Paul Harvey is my manager plus a mate of mine and i would appreciate it if you didnt call him a retard since you have absolutley no idea about who he is or what he is like.

the reason it says he is the "director of freestyle football" because he is the director of his company which is called "freestyle football"...

Also, Paul is doing amazing things for the sport of freestyle. He has given all of us aussie freestylers massive promotion and opportunities over the last year, and he is spending every waking moment tryign to make the sport more popular. No one on here realises it yet but the stuff thats happening here in australia is probably going to improve the sport immensley. This year, we have a national freestyle league which is being filmed at the moment that will be shown on fox sports every week for 6 months. Our red bull street style tournament is being promoted unbelievably, and the finals are being turned into a TV show to be shown on FOX8. Here we've been touring the country doing performances all over time place giving the sport exposure, its pretty much full time for me at the moment.... and ALL of this is thanks to paul... where else in the world are freestyle battles shown on tv week in and week out, what other rbss national qualifyer is being turned into a tv show?

If it wasnt for paul, freestyle in australia would still be nothing, and my life would be nowhere neer as exciting as it is. So back the fuck off and give the guy a break.

thats great that hes promoting it... maybe one of you australian freestylers can explain to him that its not a bi-product of football, and that ANYONE can be a great freestyler, and you dont need to be a skillfull player at all...
Or is that your opinion as well?
Title: Re: Really Retarded RBSS Interview

that wouldnt be good for promotion...im sure he understands, but he is a business man and this is how he sells.

well ok i guess money talks, but still i mean he is discouraging many people who might be interested when he says you need to be a skillfull player and not anyone can do it

I dont have the energy nore do i give a shit enough to be bothered discussing any of this crap... the only reason i posted anything was because paul is mate of mine, and he has done so much for me and all the other aussie freestylers, as far as im concerned he can say what he fucking well likes because hes doing a fantastic job at promoting freestyle and thats all there is 2 it... if i have a problem with what he says, ill tell it to him... if you have a problem... you should email him at paul@freestylefootball.com.au

look at this from a business point of view for 1 second. if ppl know something is easy and everyone can do it, will they pay more or less to see a show?
i disagree with it too, but to him this is a business oppurtunity.

why should i want to email him? i dont care about explaining what freestyle is to people like him, he wont care/understand....
anyway if hes promoting freestyle then thats great, but promote it in a correct manner that will encourage kids...
when we go busking parents always ask if its a skill that can be learnt by anyone, and when we reply that all it takes is practise, the kids are always like woooow i can do that...
if we just told them "no, you need to be an elite member of society" it would be stupid
If i had a tv interview i would clearly just say that freestyle has absolutely nothing to do with football
Title: Re: Really Retarded RBSS Interview
Post by: BevS on Jul 12, 2009, 02:05: AM
you should email him because bitching about him calling him a "retard" on an internet forum is weak and stupid... especially since you know nothing about him. You only post that shit on here because you assume hes never going to read it, if you really felt that strongly about the matter, you'd email him so he would actually read it and then you may be able to change what he says next time... and for you to say "people like him wont care or understand", people like him? again you know fuck all about him and you are in no position to make that comment. If you emailed him with your honest concern, he'd probably listen and take your opinion into account because he actually cares about freestyle, and what the freestyle community thinks. He even has an account on this forum and occasionally posts. I can only hope he doesnt stumble accross this topic because if he reads what you twats are saying about him after all hes done for your sport, he'd probably think "why bother".

EDIT: in your first Post, you said "if i was there and i heard that i would tell him hes a fucking retard"... then i gave you the opportunity to do so, and you said "why should i"... well you should because you said you would tell him... but you dont want to because you never would have said it to him in the first place and your just typing a load of horse shit.

A bi-product of football.

I dont think thats the idea Redbull are going for with the comp.

The interview wasn't that bad though, fair play to the guy for setting all this shit up. Last year there wasn't even a RBSS in Aus and now all this. The aussie fsers deserve all the opportunitys this director dude is giving them and thats all that matters imo.
Title: Re: Really Retarded RBSS Interview
Post by: Miran Pirner on Jul 12, 2009, 05:36: AM
This is getting a bit messy, there's no need to fight over a topic like this.

But I agree with a few things said here:
1. That he's doing a great thing for Australian fs and giving you guys a chance to show your talent.
2. What Macca said is true, one of the main reasons Red Bull is doing this competition is to promote their brand and by saying "not everyone can join" isn't what they would've wanted. Also, if you "restrict" people from joining the competition, that's not really promoting the sport and you're not really encouraging people to give it a go. You don't have to say that it's not for everyone for people to think it's not easy, you can simply say/explain that it takes much practice, dedication, etc.
3. Although he's "running the show" and has done a lot for you, doesn't mean that it should be fine that he says whatever. The same way that just because Red Bull is doing the competition, doesn't give them the right to turn it into a football entertainment show... That said, he could change some things he says in the interview or at least say them differently.

BTW, I'm sure Harvzzz will come across this topic and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing and I don't believe he's gonna take it personal and give up on everything after all the effort he already put into it.

P.S. Bevs, don't take these things personal, because they most certainly aren't.

BeVS, calm down man... I know if I'm in a position like you do, I'd probably go all out to defend the guy as well, but try to look in others' perspectives. Dan has got something right:

1/ Freestyle is NOT a biproduct of football.
2/ Anyone can join, no matter what age, gender, or ethnicity. All it takes is practice.

I know you guys are more and more into the "business thang" like all the Monta crews and some more pro freestylers, but no need to worry. Although you say that everyone can practice, most people will not get to the "ATW" part, because they got discouraged before they could do the ATW. Understand me? So when you're saying things like "everybody can join, it's all about practice", people will get home, practice for someday and get frustrated and call it quits, then you guys achieved 2 things:

1/ Tell them that you guys are exceptional, without actually saying it.
2/ Get the fame of being someone who tries to encourage people.

Isn't that more wonderful?

And btw, I don't like the no hands rule. That rule is just stupid, but like Azun said, it isn't FREESTYLE but freestyle FOOTBALL> :nopity: We're the ones who really responsible in this i guess.

if he truly belive that freestyle is just for the most skillfulled players of football, and that its a BI product. then for me he is kind of a hater and negative person and he is really far away from me when it comes to what i belive freestyle should be...

"Football" freestyle is a new sport coming up. and we dont need managers to tell us what is the best for it, they just think fast MONEY!

i respect his point of view about this... but he should not talk like he knows best!.. even if he is your friend and so, that have nothing to do with anything. its just his statements in a interview that kind of piss me off!

this is the beginning of something big, if we let managers controll our sport in this stupid direction, then freestyle will not be a new popular sport world wide. It will be something football players that was not good enough for the game doing.
like freaking clowns before the real game.

pff so sad so sad.

Retard here.  :rockit:
Anyway dosen't bother me that much heard it all before. But here is my right of reply. BevS thanks so much for backing me up you are a mate and people dont understand what we are doing downunder yet, but they will. So thanks.
Maybe what I said may well have been politically not correct in terms of calling freestyle a bi product of football. BUT to explain to people out here in Australia what it is I need to explain it in terms of what people understand and they only see people like Ronaldo etc doing it on tv so when I explain that, they get what Freestyle is and Ronaldo is a Football player correct me if I'm wrong so the link with football will always be there. Another point is the that every fucking game in Australia is called Football (Rugby League, Union and AFL so again that is another hurdle I have to overcome when explaining it)
Dan if you have an explanation that I should use to explain freestyle that appeals to the masses so they get it please email me, then your critism is constructive. To say it has nothing to do with football is crazy, sorry but for Freestyle to get anywhere it HAS to be linked to football in some way as it is the world game and has so many opportunities to showcase Freestyle to its target audience. Yes I know you dont have to be into football to do freestyle but it alot of people from my experience have played football.
In terms of being elite well it is we have about 30 freestylers here in Australia and to use and example of how Freestyle may well go is Motocross yes most people can jump on a bike and can ride but not many people can then do a backflip on one over a jump as they do in freestyle motocross. This is the same with football and freestyle everyone can kick a ball but not that many can juggle a ball. Please read on next post!

My company is called Freestyle Football and I am a director of it so that is correct. I spend 24/7 promoting Freestyle out here and that we have done over 80 paid live shows in less than six months means we are doing something right and taking it forward in the right direction. BUT yes we are all still learning and I make mistakes (I am a retard remember!!!) sometimes so  please feel free to email me if I do  but main aim is make Freestyle Football popular worldwide (not just in Australia)  so more Freestylers can earn a living out of it. That means I'm not going anywhere and if you dont like what I have planned then fair enough but as you can see my team know I have there best interests at heart.

Now for the shameless plug. :bang:
Our Team is called Trick Star Freestyle Football. Our website is www.freestylefootball.com.au and we are not extreme we are extremely good!!
Thanks very much
Harvs

Wow, didn't know you're going to get into this forum. OK, at least we know you're an open person. But I think that you should adress freestyle something like this: "Freestyle is a different sport from football, from freestyle you can get the touch and foot-eye- coordination, which is really important in football as well, but, freestyle and football are 2 different things". If you adress it like that, it makes both freestylers like us and the rest of the world happy.  And it's good for business as well.

yall are all retarded for getting in arguments like this. i have to support bevs and lis with their manager. he is obviously giving them oppurtunities that i wish could happen for me. You really took every word he said so literally. when he said that its not something everyone can do, he was trying to show how special the people who got there were. he never said that some people aren't capable of ever doing it. also freestyle is a bi-product of football whether you like it or not. just think about it, you use a football, and most of yall started football first. you began freestyling through football, and maybe decided that you had more interest in freestyle.  trying to remove football from the term "football freestyle" is probably the dumbest thing you could do as a freestyler.  if you disagree, i recommend you no longer consider yourself a freestyler, but instead consider yourself a juggler. this is your only choice, because the only other option you can go with is to be a circus act juggler.

Then how about the use of hands? If it is FOOTBALL freestyle, then we shouldn't use hands, and that's really isn't true for the most cases.
And I started freestyle first lol. xD Still sucks at football until now.

well i can't disagree with god, but the rest of you i can. the use of hands: throw-ins and goalkeeping maybe?  just think of it this way, if football never existed, probably none of us would be freestying at least in the same way. maybe it would look more like basketball. also more than 90% of freestyle tricks are football based meaning you use parts of the body used in football.

p.s.

whatever khoa said is 100% correct, and i totally agree. his word cannot be wrong, so disregard anything that i said that may not be in agreeance with the great one.

The best way to make freestyle bigger is by promotions, deals and sponsorships, not by removing the football from freestyle

can you tell me what doing sitdowns, or uppers, or a 30-trick combo has to do with normal football?
look at Séan, world champion freestyler... are you telling me that is a bi-product of football? Séan has gotten very successfull and he does a lot of LPs and he has an interview on Eurosport next week... i will watch it, and i guarantee you 100% he will explain that freestyle is completely non-related to football..

well i can't disagree with god, but the rest of you i can. the use of hands: throw-ins and goalkeeping maybe?

thats completely stupid

yes, but i have seen and heard Steve Elias interviews and he clearly explains that freestyle is an art, and a means of expressing yourself with a football... he also says that anybody can be a freestyler if they practise hard enough, which is the correct message we need to give.. Furthermore he has been freestyling himself for ages so he deserves respect for that

work all you want, i dont care how much work managers and agents spend on freestyle.

with a atidude like "its not for everyone" then you are someone i will never suport in any ways.

you should work with tennis or golf, thats for the rich people, and not for everyone.

Freestyle for me is more then money, its a lifestyle!

Freestyle for me is guys like Abdullah, Palle, Leiki, Sean... Not wanna be football players that wasnt good enough for the game.

as a person i have nothing against this guy, i dont know him at all. and bevs and the rest of you australlian guys dont have to get so mad...
sure you are happy, you are promoted in your contrie, and probably get jobs... but dont tell us in Europe what freestyle is about!

WORLD FINAL SHOULD BE IN AMSTERDAM, Mekka of freestyle. Not south africa like a silly warm up for the worldcup in football.

what the hell anders? when did i try to tell you what freestyle is about? i never made any comment on that argument whatsoever... the only reason i made a post in this topic was because you and dan were calling a guy who has done an awful lot for me and for freestyle in australia  a "retard". Thats all i got mad about and dont tell me to do otherwise because i think thats something worth getting mad about.

I never said i support what paul said, i just thought u should give him a break and not just jump to the conclusion that he is a retard because of one 20 second interview that he probably didnt prepare for at all. I totally agree that freestyle is for everyone and i HATE it when people just assume we are washed up footballers.

And as for that "us in europe" crap, whats that shit about? your talking asif u guys are the only real freestylers and us over here are something else. We are ALL freestylers, we ALL have the same goal of making freestyle big.

thats great that hes promoting it... maybe one of you australian freestylers can explain to him that its not a bi-product of football, and that ANYONE can be a great freestyler, and you dont need to be a skillfull player at all...
Or is that your opinion as well?

It is a bi product. look at how it was created. if football was not created. freestyle football wouldn't have been. common sense people.

work all you want, i dont care how much work managers and agents spend on freestyle.

with a atidude like "its not for everyone" then you are someone i will never suport in any ways.

you should work with tennis or golf, thats for the rich people, and not for everyone.

Freestyle for me is more then money, its a lifestyle!

Freestyle for me is guys like Abdullah, Palle, Leiki, Sean... Not wanna be football players that wasnt good enough for the game.

as a person i have nothing against this guy, i dont know him at all. and bevs and the rest of you australlian guys dont have to get so mad...

i dont mean we are the real freestylers. Sorry if it came out like that. Everyone can have their own opinion about freestyle. But you should be verry carefull making statments that may it seem like your word is the real deal... cause its 1000 other opinions.

this was most about freestyle noting beeing for everyone. that made me abit angry.

I feel the hate of my sport alot. and that why i have strong feelings about this. cause norway is like many other contries, Just about football...

I dont think anyone here ment that your friend/manager/agent is a retard hehe... it was just the statement he made.

take care

peace and respect!

in your first post you said "it will always be a BI product of football when its retards like this Paul who organize things..."

and i dont believe i made any statement saying my world is the "real deal"...

however, i can understand why what paul said would have annoyed you and im sure he now understands your point of view, i know he will take it on board and his next interview will be different.

anyway, its now time to move on...

In my opinion the connection between freestyle and football can be used by freestylers to make our sport more popular.
Football is the biggest sport, and specially here in europe there can be a lot of interest in our sport, so i have to aggree with this:
trying to remove football from the term "football freestyle" is probably the dumbest thing you could do as a freestyler.

don't take it personal. I understand you. But, don't you find it a bit strange to say that, when on your last video, you freestyle with a football ball and football shoes?
I guess it will be hard to remove this football thing.

dan, i'm sorry, but you are 100% wrong. all freestyle styles, except maybe the use of hands, were originally used to train for football. if you don't believe me, just watch any warm up for a professional football match. you will see people juggling the ball with lower and upper body. its less likely, but you may even see someone do something sitting down. this was the beginning of freestyle.  all i am saying is that separating football from freestyle is a really stupid move. it removes the history of the sport, and hurts is you in the possible business of the sport since most performances people get are for some football related event.  another example is that futsal and beach soccer are completely different sports than football. they are played in an extremely different way. one player from each sport, isn't always good at the others just as in freestyle.  they haven't replaced football from its background, so freestyle shouldn't either. dan, i respect you as a freestyler, but if you continue to say football has nothing to do with it, you need to consider yourself a juggler instead.

Only because football freestyle has evolved doesn't mean it's not a bi-product of football anymore. Juggling has been practised within football for ages to gain more control over the ball, and then people started making simple tricks and from that freestyle football was built.

Ground moves, lower- and upper style must have been the first styles to emerge and both of them has a strong connection to football when looking at the basic tricks.

The term "bi-product", DOES NOT mean "exactly the same", hence amatw tatw doesn't necessarily has to be performed in football for football freestyle to be a bi-product of regular football.

As with every sport, or anything else for that matter, only a handful of people involved in the activity will be able to do the most tough stuffs. So a correction would go something like: "Everybody can freestyle, but only some will be able to come this far".

Ok i see your point, but about the business thing... I care more about freestyling for fun than getting money, although obviously its great to get some LP's//
about the last line, i think i might just consider myself a freestyler instead of a football freestyler... juggling is one of the words i hate when people talk about freestyle.. juggling makes it sound so "failed-footballer"-ish....

oh well... okey freestyle originated from football.. but right now, it doesnt have to much to do with football once you pass a certain level..
ask any kid who can do a neckstall and he will say its football-related...
go ask someone who trains hardcore uppers, lowers, or sitdowns and they will tell you that for them, it has nothing to do with football, which is my situation..
However its also a benefit to us that people are ignorant to freestyle... If you go busking, anyone who loves football will immediately stop so it can be a good thing, but we need to work to remove the thought that "Cristiano Ronaldo is the best freestyler in the world"
