting on Skoras video going “HE HAS NO LIFE HE TRAINS 48488574774676 hours a day”. Obviously Pawvel has trained a lot, however I bet know, if you trained as much as him, clocked up as many hours as he has, you would improve, but I very much doubt 95% of the freestylers on this forum reach the heights he has. Well surely G, this destroys your whole practice theory? No, not at all, it opens it up further.
Think about it, many of you will be too young to drive, so look at your parents but if you can drive, this relates to you. This is another extract from the book entitled “Bounce”.

“How many hours have you spent driving your car? I spent a little time working this out recently and figured that I have averaged 12000 miles a year since passing my driving test, more than twenty two years ago, adding up to a 264,000 miles in total. At an average speed of thirty miles an hour, that means I have spent almost precisely ten thousand hours at the wheel”.
“But I am not a world class driver. In fact, I probably have more bad habits now, and less knowledge of the rules of the road, than when I passed my test. I know what you are thinking, doesn’t this undermine the entire thesis of the book so far... What happens when I drive my car? I am certainly clocking up countless hours at the wheel but does this constitute the acquired of knowledge? It is not as if I’m straining to improve. Rather, my mind is on other things, I am figuring out what to make for dinner, I am speaking to my passenger, I am listening to the radio and strumming my fingers against the steering wheel, in fact, I am driving on AUTOPILOT”.

This is the main problem with your training sessions, You are training on “Autopilot”. Doesn’t it baffle you that the driver improved way in the first 3 months of his driving career (when he was learning) when he was fully attentive on the road ahead, trying his best to improve, no distractions, 100% training efficiency etc”. Most of you in a freestyle session will train for 3 hours, flicking through your ipod, texting girls, or guys in Ethan Altman’s case ;) You will be attempting a trick every minute, then walking around having a think, sometimes you’ll be free styling and be thinking and not even realize your actually trying the trick!!! If you’re nodding right now going “THAT’S ME!!!!” Don’t worry, I was the same and so are 99% of the freestylers out there”   When the likes of Oli cherek, MP, Skora, ARS, Azun etc train, they will be training on full efficiency and will be pushing themselves and their ability to the limit each training session.  They will be making sure they have improved each session, have you ever had a session where at the end you think “Ive not even learnt anything new”? I certainly have.  The average freestylers training session of 3 hours will be the same of what Skora, Mp etc Does in one hour.

So the two main factors in practice is, Train a lot, but train efficiently too.
“Its now how much you train, Its how you train” – Lindroth. I agree 100% with this quote, So if a freestlyer  A trains with 100% effort/concentration in there session trains 2 hours a week, then freestyler  B who his always on autopilot, half heartedly training, trains 10 hours a week, it is likely freestyler A will learn more.  However lets meet Freestyler C, who trains 10 hours a week, but has the effiency freestyler A has, and trains properly. This is how the best freestylers are made.
There is so much more detail to go into, and much more topics, I will happily update this and I will explain the whole “Russian/Polish freestlye Phenomenon” Why some freestylers choke on stage,  What genre of music is best to listen whilst freestyling and many more topics.

Can I ask mods don’t move this topic into a different thread, there all about as dead as Micheal Jackson.
Ask any questions and discuss this, and ill update with more detail, explanations and many more tips.
Ill leave you with this short tip, always drink lots of water when your freestyling, “If the Human body is dehydrated by just 2%, it will result in a 20% Drop in concentaration"

Thankyou, G.

that was cool to read mate.  :sign0098:

I agree too. For the past 2 years I haven't been improving much coz a lot has been going through my mind, unlike when I trained in the 1st 3 months of my fs practice. I would just focus on how to get latw, tatw etc... now it's just for fun... Hopefully I'll get back to my hardcore, fully-focused training sessions.

Probably the most useful thread ever on bf!
I have a question G, i follow boxing and i have often read things and styles being a born gift. Like they say big punchers are born, there is no way a man can develop that kind of strength through training like Tyson or what George foreman had. Likewise, the ability of fast hand-speed and motion like Ali are natural too. So i think we will always be as different as our DNAs. We should go to discover ourselves than be wanting to be like someone else. Share your views please.

Thank you for this thread, it was definitely very useful for me. Some of the stuff I knew already, and some .. I can't say shocked me, but somehow encouraged me as I didn't know this & that.

Best thread on BF, atleast for me.
Well written Mr. G, and thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us :sign0098:

This old man I know always tells me 'dont work hard, work smart'. But I think working hard and working smart are equally important for anything you do.  Freestyle requires mental effort because there is a lot of technique involved. But also physical effort. Nice post :PDT_Armataz_01_37:

Very clever post. This is something that I've been thinking about these recent months.  But now I actually do focus alot better on my sessions.

What do you think about training when you've got muscle ache from previous practise?
Should you rest or keep going?

to reach maximum efficiency, does your mind/psychological stuff come into this? like mentally preparing yourself before a training session. (Mentally rehearsing the trick over and over in your mind? every stage of the trick, every motion, etc - a bit like elaborate rehearsal?) what's your tips doctor g?

i agree that all skills are training..but i think people are born with an interest in the skill, which means that they will practice longer and better than anyone, without having to plan their practice.

You'd have to have some creepy genetic stuff going on there. You can't be 'naturally' born with an interest. You can be brought up in an enviroment which encourages an interest in freestyle but that wouldn't make much difference

Ok, now I understand that your thinking about the whole football/freestyle link while I'm thinking about skills in general.

The way I see it is there are different aspects within football. Skill with the ball is just one of them. People who are interested in this aspect are more likely to freestyle.

Great post G! I agree with everything you said. I think that the misperception very many people have that there is something called natural talents which determines so much, is caused by football. I think so, because there are so many football players, and only the best will get known. Media often gives us the impression that they were born football players, and that if you're not, you won't succeed as a football player. I agree with you though, the desire to practice is the greatest talent. Anyways, it was a great post. Have you read anything more in particular in terms of practicing efficiently? If you have some ideas and tips, I'll gladly make it a sticky.

That was good, but....
Most of people that are the best in javelin throw are white, black people are naturally not that wise/technically adequate to be good at it. And because FS Football is really much about the technique as well and there is not many black people doing it in some high level, I still think natural predispositions play role in how much you improve.

Wtf?

The reason is probably because freestyle hasn't appealed that much to them. Golf, basketball, football or any other sport were black people have dominated takes alot of technique.
No one is a natural. Peoples interests are what matters to me.

Some kids like drawing when their young, therfore if they've never touched a ball until 12 years old when they want to play football or something they're usually not as good as those that were interested in ball-type of sports when they were younger.

You are fucking retards, I expected that some people will take it as a racist post. G is right, , but genetics still matters. But I don't care about your opinions, I spoke to people that have knowledge far bigger about sport than you, so stfu   :039:

You said that people with black skin arent "wise or technically adequate" enough to be good at freestyle... now, i dont give a shit about your knowledge of sport, i dont care if it is bigger than mine, i dont care if you know more about sport than anyone in the world... i found your post very offensive, racism does not belong on this forum and it does not belong in freestyle.

But it's scientifically proven, just like average black man has biggest **** (I think you get what I mean), so now it should be even. I'm sorry if I offended someone, but if it's a fact, how would you put in on the keyboard yourself?

oh my god, you are far more stupid than i thought... that thing about black people having a bigger dick is a myth, its not scientifically proven... omg, idiot.

Let's see where to go off of this.
1. You did not state a "fact." What you stated was a prejudice. A "prejudice" is a before hand conception judging people in an unfavorable way. What you said has next too zero evidence to support it. If you took any sociology class you'd realize that there is this thing called "Nature vs. Nurture." Nature is the traits you are born with, the things that you cannot control. Nurture is the way you are brought up. (This is the shoddy version of it, it goes way beyond this.) Anyway, Nurture is what most sociologists will agree affects the way you behave and the activities you are involved in. So, if your brought up in an environment that promotes football, you will LIKELY (not always) but likely be influenced to play football. The people who influence you will also contribute to how much time and effort you put into it. Thus showing your skill level. Therefor skin color does not effect your ability to play the sport, the people around you (for the most part) do. Whether they contribute in a positive or negative way.
Too make this simpler, you are a product of your environment.

2. The fact that you are referring to the entire African community as "them" is terrible in itself. Obviously you don't realize how offensive your being. By saying they have "Big Dicks" and expecting everything to be ok is hilarious. You insult an entire community and because you compliment them on the size of their dicks you think it's better?
P.S Not every black guy has a huge dick. Once again, you have no evidence to support that.
P.S.S What you said was indeed another prejudice which cannot be supported.

3. Please cite your sources about these people with "far more knowledge about the sport than us." I'd really love to see what they have to say.

4. I cannot even fathom the fact that you called bevs an idiot. Read your post several hundred times (because you might not realize it right away) and think of who the real idiot is.

5. "Black people lack wisdom and technique" (paraphrased.) Go look at Martin Luther King or Malcolm X. You want technique? Look at Malcolm Tyson or Tiger Woods. There's a million examples of blacks who have done more than you could ever dream of doing.

6. Your ENTIRE post is subjective to your own thoughts. Not facts. Please use some REAL facts instead of your biased claims. "It was more fun when Oli was here." Oli was strongly against racism. In fact, I can't think of a time when racism was ever fun. If you could show me something funny about it please feel free to share.

7. If you want an intelligent answer, state an intelligent response.

That was good, but....
Most of people that are the best in javelin throw are white, black people are naturally not that wise/technically adequate to be good at it. And because FS Football is really much about the technique as well and there is not many black people doing it in some high level, I still think natural predispositions play role in how much you improve.

So what applies for Asians and Hispanics?

Genetically, Black people(particulary those of West African descent) are better at sports. This is down to there ethnic group and the way they have evolved to the enviroment around them. People of West African descent are better at sports because they have more type 1 fiber muscles than any other ethnic group. This muscle fiber is better for more explosive quick movement. This is why some of the biggest sport stars in the world are black e.g Usain Bolt, Lebron James, Drogba. While Eastern Africans are some of the best long distance runners in the world because they have type 2 fiber muscles which are suited to durability, which is why we see Ethopia and Kenya dominating in various long distance running events. In the world today it is clear the reason more black people arent dominating various other sports is because that the black community is located in lower income areas(does not apply to everyone). With improved facilites in the populated black areas Im sure that many sports would be dominated by black people.Whos to say Ghana or the Ivory Coast cant win the world cup in a few years with improved facilities? @Onas your comment is racist but the reason black people dont dominate sports such as Javelin is not because they dont have the technical capability but because they are not supplied with the facilites to compete in these events. It is this reason that is holding the black community from dominating world sport. And yes you will get other sports stars from various ethnic groups which will compete at the top level but the Fact of the matter is In general black people are genetically better at sports.

That's true to an extent, but that's not what I was arguing. Onas said "blacks aren't technical enough for freestyle or wise." - something like that (I don't feel like re-reading his garbage.) His post was racist because he SAID blacks cannot do a certain thing based of their race. It's arguable that they are genetically better as far as muscle goes, but the difference between muscle and a sport is huge. Muscle is what prepares you for a sport, a sport is the concentration and determination you put into it. Look at Mirko, his body is ectomorphic but he is able to do insane amatw nt and matw nt combos with the little (I say that not to belittle you Mirko) muscle.

Onas said they're not capable of achieving great heights in fs, concentration outweighs muscle any day.

you guys calling him fuc*head or whatever without giving him a chance to explain himself is not less than racism.
I follow boxing and i have exactly the same question as he had.
last month when Manny Pacquiao won the 8th division title and proved he is the best pound for pound ever. the first criticism he got was that he never fought a black guy and they have the 'slick' style in the sport which makes them good and could give manny a hard time.

Clearly that has nothing to do with it. Such a moronic statement needs to be backed up with at least 1 reliable source.
Then he goes on with a second statement, it's hilarious.

I never said that Onas was a racist, I just thought it was an incredibly unintelligent statement. Obviously he wasn't acting like a racist he just wanted to act smart and come up with something he thought sounded clever.

Before you read this, i must warn you, i am quite drunk because its christmas day, so if it makes no sense, give me a break :)

tbc: im sorry you were disappointed by my posts... however i must disagree with what you said, he did say it about FS, he used javelin as an example and then said FS is the same. Now i know exactly what you mean when you said "its just people start screaming racism when they hear the word black", i totally agree and i hate that... However, my posts were not like that, my biggest problem was with him saying that black people arent "wise" enough and thats why they arent successful at javelin/FS... in my opinion that is a racist comment and no1 will ever convince me otherwise. He was generalizing an entire race and it seemed as if he was saying they weren't smart enough to be good at it... However, i do understand that his word choice may be because of the language/cultural barrier that exists between people from different countries on this forum. He may not have meant the statement how i read it. Either way, it offended me and thats why i felt compelled to post.

anyway, sorry if i may have caused the thread to stray from its original topic.

Merry Christmas, love you all! even Onas :)

Samuel, did you modify one of your posts? I was reading some comment like "training takes muscles anyday" which is complete bull, cause everyone has their own limits. Anyway, if it wasn't yours, then Im sorry :o)
The guy who told me the thing about javelin throw was a handball trainer. And when he said that, why I shouldn't believe him? There werenT much of black throwers that I could think of at the moment and and it has been proven that Europeans have higher IQ than Africans or people from East Asia are more intelligent than Europeans.
Just an example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lynn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lynn)
I know some physiotherapy doctors and athletic trainers, so when I'll meet them, I'll ask them what do they think.
And I dont really get that "stereotype and campaing" thingy when only one white man made 100m under 10 seconds and only one white man made 10 km under 27 minutes.
THe thing about freestyle was just a thought, maybe black people are going to be even better in freestyle because of their capabilities. Some people in here have responded like intelligent beings, sharing some interesting info, but most of people have answered like useless immature fags.
Btw, sorry Bevs, I wish you Merry Christmas too.

Btw, sorry Bevs, I wish you Merry Christmas too.
the wiki article says his research in controversial. no one is more intelligent based on what part of they world they belong to. its just the availibilty of resources, school/colleges etc. i figure we should stop talking about this anymore.
and BevS i love you too! great freestyler ftw.

The thing is when coming up with some sort of a theory like your first statement, you need to provide some sort of evidence. There are several things I'll agree with you on. Those things that have been proven.

@ August
This is a forum for discussing, this is something that the forum needs even though it means taking a thread a little bit offtopic. Even though onas first statement was stupid. I get what he's aiming at.

Will be interesting to see what G has to say.

I think that anyone nomatter their race can become a great freestyler so long as they practice heaps!
Look at RBSS many different ethnicities represented in the top 16

LMAO!

how many races do you think exist? and out of the top 16 there are only a few who aren't white.

You may have missed the point i was trying to make

I actually think that I got it..

Obviously ALL the ethnicities which represent the top 16 are going to be different, you can have 2 people from the same country competing, it's clear that you can't distinguish race and ethnicity.

Race = White, Black, Asian, Hispanic

Ethnicity = German, Russian, Swedish etc.

You are very correct with that statement, and my intent is not and has never been to prevent discussions; however, this thread has gone beyond just a little bit off topic, so I'd like to bring it back to where it started. I also do find what you're discussing interresting, but it doesn't belong in this topic, nor in this section. Therefore, I suggest you to create a new topic in the general section about races and differences between races. If the majority would like to stick to this race discussion however, I'll let you do so. I'm here to keep the discussions moderate and disiplined hence the name moderator. I'm not to be the dick no body likes.

Let me breaking down for you racists. In most cases, you are your surroundings. If you're brought up in the ghetto where you're unlikely to recieve a decent education, what will the average intelligence be? Low.
If we take those same people and give them a better upbringing from the very start, they will have the same average intelligence as anyone else with that same upbrining. Other factors can come into play such as culture, religion etc
Anyway, what does intelligence have to do with freestyle? Are you trying to make freestylers seem clever lol? We're just doing shit with a ball!

lol no. Especially no to 'white'. You have anglo-saxons, mongol, anglo-celtic, mestizo etc. I'm sure the same applies for the other races.

Btw, sorry Bevs, I wish you Merry Christmas too.

Why didnt you question where the handball trainer got his info from? If the handball trainer
told you to shower in salt water before a javelin throw would you do it? Wouldnt you question
him at all?  :017: That was just a random example though  :ecomcity:.
There are not many black javelin throwers, but dont you think the main reason is lack of access
to the equipment and facilities for javelin and even exposure to the sport?
You also seem to be ignoring some of the questions people ask you. Like when someone talked
about tiger woods and other blacks who show incredible technique. How do you explain those guys
like pele and ronladinho etc. I dont sense any hatred or anger from you so its not bad racism.
But still i think your first statement was prejudice. Maybe im misuderstanding you because of
language/cultural differences, as bevs said.

If you still remember the main thing of this topic I would like to say I completely support the opinion about "no talent, just training". FF is just about that and I hate people telling me "man, you are so talented" cause its bull shit.
When I was starting playing football 12 years ago I was ugly fat kid. And if anyone would say I am gona do sth with ball and be good at it I laughed my ass off. I stayed ugly but everything I can do now is result of hard training and litres of sweat... And I didnt need a talent or any other shit. Just ability to move my ass and do sth. So I dont understand why everyone aimed to go to that Talent shits just to be in TV when nobody can tell he is talented or gifted.

big up, instead of spending time on bf waiting for a new post that you think can make you a freestyle master just move your ass and train till you collapse. those posts from Gman are cool and interesting, may give some tips also
BUT
there are no secrets, just get the ball and freestyle, you'll find out your best way to improve by actually doing something, not reading some post.

Please, dunnowhois. No matter who you are, or how good you are, please stop these kinds of posts. Rather than doing something to put people down, why don't you try contributing by positive means?

Ahahahah, Dr. G, all what you wrote was obviously, 1stly, 2ndly, basic physical conditions of each man is different, that's why 'basic' progress is different too, here you were wrong.
All BF community is like herd of rams again :D "OOOOOO, Dr.G, you are genious" even knowing that all what he said is obviously again.
And how do you wanna tell, for example, me the secret of 'explosion of freestyle' in Russia? :D You failed when you named yourself Doctor, BF-community will pray on you all the time just because you can write much, which will be good to listen to, nothing new was said...

@ankhoashakavkat - his contribution to Russian freestyle is incredible
because of him russian freestylers can reach a high level after 1-2 years of practicing.
while for some guys on bf it takes 4-5 years to learn tatw-matw nt

Your post was on the 5th and now it's the 10th, you've had more than 48 hours. This thread has de-railed and I can see some personal attacks rising from this.
I'm going to lock this topic. When you finish whatever you are doing(I didn't read the first post LOL), make another thread.
If you want to make tutorials or discuss Leha's contribution to freestyle...just make a damn thread.
