Title: Training
Post by: sfreestyler on Jul 30, 2009, 06:24: AM
Hey guys, i just need to know something about training for freestyle. Basically i started freestyling a while ago, but i havnt taken it seriously until now. I can already do all the simple tricks such as, atw, head stall, neck stall - but i want to improve. So im wondering, how many hours a day did you train for when you started freestyling? And how many tricks should i focus on each day and for how long? Please help. :)

From Shane

An hour a week

The beggining of the career is where freestylers normally practise as most I, would guess

I practised about 4 hours a day in the beggining

you can never be too focused on a trick

maybe 3 hours a week

3 to 4 hours a day wen you are a begginer and practice in section like 45 min sits 45 lower and uppers and the tricks will come out naturaly your body will get use to the movement and things will get easier every week

i trained the wrong way, only on lowers, so dont do the same mistake, practise all types! Lowers, Sits and uppers!;) Practise as much as you want to, but not to much, because then you will get very stiff(dont missunderstand xD) and it might hurt if you dont stretch out after each time;)

I have a question, how should a beginner practice for sits? I have a hard time juggling the ball more then 5 times on sits.

Thanks

Basicly you have to do it like with the air moves. At first you learn to juggle and then you move on to learning the easier tricks such as reverse crossover, crossover and x-over. Then as you get better your control increases and you can try doing them in combos and learning the tricks with both feet.

Good luck

I train hour a day, but when I was beginner, it was like 3-4 hours a day. Making your own training will be the best, but my hour training consists of 10 minutes hatw, 10 minutes htw, 5 minutes atw, 15 minutes latw, 10 minutes hatw, 10 minutes htw.

I'd change it to 09-12 -> 2 hour break - > 14-17
The 2 hour break should give you enough time to make some food and fill up on carbs so that you have energy for your next practice

Sure mate, that's good aswell. I'm just a little curious on how you plan to practice, what level you're at and where you are planning to practice because the weather might affect you negatively during these time periods.

Yeah the weather has been a big problem for me to train, especially living in the UK - the weather sucks. So i'll be training in my garage when its raining and im only at beginners level, i can already do the easy, simple tricks.. so im basically a beginner.

Some people say 4 hours a day.. Remember he is a beginner! Personally I'm very tired after 3 hours, so that I can't do anything then.. As a beginner, practicing more than 1 hour a day will only increase the risk to have some injuries, because the legs/body isn't used to the movements.. Well at least that's what I think.

lol if he was a beginner and all 4 hour-training tried to achieve, for example,  magellan, he would have some problems, otherwise - no...

You wont do 6 hours a day as a begginer, i promise you that.

And if you say you have, your only lying to yourself.

I think 3 hours is fair enough for a beginner or not.
4-5-6 hours sounds like to much, unless it's a meet or something
6 hours by one self, idk but sounds boring.

Right, ive got something like 4-5 weeks before i have to go back to school. Year 11 next year, my final year

Anyway, do you think if i trained everyday for the next 4-5 weeks, id of covered the basics of freestyle and start busking a little?

Surely mate! For busking your level isn't that relevant. I started busking when I was at the level of just being able to do strong foot crossovers sitting down and some x-overs. Of course you don't have to follow my footsteps but in my opnion you need atleast a little sit down skill before you start any type of performing. The basic stalls and around the world tricks is a little boring for non freestylers after 3 minutes.

Where are you from sfreestyler?

Im from Leicester, England. Call me shane by the way. And also, would busking on football match days, outside the stadium be a good idea? Im guessing it would because they're all footy fans.. and thousands of people passing every minute.. has anyone busked outside a stadium on match day? How much money did you make? Etc
