Two Sparks Push Chelsea Through
Chelsea 2 vs Fenerbahce 0 Chelsea advances with a 3-2 aggregate score after having lost the away leg in Turkey. Chelsea were poised for redemption, using Stamford Bridge as its aide. Meanwhile, due to a 79th minute strike by Brazilian forward David during the away leg, Fenerbahce fans turned out in numbers to see the surprise package of this season's Champions League attempt to provide the shock of ages. The game could not have started any worse for the Turkish team, as only 3 minutes in, Michael Ballack put things back in order after a powerful header. The affair remained a spirited contest seemingly heading for extra time until late into the game Frank Lampard put the affair beyond doubt after a great pass by Essien. Noteworthy, was the performance of Michael Essien who drove the Blues on into the semifinals of the Champion's League for the third time in four years. |
